This "black-lilac chicken" isn't that bad... Clearly ugly duckling and precursor to the majestic notte stellata (<----- see those legs. those legs.)! I have a soft spot for it, especially under gala lights.

There's rumours going around that if you say 'Xylitol' in front of the mirror three times, Yuzuru will appear singing this song, except that he's bald and will terrorize your and your descendants' dreams for 330 years. Some fans still say that this is better than never seeing him live.

Ok, I also want take a moment to talk about japanese figure skating news because, my god, isn't it great. There's not only +10 min in several channels of it, but they also make competitions sound like it's a life or death battle when it's freaking 4CC. Like, these ones and more.

Most of them are so dramatic, it's my everything. Even after years I'll never get tired of it. The technnical analysis are also great.

Hanyu is one of the more emotional available mens skater right now (I hope that won't change when he gets older), there's compassion and venerability that shows up on his Romeo and Juliet programs which I love. He clearly feels the music, the mood changes and he is clear in what he is trying to express in tuned with the many variations of music beyond merely executing the required elements. Overall, very good intrinsic understanding of musicality, movement and performing to the audience (although the latter could be improved upon further with greater maturity).

The thing I appreciate the most is Hanyu hardly ever dumb down his program in an almost naive and optimistic way. Given the type of crazy difficult content he has, his personal situations (asthma and stamina issues) he appears to be refreshingly uncalculated and his natural demeanour is going for broke 100% of the time. And if he is on fire, you might get 110% performance out of him as if is the last performance he will ever give.

He rarely ever hesitate before his big elements, and I am always surprised to see how a major fall would really appear to shook him up as if he couldn't believe it (and refuse to believe it), only to find him coming back with an even bigger jump to prove and reassures himself. May be there's some Samurai spirit in this young one!

Amazing talent aside, it makes him an exciting and somewhat unpredictable skater to root for because the chances are, with these amount of crazy difficulties he want to include his programs at his age (with all his asthma and stamina issues) the chances of him going clean is slim, yet you know he is always going for his very best instead of following some sort of calculated risks like the older skaters tends to do. (Especially amongst the ladies field right now)

His most loyal defender, bouncer, fluffer, wingman, consummate protector, all rolled in one. Comrade in arms, defender of the quad salcow, a new fav animal friend to the Winniverse.

The naysayers just have to face the fact Pooh is here to stay. A Pooh bear is a friend for life!! The Pooh will likely to out last all your GS accounts! It will outlast Hanyu's coaching relationships! It is likely to outlast Hanyu's romantic adventures/troubles and even bromance with Javi and Nam. It may even outlast his incredible costume phases! Pooh will be right there @ Hanyu's first driving test, at his graduation, at each of his birthdays, at Hanyu's wedding, be there at his children Christening, @ his bed side in the hostpitals when he is sick, and certainly will be there when he receive his 2nd Olympic medal. Hell and high water, Snow Storm and Tsunami lightening be d*mned, you can count on the Pooh!

Equality for Pooh!!

N: It's second place, but it was fruitful second place! You saw the recovery in the free, right? The awesomeness?! He did the quads, and then changed the layout! Right before the 4T2T, he did a 3A and then right at the very end again he did another 3A! It's... it's an unprecedented recovery!
(That kind of recovery, only the legend...)
N cuts in: Only the legend can do it! On top of that, how calmly he dealt with it, all the while he's skating! Oh the awesomeness! But Nathan, another quadster, blocked him and he ended up in second place. The regret he feels has to be huge! But regret is a great motivator for Hanyu! So we can look forward to that regret, combined with confidence from having achieved that amazing recovery, to put him in a very good mindset for Worlds.
(That's why you said it was a fruitful second.)
N: That's right! Of course he would have wanted to win, but I think it was an extremely fruitful second place.

Guys, i think i have a special power: I've converted so far four people to Hanyuism!!
The most recent was today...
I have my dance teacher on fb, and she told me today in class :
"I've seen that skater on my feed so many times thanks to you, that i am starting to like him too. I saw you were up very late and i figured out he was competing. Then i started researching a bit about him..." Cue my teacher opening her eyes a lot "He is so graceful, that extension he has... He surely had ballet lessons since he was a kid, right?" I told her that iirc, he didn't (i read somewhere that he only had lessons for a month before giving it up?) and she said "His extension is beautiful, the way he bends his knees when he lands... The airy quality gliding on the ice... This kid is overflowing with talent, i was in awe watching him. He is amazing, i can't believe someone like him exists"

I spent the whole class smiling, it warms my heart when someone appreciates him as a skater. Additionally, she loved his swan and Hope&Legacy costumes and declared that he is physically very beautiful :biggrin:
And no, i am not actively trying to convert people haha.
One of my friends asked me to show her one of his programs the day i went to skate (i sent her NHK Seimei) and she declared that he must be a wizard.
The other was curious about him because he seemed too cute and kind, and now she asks me when he is competing.
And another of my friends watched figure skating when she was little but stopped following it (so far she is the only person i've found here who actually knows the name of the jumps and she's better at me at identifying them lol) and...
She was converted thanks to the purple pants of sin

Hi everyone,

since I've been reading you daily for a few months now, I figured out it would be polite to thank you for how much you're helping for my mental health right now. I'm a new Yuzu fan - like many people I think, I've become curious of who that figure skater was, who kept popping on my tumblr dashboard this autumn, so I watched PW at Sochi... and from then on I've been obsessed by this incredible boy and watching his programs daily, drawing him too... It's funny how I was a figure skating fan when growing up, then totally forgot about the sport, and now being totally passionate again thanks to Yuzu :)
But one thing I hadn't experienced yet : the roller-coaster of emotion. I kept reading left and right that being a Yuzu fan was pretty intense but until 4CC I hadn't experienced it live - but omg last week has been both hell and heaven and now I'm emotionnally exhausted :)

But you help me cope with it, so thank you <3

Yuzuru seems to be a good gateway into skating, one of my friends was amused because slowly a bunch of her twitter friends started talking about Yuzuru around the same time I started actually attempting to follow the season (instead of just casually occasionally watching clips on youtube) and she started getting into skating.
It helps that a lot of people kinda remember him from last Olympics. He is so obviously good that even if you don't know a lot about skating it's clear to see why he gets the kinds of points he does, his programmes are beautiful and engaging rather than feeling like a tour of skating elements which can be a bit boring to watch, he skates with a lot of personality in his fun programmes like Let's Go Crazy, he's very pretty (which always helps), and his personality is endearing.

I like to post videos on my FB in hopes of converting my mum at the least. Consider it payback for the years she tried to get me interested in rugby league (which lacks sparkles and so cannot hold my attention and fails to appeal to me :P)

But really, some of you don't like the lila chicken? Shame on you! :shame: Don't you know the Chicken look is basically a required stage in a Japanese male skaters career? And look at some other examples - daddy Mura or Dice. Be glad Yuzu pulled it off like that :p

Although I will forever be a defender of chicken Mura. Forever.
