Jason Brown

:cheer:

You were the first person I thought of when I saw that he had made the team. :)

I'm so happy for and so proud of Jason. In spite of his injury he came back and proved on the ice that he has the heart and soul of a champion and earned his place on the team. I'm also happy Jason and Grant were named to the 4CC team and can continue their bromance.

Aww you're too sweet!! :)

He really exceeded all expectations today. He is a champion through and through :yes2:

A shame about the last combo, but today's skate proved to me again that Jason is a reliable skater who can be counted on to give his best.

So happy about Jason. He and Nathan will surely get us our 3 spots. What an ending to the men's. I'm exhausted. I feel like I skated! Jason is a warrior! So proud of him.

I was watching through my fingers, and then short of breath waiting for the Worlds' decision. My heart can't take much more of this:laugh:

@TMC, I'm so happy for you, and we will depend on you for *all* the info.:agree:

Yaaassss, Jason!:gclap:

I will set up a private Youtube account and upload practice videos just for y'all!!!

ETA: Speaking of videos, did you see this one? It's a periscope video of his FS and it's super cool because it's filmed from the middle of the audience. The audience reactions are soooo amazing - I could watch the part with the spiral a million times. https://www.periscope.tv/w/1gqxvZaOgWBxB

I can imagine the conversation:

"Jason, there's no way you could make that spiral any prettier than it already is"
"Here, hold my walking boot!"

Count me in as being thrilled that Jason made the team! If I was on the committee and given all of the
facts I would have made the same decision. This does not take away the fact that Vincent deserved his
Silver Medal but there are to many "buts".

Great periscope video! It does indeed capture the reactions / mood of the audience. It felt as if we were with him every step of the way. Such an emotional performance. We were all biting our nails a bit just knowing about his injury.

And I would like to know who gave him this wonderful bear that was practically bigger than him! https://pic.twitter.com/rkRj8M3OFG

I get goosebumps every time I see that spiral -- so beautiful and so perfectly choreographed to spotlight the moment the full orchestral music kicks in.

There's a video of it on youtube. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v9q_1WUjgQ

Jason is such a sweetheart and so giving to his fans!

I thought it was really funny that before the World Team announcement, Tanith asked the other three Ice Desk hosts who they thought should go - Vincent or Jason. Both guys said Vincent because he "earned" it and has quads, and both women said Jason. Tanith explained her logic very rationally, comparing season best scores, etc. - and I agreed! But I wondered if the different male-female opinions were just a coincidence, and that made me really curious to know the composition of the selection committee!

Anyway, I am very happy for Jason and really thrilled that we'll get to see that gorgeous free skate twice more this season. And since he told Lynn Rutherford that before his injury he was landing 4T/4S in practice, I'm excited to see them once he's finally healthy.

I also have to admit I'm extremely curious about his programs for next year. I remember Rohene saying at one point that they would start working on them in December to give them plenty of time to marinate, but with the injury and the fact Rohene did a lot of shows last month, not sure they did. Anyway, can't wait to see what they come up with! All I hope is that Rohene realizes how much better people are responding to Jason's streamlined, more mature looks / choreo this season and doesn't revert to cutesy.

So finally, am I the only one who prefers the white shirt in the SP? The new one is very flattering at rest, but it doesn't seem to move well with him. Thoughts?

And speaking of thoughts, Arriba what were yours seeing the men live?

I like the new costume, namely because it contrasted his FS costume. My husband joked that his SP costume made him look like a waiter during lunch at a mid-grade restaurant while the FS costume was more of him in a expensive hipster bartender after hours.

I think the FS costume still works with that music, but I feel like collectively Jason almost went too simple. So it's nice he had a more elaborate costume. I thought the Grey represented the gloomy nature of the song nicely.

So, every Nationals for the past 3, my friend Jeff has taken a picture of Jason holding up a sign that says "I am (my name)'s greatest fan!" They're so adorable. This year the sign said "I am still (my name)'s greatest fan!" This year Jeff talked to Rohene and said he wanted to get Jason something for being so accomodating and Rohene suggested a Kansas City t-shirt. jeff said when he gave it to Jason you would have thought he had given him a new Ferrari. He said Jason is one of the most gracious young men he's ever met - always has time for everybody and is always smiling. Just thought folks would like to hear about that!

The first time I actually met Jason was in 2014 at a practice session in Boston. I just wanted to shake his hand and tell him how much I enjoy his skating and that no one since Kurt Browning has affected me that way. He was actually embarassed. It was quite cute. Asked if I could shake his hand and instead he gave me a big hug.

I wish only good things for Jason, a speedy recovery from the leg injury, and for people to stop cracking on him because he doesn't have a quad. I think he has the best presentation of any man in the US right now and that should count for something.

A few thoughts on seeing the men's live:
Well, we were all so "with" Jason, it felt like we would breathe when he would breathe, etc. The air was absolutely electric when he was on the ice. I can't even put it into words. Plus with most of us knowing that he was dealing with an injury, it just heightened the angst! :)

I am devastated for Max. I've always liked him so much. Sometimes it's just not your night, and it really wasn't his night...It's great to see Vincent and realize we have a bright future. Same with Tomoki Hiwatashi - I've enjoyed following him because he's from the Chicago area...I'm blaming Sean Rabbitt that I've been going around all day humming Mambo Italiano. Dang! Like Jackie Wong said, now THAT is how you sell a program!....Really enjoyed Alexander Johnson, Andrew Torgashev, and Scott Dyer...And what can I say that hasn't already been said about Nathan. Of course his tech was absolutely insane, and I honestly lost count of how many quads he did and wasn't sure if it was 4 or 5 by the time he got to the end. Once his ballet training kicks in and he works more on his artistry -- holy guacamole!!!

I enjoy watching You Tubes and skating on TV, but there is nothing like seeing it live! Wow!...A highlight of the weekend for me was attending the breakfast that was put on by Friends of Figure Skating. I just became a member, and there was a breakfast on Sun. from 10 am - 12 pm. Many skaters were in attendance. Unfortunately the men couldn't be there because their competition started at 1 pm. It was really fun to meet a lot of them, take photos, chat with them, offer encouragement and/or congratulations, etc.

KC was a great host. I think they should do Worlds there!

I like the new costume much better too! but I had just finished my coloring page of him! If only I had waited.
I'm happy he's on the Worlds team, but in my mind, him being chosen made the most sense so I was pretty confident he would get it. I'm actually puzzled that people think it's a controversial choice at all.

You could always make another one. ;) I mean Yuzu will still have more, ha! I want a GS package deal discount for all your pages.

Diverting from the top 2 (or top 3) at Nationals is still a pretty new thing -- even if other countries do it, so I can see why people think it's a controversial choice. At least Ashley had a bunch of GPF medals.

Is it the same KC shirt he ended up wearing for the Gala? I noticed he had a KC shirt when I looked at some Gala photos from USA Today.

Heheh, Yes, of course! About team selection I guess I'm more used to it from Japan team selection and Russia, where the Junior ladies so often make the National podium.

I'll follow up with you later for the discount. ;)

Yeah, but I think those scenarios are different cause usually the juniors are too young to go to Worlds and Vincent wasn't.

TBH, I'm sort of an old lady and are of the send the top 2/3 and let the chips fall where they may. Saves consternation. I understand the logic of not basing it solely on Nationals, but I feel like it should be used on a some what rare basis, but hey what do I know? ;)

That said, I'm happy Jason made his case and going to Worlds on the other hand.

Well, they sent Max to Worlds in 2014 even though Jason was age-eligible, so it's not unprecedented even in the US. And in contrast to all the angst regarding Mirai, sending Max didn't stir up much controversy, even though Jason gave a stellar performance at Nats.

I'm partial - of course - but I honestly think Jason has a better chance of scoring in the top 10 than Vincent. Right now Vincent is a jumping bean with little or no personality on the ice. His posture is poor and he lacks musicality. BUT - he has the jumps. I think going to Jr. Worlds will give him an extra added year to mature for Seniors next year.

Tavi - you have a Siamese! :luv17: (I have a male Blue Point and a female Lynx Point)
