Congrats to Lena on winning gold!!

I know she made mistakes and wasn't happy about them, but still, it's nice to go home with a medal!

It must be nice for Lena to be done with the competition so early (ladies is not usually the first to finish). Now she can relax and tour Almaty or watch some of the other sports. :agree:

GoogleTranslate:
"I'm disappointed with the way skated the long program - admitted Radionova -. Of course, I should have skated clean, but unfortunately, I do not know why it happened. All jumping when I flew, it was light..."
"The beginning of the program was very good - did a triple-triple combination, but then something happened. I need to analyze all this... I have attached great importance to this competition, and responsibly prepared for it, and it is a pity that I was not able to show here, what I have done."
I think Lena is saying that her jumps were in good shape before she left for Almaty. And it does seem like her 3Lz is the best it has been since the 2014-15 season. She was constantly having rough landings on the lutz, but they looked quite clean at the Universiade. I'm not surprised she's still struggling with the loop though--that one seems to rely a lot on the correct timing, and that's tough to master when she's still getting used to her body.
Lena also mentions that she hopes she has a chance to go to Worlds, and that she might participate in some more domestic competitions.
I'm kinda doubtful that the Russian Fed will send her instead of Masha unless she has two amazing performances at an upcoming competition.
Even then, I think Buyanova has the clout to convince the Fed to send Masha over Lena. :dev2: I think she would be pissed if she had no skaters going to Worlds while Goncharenko has two...
Like Seruleane, I do think it would be better for Lena to train extra hard instead of go to Worlds, but I worry that 1) Lena will lose motivation to train if she doesn't go to Worlds and feels like she won't have a chance to make the Olympic team, and 2) the judges will see her as a second-tier skater if she's not among the "top 3" going to Worlds. Her PCS were already lower than in her GP events... :noshake:
However, I hope that the
experience of going to Universiade--of mingling with the other Russian athletes from different sports and walking in the opening ceremony--will make Lena REALLY want to go to the Olympics and therefore willing to work very hard.
Apparently in the press conference, Inna "said with a smile, that Lena is very hard-working, and has a lot of her own ideas, but it all depends on her mood: there is sun, there are clouds."
