2017 U.S. Nationals Championship Ladies SP

Made it here! It's too early to be nervous for Gracie, so I can fully enjoy the early groups  Go Tessa! :cheer:

Franchesca Chiera: Fine 3F+2T with good speed going into it. Turn out of 3Lz, could be slightly underrotated. Competent spins throughout. She has a lot of movements and transitions but doesn't have a lot of emphasis on any particular move - a bit muddy. Not a lot of her performance was well-timed to the music.

Liked Francesca's closing combo spin - positions we don't see very often, very fast and well-centered. That eyeliner though.

Francesca Chiera is one of those skaters that I really wish could skate for another country. She's so enjoyable to watch and I'd love to see her more.

This is a serious question. Why do skaters skate with the half covered boots? While I think it's ugly and doesn't do the job, I see why skaters do the fully covered boots in the attempt of a full line. The half covered boots look so sloppy and lazy.

It started in Europe and finally caught on here with the younger skaters. I call it the Medvedeva effect.

I agree, I think it makes them look they're wearing Hi-Top Reebok's like they used to wear in the 80's. The quickest way to spoil a nice leg line is to do that half and half look.

Caroline's score would have had her in second last year. It will be very interesting to see if the big guns bring it tonight (they didn't last year, save for Polina).

I think it's supposed to helpextend the line without making the foot look too bulky in that bit skate. Especially if the skater has veeeeery thin legs like Evgenia

Personal preference for the skater. Many skaters don't like wearing footed tights. The ones that go slightly over the boots are honestly easier to put on and adjust than the ones that totally cover the boots.
