Ouch I am more heartbroken for Tessa Hong than I am for Gracie. But I hope she has a great career ahead.
I know the odds aren't that likely but Bell can still medal here if any of top three bombs.

Backloading is fine if the front half has great choreography. This program did not.

However, she's 14. She is so impressive and I cannot wait for her to be even better next year!

I really really don't want to get on the "Gracie needs a coaching change" band wagon but girl needs a change. She also seems like she needs a more nurturing coach.

Oh I definitely think so 100%. Frank is great and did a great job of getting her to look like she could be an Olympic medalist, and she needed that in 2014, but I don't think he is the best fit for her now. I don't think he's the nurturing type of coach. I could be wrong, but it just seems like he works best with the skaters who are workhorses - they just come in and do the job and don't need a lot of motivation. They are ready to do the workload he has for them. But Gracie has a mental block right now and needs some mentoring to overcome it. I think she needs a more sympathetic coaching situation.

I just don't understand how Gracie can say that she thinks she's the best in the U.S. and that no one can stop her but herself, but then she gets on the ice with seemingly zero confidence. She's still in a funk over Worlds and I wish she would have skipped this season if it was still bothering her so badly. I hope she will take the rest of this season to mentally regroup and focus on what she wants for next season. Sad to see her so down and out of it.

Politicking. US skaters always seem forced to assert themselves to the media as if that'll convince the right people that they're contenders and deserve support. Idk.

On the one hand, that's definitely not the performance Tessa wanted (or that I wanted for her )... But it's good to see her fighting at the end, and I hope she knows that she's done a lot to be proud of at this nationals and that it'll help her push through the disappointment.

Actually, new thought: send Gracie to work with whoever coaches Caroline. Get those two in a rink together training every day and a little bit of Caroline's determination and fierceness will rub off, right?

Plus, Caroline's coach evidently knows how to get someone believing in themselves.
