Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

LGC is so far from what I usually enjoy in music, but his performance is electrifying. Somehow that was the program that everyone had doubts about (including me), and no one could quite point out what that X-factor should be until he just showed us XD

Oh, I actually had no doubts about LGC from the beginning... I saw it, loved it, jumped around my room like crazy and told all my friends they will love it. Because that is exactly the kind of music that I love, and Rockstar Yuzu is one of my favorite Yuzus
But yeah, it was a really, really big risk. I cannot stress enough how much I respect Yuzu for taking risks like that while being on top. Most skaters who have found success and are on top stick to their guns, and do what they know they can deliver. And with all the attention on them and everyone 'chasing' them, it is understandable. It makes it even more admirable when someone doesn't do that

No doubts here either. LGC was a hit for me since the first hints of it in September. I always knew he had an inner rock star wanting to come out, lol. It was a no brainer for me.

I love the idea of 2 new programs for next year. The more we get from him the better, but everyone knows that plans can, and often do, change. It is probably more important that the long program be changed, and that has often been the case over the years in figure skating. I would guess, though, that the sp layout would be the same as it has been since the final Chopin edition. Comfort and familiarity are a big deal on a stage where even seasoned competitors can find themselves dealing with Olympic jitters.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone else who basically can't watch his Sochi FP performance? I watched it exactly once, and never again. LMFAO It's not a regretful or emotionally reaction by any means, I just cringe when it appears at my recommendations for no reason whatsoever. All of his other less successful performances I can watch just fine, I mean even Worlds 2013, NDP, my less favourite program of his, where he is basically crawling, I lowkey cringe through all of it but finish it just fine. I just think it's funny that I have such a grudge against this particular performance

Once it came out that he was actually injured and really in pain at Worlds 2016, I couldn't go back and watch the LP ever again D: But I watch and rewatch Requiem, Worlds edition, obsessively.

I was like that with the 2014 Sochi LP as well for quite some time, but am now able to watch it, particularly the BBC version with Robin Cousins and Sue Barker who are much kinder in their commentary.

I watched 2016 Worlds LP in live stream and downloaded all of the different videos of it in order to keep my collection complete, but have never been able to watch any of them.

I watch COC 2014 and marvel at his determination.

I'm warming up to his sochi fs just recently, and i watch his COC 2014 fs when i feel masochist (and his entire 2015/2015 season), and i can count watching world 2013 NDP and 2016 world seimei in one hand lol. In the contrary, i watch World 2012 daily, over and over

I imagined that he would skate LGC and H&L for olympic season, because LGC practically PW 2.0 lol and H&L is story of his skating life. Is it nice to skate your life story and win the olympic? (amen). But i can't wait what program he will skate for olympic season

Yes. Il Volo's agent is smart he knows how popular Yuzuru is in Japan and even Plushenko, too. The Il Volo was very proud when Plushenko skated to the Grande Amore number at the end of 2015. They tweeted about it.

One thing I can't watch is Boston's FS. No way.

I only got into PW at the GPF and truly at Sochi but it was never my favorite thing. I actually thought I'd end up with LGC somewhere there in the end, liking it but not adoring it, am pretty sure I even wrote that here. Oops, had to eat my own words as it is so fab, but I think it really helps he's matured quite a bit by the time he tried it. He could not have pulled this off at Sochi time.

I’ve just googled myself and this is what I’ve found, it seems Shin Amano was still coaching at TCC in Nov. 2016.

I was unaware Japanese ISU Technical specialist Shin Amano developed his careere as a coach and choreographer in Canada simultaneously . I’ve read he was at Granite Club in Toronto where he coached P.Chan breefly about 10 years ago, then I've read he switched to TCC some years ago..

The skating world never fails to amaze me!

I actually like Parisienne Walkways more... but that might be because it's the first program of yuzu's that I saw... I absolutely LOVR HL though. It's so perfectly beautiful and emotional and the music and choreo agave so much musicality and I feel like it's a message that has himself and all he's learned.

I absolutely love LGC- even more than PW- and I'm not even that much of a fan of older songs. It's probably because I'm a sucker for vocals and upbeat stuff. My favourite part is when he's spinning and he moves his arms to the beat like a drum.

Tbh I love both of his programs for this season and I LOVE his H&L costume it's so beautiful and I love the music

Why do you think it's a surprise that fans love LGC so much?
I love PW too but Let's Go Crazy, as a program itself and they way Yuzuru skates to it is much more mature than PW, which is of understandable because he improved and matured a lot since 2014.
I find LGC exciting and unique, and a very difficult program to sell to the audience. I don't think that even Yuzuru could have pulled it off a couple of seasons ago. But he keeps improving and has new challenges every season which is a huge risk, especially from someone who is the defending Olympic champion. I have never seen someone before who was as successful as him but still tried new artistic directions while at the same time constantly improved the technique too.

I actually didn't like LGC at first, but I have to say it grew on me a lot :luv17: I especially like the version at GPF because his spins there were so beautiful. Like the first time I watched it, I was like "wow did his spins get even better!?" And I could tell he was really feeling it and having fun, so I couldn't help it. You gotta love the program if Yuzu loves it too.

On another note, I absolutely can't watch his worlds 2016 FS. I actually never watched it all the way through. I tried once or twice, but I only watched to the halfway point or so it's just so hard to watch it when I know he's in so much pain.
I watched COC 2014 once full-through, and that was the only time I saw it. Every time I see that first phantom outfit I just wanna wrap him in a blanket and make him rest.
Anyway, these competitions helped to shape Yuzu into who he is today. He's matured a lot, I think. And that means he can make better decisions, and communicate with his team better. Hopefully he goes into every season hereafter(especially next season) in top condition!

I was at Boston and now I can barely recall what I saw of Yuzu's lp. Never went back to watch anything from Boston. I had watched his COC lp for many times but Boston, I just cant.
