Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I actually think the team event will be a good opportunity for him to get his feet wet before the singles portion.


I was only interested in Team and Mens. I have everything except Team LP (and I have level B for team SP), but Mens SP and LP are level C for now. So I'm thinking if my friend in Korea lucks out in the lottery I shouldn't have too much problem getting rid of my C-level tix. They went like hot cakes for men on Cosport too. Very surprising. Meanwhile for Ice Dance they couldn't give them away . I would say men sold by far the fastest, then ladies (but it was a distant 2nd), then pairs, then ice dance. Team LP sold out pretty quickly too actually. I got a few gala tix being ambitious but I don't think I'll actually stay that long. Again, with Yuna Kim most likely going to that I don't think I'll have too much trouble getting rid of those either.

Well, if you want to get rid of your C-level tickets for Men's SP and LP, please please please I'll buy them from you :hpull:

My friend will be travelling from Poland to see Yuzu so she's not going the settle for not-so-good seats) but not actually buy tickets until the general sales open later this year :gaah:
I won't find out if we got anything in the lottery until May :sad46:

You shouldn't feel too bad because I heard they are allotting 80% of the tickets to Korean residents and then only 20% to foreigners. My friend only has 2 entries to your 5 in the lottery so you'll have better luck than I will. But here's hoping we all get what we want from this! *fingers crossed*. And really, looking at the venue it looks like even the C level isn't all that bad. It's only 12,000 in capacity and I think the Olympic energy will still count for something.

I think for 4CC I was in B type seats and possibly C type seats for the exhibition (2nd tier row E for the competition and row I for the exhibition), the view from both seats was perfectly fine, even though I have somewhat crappy eyesight. They seem to have designed the arena well to make sure the spectators can see the skating well from any seat, with the screen in the centre above the ice.

Guuys! Today i thanked my dance teacher from all of you for her observations regarding Yuzuru. And she had more interesting things to tell me

First, i brought up the "Yuzuru is not a balletic skater" thing. When i told her that there were some people saying that, she laughed really hard.
"Not balletic my... I don't agree with that at all. You see, dance teachers look for certain lines in the student that come with good technique. He has those lines. When he extends his leg backwards, he doesn't raise his butt, which would be bad technique." She actually demonstrated this to me. " His extension is very good and i could see the line forming. His upright spin is also perfectly straight."

Then i told her that some people criticized him for not pointing his toes and she glared at me
"With skates? Are they mad? There is no good reason to do it, that just sounds like someone trying to make people mad or just trying to say bad things about him, personally i didn't find anything bad with him!. Besides, when you put a foot forward it has to hit a certain position and he does it. There is nothing wrong with his footwork or his posture. And don't tell me, they criticize his arms too? There's a line that has to form from the arm to the wrist and his is textbook perfect. And his fingers look straight from the russian school of ballet, if they say there's something wrong with that they're either thinking of the american school of ballet, or are stuck in the 80's because there was a form used by some skaters during that time"

She proceeded to tell me that she followed figure skating until the whole Kerrigan drama happened and she lost interest, and that when she became a dance teacher that made FS stop being enjoyable too because she couldn't stand the bad technique of some skaters (she didn't say any names lol) "But watching your kid was a delight."

Loved hearing what your teacher said. I actually showed my friend Yuzu's swan program and she loved it. She was also a former ballet dancer and said he's very graceful and magical. She doesn't care about the jumps in figuring skating so while impressed with the jumps, she really liked his spins, arm movements, and lines. I've managed to convert her and another friend into Yuzu fans. Although the friend whom I went to Boston Worlds with ended up liking Shoma more but at least I have someone to talk to about figuring skating.

My contracts end in Feb, I was going to return to the UK Feb/March 2019 (for reasons). Guess it will depend on if Yuzu is still competing then But I guess it's not like there are no skating events in Europe for me

To be very honest, the only time I could ever care about toe pointing is at spirals and layback spins, both which sadly aren't even relevant in men's skating. Rarely the boots of a skater annoy me to the point that I notice throughout their skating other than specific positions. With Yuzuru, the only time I thought it was glaring was during NDP excuse my NDP anti showing k Also, Yuzuru improved his posture a lot . H&L in my opinion is miles ahead in execution, at least compared to his lol what choreography days, where he would be just too tired to hold most positions and I would scream internally with the cells of my whole being, since his practices were absolutely fine in that regard.

H&L for me is the antithesis of that phenomenon so I have a confession to make, this season I didn't even watch repeatedly most of his FS practices because it wasn't necessary, for me he's fulfilling most of my expectations of that program at the actual competition. I know some people thought that 4CC FS had the performance aspect toned down but surprisingly I don't share this sentiment, especially after watching 384829 fancams, this one being my favourite. I see some choreographic changes like after the 3F, but for me they received the attention they deserved.

Most of the times the other qualities of the skater, if they excel in performance/interpretation overwhelm me and 'toe pointing' becomes secondary and a detail that adds polish and aesthetic brownie points but will not determine whether I would consider this particular skater successful in his performance/execution or not. That's just how I operate, though I understand if some don't. That's why I never cared that much about it with Yuna, nor do I care with Yuzuru.

Idk, I think Yuzuru still has room to improve with his posture and toe point, although he has already improved a lot. It was like nails on a chalkboard for me with Yuna. Part of it is the brand of skates they choose though, some just look blocky.

I took ballet pretty seriously, and toe point isn't a true descriptor of what you need to do. A lot of it comes from flexing through your ankle and the arch of your foot, not scrunching up your toes. Those are supposed to stay relaxed. The calf muscle is engaged as well. I'm sure it's difficult in skates, but not impossible.

Notte Stellata is where he shows off his increased elegance for me.

^ when fancams are better quality than the official broadcast But that one's my favorite too, you could see him flash a smile (at Brian I think?) after 4T2T. The other one I like is from Albina. It's shot from a little higher up, and I'm surprised at just how good it all looks from up top.
