When you train under Eteri, your surname is Medvedeva and you've got standards even at the age of 11 ! 😜😜😜

I can't ...she is even doing crossrolls :laugh2:

There are also some young skaters who have skated their programs with the music of Seimei. I usually don't like japonaise music or asian music in general, but I like Seimei very much. I prefer classical music like The Swan Notte..., but the music of Seimei is very beautiful, it is Yuzuru himself.
It was hard to believe at World in Boston, when he skated this program he was injured and lost to Fernandez by 40 points in Free Program. I am still very sad. All season in 2015-2016, he beat Fernandez in both GPF in Barcelona by a large margin, only to lose in World.
I hope that it will be different this time in Helsinki. The winner must skate 2 clean programs with 4 or 5 quais in FP. It is not like when Fernandez won in the past 2 Worlds.
Anyway, Fernandez can not win the competition with 2 or 3 quads and 99 PSC and lot of posing anymore.

I think Javier deserved that win for the skate of his life. But yes, still sad about Boston. I want a closure for this "obstacle" and I think Yuzu is capable of delivering that. Fingers crossed for Helsinki.

*goes to watch Boston Requiem 10x for the ultimate heartbreak experience*
Watching Boston Requiem was when I became a fan. I had no idea why it felt so bittersweet and beautiful and heartbreaking at the time. Retroactive tears :sad4: :sad4: :sad4: :sad4: :sad4: :sad4:

I'm far from a Javier uber but the guy couldn't even skate the day before because of his foot. He earned this gold fair and square.

I know all the hype is surrounding the sQuad but I wouldn't discount him as Worlds threat at all, especially when he pulled 216 in a free skate at Boston with 3 quads while Yuzuru with 4, one of them being a 4Loop, although not a perfect skate, at this 4CC got 206, thats 10 points there. I know it might have been a one-time-life-changing skate situation, Worlds inflation and all that, but just something to think of. He's always under the radar before Worlds due to meh Europeans showing yet he ends up peaking at exactly the right moment to earn a medal at Worlds, be it bronze or gold. and all his previous competitions are forgotten, this sounds salty but I can't resist lmao

Also, I want to keep the flame of my candles alive and hope that Patrick will throw it down with a gorgeous free, even if my ideal outcome is a Yuzuru gold chanyu forever..

All of the top skaters can have less than optimal days, this counts for 3, 4 or 5 quads so Worlds gold is pretty much open.

People have to be realistic. Scores last season belong to last season. Yuzuru was kinda cleanish at 4CC and only got 206. I have no doubt he would have scored above his WR LP if he hadn't popped that 4S3T but he didn't have momentum of a clean SP, so no WR total for sure. WR of a LP often goes with a clean SP.
This season they have been holding the scores of the top men down so they don't want to create huge gap among the favorites.
Unless Yuzuru goes clean both the current SP and LP, I don't see him breaking his own WR. However, skater like Yuzuru only has several chances of going clean back to back in his entirely career, especially with the layout and transitions he is doing. So if he won't be clean at WC it's still okay to me. It would be great if he wins though. Still, save the clean back to back for the most important event.

In general I agree, but in this case It's not like Javier is being scored any differently though. :coffee: And I don't believe Yuzuru's scores are deflated.

Also, I believe a clean short makes it more likely for a PCS bump but a not so clean one doesn't make impossible by any means for a WR LP from Yuzuru.

On 4CC alone 2 men surprassed 300, deservingly, and 2 surprassed 100 at the SP. For me they aren't holding the top men scores down at all, but that might be just my impression.

Well, Javi benefits because there is literally no one else in Europe so... :dance2:
Judges are trying to tie up the gap so by next season you will see all the favorites have kinda same GOE and PCS.

I am so, so tired of seeing this all over the forum and now it's in the fanfest as well.

Yuzuru pretty much threw away one entire jumping pass!

His combination should get him 16.28 but what he got was 1.98, with the GOEs, that jumping pass was worth a measly 1.92. That is pretty much thrown away.

In the end he ended up with, in terms of his jump BV, 87.53 vs 77.33 which is ultimately a 10.23 points difference, pure difference, without the GOEs and PCS for a full clean skate.

So this was far from a perfect skate. That he's still able to recoup (in BV numbers, only 4.07 of the losss btw) and actually win the FS and almost jump over Nathan speaks to his talent and immense skill but it should not blind us to the mess that 4S-3T left and where those 10 points and more went. Not because he is suddenly inferior to Javier, not because the judges lost it more than usual and they do deflate his scores but because he popped the combo.

:rolleye: Obviously. There was a reason of why I put "although not a perfect skate" in my sentence.

I never implied that Yuzuru is inferior to Javier.

Announcing "Oh, but X skater lost only because he did Z mistake!!!" is redundant. The reality is that skaters make mistakes, so a situation like this could mimic an actual competition like Worlds. It's unrealistic to think that Yuzuru, or any other skater for good measure, will be immune to popping/falling/botching/underrotating anything.

True. First be the best in your country; then be the best in your continent. That's the route to top scores. A politically perfect podium with bloc judging has one Asian, one European and one North American. (Patrick is in trouble.)

:rolleye: Obviously.

It's quite obviously, not obvious, because 'although not a perfect skate' is no where near the reality of what happened; it does imply it was close to it, when no, it most definitely was not; even with the 4 quads, and even with the 4Lo.

Of course skaters make mistakes, Javier included. And at the Worlds they will all have to be clean to be even remotely the masters of their fate. But a 'near perfect' skate most definitely won't be throwing away 14+ points.

Is my english failing me? "Although not a perfect skate" for me means exactly what it is: a skate which is not perfect. Do you think it doesn't describe what happened? Not 'near perfect', not 'almost perfect'. :scratch3: Legit question.

And these numbers also IMO make it pretty clear that clean Yuzu LP = new LP WR. I mean, just add the missing BV, and we're only 3 points off of his GPF LP. At least half of that goes with +GOE for the 4S3T combo. And then I'm pretty sure he'd have gotten more PCS too.
(And that is with him not getting his best GOE on most of his jumps too  )

I don't get the talk that the judges are holding the scores down this season. Have you guys watched the actual skating? :p GPF last season vs this? IMO, there is a certain overall boost coming with a completely clean skate, but that's a good thing. That is what gave Yuzu's scores an extra push last season (at NHK, GPF & WC SP). But I'm very sure if he'd skate 100% again, he'd get it again.

Well, I think the easiest way to tell is by total BV. People sometimes get clouded by the amount of quads landed.
His FS in 2015 has a BV of 97+ pts, his FS at 4CC has a BV of 93+ pts, his planned FS layout has a BV of 103.3 pts. So yes, eventhough he landed 4 quads, his total BV is lower than last season's FS. But then again, that is where GOE come into play. What many also forgotten is his WR racked 25 pts in GOE. It is not really an easy feat to overcome even with higher BV. Basically you have to make at least 8 of the judges agree to give you +3s.

When you say although not a perfect skate it does carry a implication that it was up there. You'll often see constructions like 'although not perfect, he was a great man'.
It was a great save, as good as it gets but that mistake was really big.

Thanks. For me it was just in direct contrast to "perfect" and that's it, since I didn't add anything after that. I know a pop is a big mistake under IJS. :dance2:

Right. It was such a huge mistake—and he knew it—that it triggered superhuman emergency quad mode.

I think Yatagarasu agrees with you that Javi is not to be discounted at all actually. The reason why "although not a perfect skate" sounded weird is because the number of quads in Javi's Worlds LP vs Yuzuru's 4CC LP seemed to be highlighted as the main reason for those respective scores (216 vs 206). When in reality, Javi's was a skate-of-his-life 3-quad performance, and Yuzuru's was a far-from-perfect-although-counterintuitively-impressive performance XD

But it's also true that a lot of people (whether it be ubers of other skaters, or Yuzuru fans) have been talking about 4CC as almost perfect. Which  I'm glad Yuzu gave off that impression....

-------------------
I had these typed up in a conversation with a friend when we were talking about 4CC. It's a solid analysis by k-miya in her blog (only in Japanese, that's why I typed it out). I'll share these here. It shows what a costly mistake that pop was. It also supports what Li'Kitsu says, the seeds are there for Yuzuru to break his WR. Despite Ms Lorrie Parker (yes, Judge 4) :dev2: and a huge loss in the BV, he still racked up 19+ in GOE.
