Evgenia Medvedeva

She was gorgeous. But is it only me of Zhenya looked really tired.

I'm happy she's trying different 3-3-3 combinations. Maybe she'll master one soon and will show it next season

I didn't expect any different from her. Her ability to deliver under so much pressure is astounding. Good luck in the FS, Zhenya! :hap93:

The video feeds from Ostrava have some very harsh sharpening applied. There are bright "haloes" around areas of high contrast (eg. black costumes against ice), which is a classic symptom of oversharpening in videos or photos.

This exaggerates any lines or wrinkles, creates digital "artifacts", and makes the tiniest bump or imperfection in skin or makeup into something much worse than it really is. I think this may have contributed to her "tired" appearance...

It was because of her make up & video sharpening :agree:

Her skin w/o thick make-up is still fair.

Evgenia says she would like to try 4 salchow, but in the end of the season.
About Zagitova. They skate together (at the same time). Evgenia says she likes a "healthy" rivalry, the relations in the group are good, they are friends.

After GP (in this interview: http://www.sovsport.ru/gazeta/article-item/936346) Averbukh was saying, that on GP Evgenia skated her programs with 80% of that strength which is expected. He explained, that Evgenia was ill not once, when they prepared the programs, that she had small injuries... Averbukh expected a better speed, more confident step sequence.

interview after SP, Europeans 2017 (Match TV)

Q: Everybody expect not only awesome skating from you, but also a world record. What about you?
E: I would like to beat my record, but I did a little bit less than it was needed. Yet I am satisfied with my scores, the scores are high. I will work in the FP.
Q: Are the scores not enough high because of the judges, or something was done not 100% well?
E: There are always some things, which are done not 100% well. I think today I didn't get higher scores because of GOE.
Q: Why? Were you nervous? We saw a little mistake, when you were training. Usually you don't have mistakes.
E: I wouldn't call that a mistake. Such things happen.
Q: You showed you tongue after that. To whom?
E: To myself. I shouldn't become relaxed too early.
Q: Was it needed, did this small mistake on the training help you to concentrate on the competition?
E: Yes. Sometimes mistakes help, and you understand why did you do that mistake. For example, If you were not enough concentrated, on the competition you control yourself better. I think that is why trainings are needed: to check oneself and to fix weaknesses.

Later Evgenia is asked whether she saw Kostner skating, Evgenia answers she never watches even on TV (before her own skating), even closes her ears, though she would like to learn something from Kostner and to show what she (Evgenia) can do.

:agree: Great girl!! And her English is so good for her age too. Congrats for another win!

Evgenia is fearless, and bold, and if she's "showing off" - so WHAT? The ladies' discipline needs some excitement, for once. I could hardly keep my eyes open before the last group here.

I don't see anything wrong with arrogance in sport if you have the ability to back it up :agree:

*cackle* I laughed a lot at the last combo.

It's smart. It's not just showing off, it's psychological intimidation. "Hey, look how not tired I am, I'm just going to do another combo FOR FUN!". And it's great. I think it's great. It sends subconscious messages to the judges - still strong at the end of 4 minutes - and to her competitors - you can do what you like but I can just throw stuff in like this.

Now, just to get her away from Averbukh...

Not now, my friend. Do you remember Yulia's masterpiece? I no doubt that Iliya will prepare something special for Evgenia in Olympic season. And then yes, after Olympics, Evgenia should try to work with another choreographs. :)

It is mind games. And she rocks at it.

Plus if she were anyone else, everyone would be falling all over themselves to praise her. I've got to :rolleye:

You mean Yulia's gimmick-fest? That's why I want her away from him. Give her to someone who can create an actual masterpiece, not Averbukh's arrogant, self-serving dross.
