Yes Yuzuru seems to be the most popular and the most influential skater for all skaters young and less young. I still remember in his debut in 2011 at Cup of Russia, he was 16 years old, the first year he skated internationally except a competition in Four Continents where he won silver, behind DaisukeTakahashi. He won gold medal of Cup of Russia 2011. Then in the press conference after FS, someone asked to see his skates with the Revolution blades. He was the only one who starts to wear those fancy blades.
Now we can see that almost haft of all skaters wear those blades, is it the influence of Yuzuru?
Many male American skaters wear them, like Nathan, Max, Adam, Joshua Farris etc...
I think that he is more popular with American skaters than with Japanese skaters back home in Japzan.

I can not start to compare Javier to Yuzuru now in 2017, on the basis of his scores in SP and LP at last world 2016 to the scores of Yuzuru and Nathan in Four Continents 2017. It is not the same competition, not the same year.

If you want to compare them in different competition in 2017, you can also take into account Javier skates in GPF December 2016 in Marseille, or Javier skates in Europe championship January 2017.

It is hard to say he is a better skater than Yuzuru or Nathan for now. Even Patrick or Shoma have skated better than Javier this year.

It's less about who the better skater is, and more about who delivers on the day of.

It's folly to disregard Javier. I don't necessarily agree with the super combinacion decision (high risk low returns?), but he's peaked reliably at Worlds in recent seasons. I remember someone in the underdog thread saying she was really rooting for Javier (as reigning world champion at that point) to "topple" the overwhelming favorite (...). He's PCS King this season. Like Lambari said in an earlier post, he has a layout he's familiar with. He's been training. We can generally expect better performances from him at World than GPF/European.

Actually, Yuzuru debuted at the seniors GP when he was 15 at NHK Trophy 2010 where he placed 4th. There's this amusing video about him with Daisuke.

Worlds is usually one of Javier's strongest competitions comparatively to the rest of his season, not GPF. Interestingly enough he's usually under the radar before Worlds due to decent enough-not stellar results in his previous outings, save some exceptions like Euros 2013. So that's why I think he shouldn't be put aside as a gold contender.

The article came out just before Euro, and he didn't do it during the competition so I don't know if this is actually something he's going for.

Wow I didn't know that he might have had such an influence in blade choices of skaters nowadays. It's great to see all the influence he's had on these juniors and even other skaters around him.

Many female skates wear those skates (or have wore them on and off) like Yuzuru's Pattern99. Exemple: Caroline Kosner, Gracie Gold, Ashey, Mirai, Mao Asada, Satoko, many japanese girls, Joshie etc..

I can say that Yuzuru's music and costumes are the most popular and imitated amongs all skaters male and female. How many programs with the music of Romeo and Juliet ? with POTO, with Notre Dame de Paris, with Seimei, with Parisian walkway ?
How many time we have seen pictures of young boys and girls with costumes inspired by Yuzuru ?

Can you imagine that with the costumes inspired by Patrick, Javier or any others skaters ?

POTO, NDP and R&J are well known warhorses in FS so sometimes is almost impossible to see which ones were inspired by Yuzuru but at least we have those who go the extra mile to make it obvious that Yuzuru's version were their inspiration. It's more common to see costume replications within music that bears no similarity whatsoever to Yuzuru's original version though, or the other way around.

One of my personal favourites is this sweetheart that skated which a POTO 2.0 costume to Imagine. I mean, I don't blame him, Yuzuru's vision for his costumes are unusual to say the least so maybe it also fits Imagine lol

Costume replications or similar ones are much more common, since Yuzuru's are almost always distinctive, than repeating the music. Seimei is a piece of music that Yuzuru really brought in yes, there was Reed's version, which is also great, but Yuzuru made it extra popular so I'm giving him the merit so I think that young skaters that choose this one are the hardcore ones. Same with PW, I can't recall many skaters before with it, there's this one that was popular before 240p alert but other than that I can't remember.

It's not that usual to find music that a skater really made their own, so I'm hoping that Yuzuru will choose an unusual piece to skate at the Olympic season and by that I don't mean nokia ringtones. Even if he doesn't, I'm expecting him to make a memorable version of whatever music he chooses to skate too since he managed it before. there's just so many 2.0 one fan can take k

Off topic, but vandrouille mentioned if Javier and Patrick inspired programs exist and I remember this one uses Black Betty in half of it, and the season after Javier used so maybe not a coincidence and this one for Patrick's POTO. The costume is pretty standard but June is a big fan of Patrick so probably inspired. There was one boy who repeated two Javier programs, one of them being Barber of Seville I think (?) but I can't find the videos. I believe though, that Yuzuru replicas are much more common, not only because he's extremely popular but also because they are easier to spot lmfao

My favourite part is 1:04, music transitions on point. I believe his goal is to express the shortcomings of widespread communication in this millenium, a concept that us mere mortals cannot easily comprehend. Iconic.
