Alexander Petrov

So, mission accomplished? As you say, that was never in doubt - barring some sort of freak accident of some kind.

I'm glad he went for the quad - and seeing he had UR+fall before, and now "only" UR, I think this can be seen as progress. Maybe next time... ?:) (And I won't complete that sentence for fear of jinxing.)

ETA - Or wait... he had actually a downgraded quad before, did he not? So the rotation was better as well here?

Sasha "drew" (he's not even there yet, he's still flying home from Sofia) #3 in the starting order for the Russian Cup Final SP.

Yeah!!

Woohoo! What a cool suprise to come home to! So proud of you, Sasha! These have been two tough & tiring weeks - I hope he can grit it out in the free too. Slay, Sasha, slay!

All those people who said Sasha wld never land a clean quad can go and eat crow now!!!

He won silver btw. 2GPs for next season absolutely secured.

Mishin said Sasha will try 4S and 4F next. I don't know what happened to the 4Lo but there you go.

Sasha basically can do a UR/downgraded 4Lz. He can "land" it standing up. I'm not sure whether he would be able to land it fully-rotated. But fully-rotated 4F is quite possible, eventually.

I'm so happy! I didn't want to say, because I didn't want to jinx him - but I wasn't worried about the free skate. After having seen the short, I just felt this... sense of security from him. As an accumulation built up from his previous competitions - this solidity to his skating. Even if he'd make a mistake, I didn't think he'd let it snowball into a disaster.

I didn't expect the clean quad - not so soon, but I knew it was coming.

Yay, Sasha!

You know what. I've been saying for some time that most of his struggles with the quad are mental.
Did you notice something different about his layout here and at Junior Nationals? Yes, they finally changed the position/location of the quad and the lutz combo in the SP.
Some skaters have problems executing certain jumps in certain corners of the rink. And it's also possible that he generates marginally more speed when he moves to the right side of the rink. But I think the mental factor is the most decisive. I'm not sure why they took so long to make the change, kind of like how long they took to finally make him learn the "butt spin".
