Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

The original POTO lived too short to leave certain impression, I guess.

But that pose of masking his face is gold ofc :luv17:
I love it when Yuzu's like that.
I don't know how to say it, but I really love it when he skates as if he's possessed by something and really immersed into the program. With fire behind his eyes.

That is interesting about the rotaion and opening up to early. I would have never thought about that being a hinderance. I was reading somewhere the airtime of a quad was around .65 of a second, I assume that the 4A not only needs height but a few hunderths of a second more on airtime.

I want to see someone land one, it doesn't even have to be in comeptition!

More height = more airtime. Unless he can rotate faster than he already is (which is highly unlikely), he does need more height to fully rotate the 4A. I remember I read a scientific article about jumps in FS especially quads. They calculated that based on the maximum rotational speed + maximum height/airtime that humans are capable of, the maximum a human being can do would be 5.5 or 5 revolution (don't remember well). BUT those who rotate fast are usually skinny thin like a pencil, while those who jump high and huge are usually muscled and bulky. So it is kind of a paradox (re: quints are just physically near impossible)

My English isn't good enough to express the same thing, but I understand what you mean. Yes, this fire in his the eyes is what makes some perfomances so special. And, sorry to say that. I still miss this expression in H&L.

Yuzuru is on the skinny side, but doesn't he have a huge axel? And he seems to rotate faster this season.

lol English is't even my first language too, so it's okay.
And I agree with you. That's why we mostly say he hasn't skated H&L to its potential. In GP series, he has been emotional enough, but the technical side hasn't.
In 4CC, the technical was good, but the whole YOLO made it hard for him to really go with the mood of the program.
Thus I wish we'll see that fire in Worlds. Not red fire, but blue calming fire, since H&L is such a delicate program.
It's more important for me than him getting the gold, because usually if it's there, he will automatically get the gold

Well, for comparison, Yuzuru rotates faster than Boyang but he actually jumps smaller (in height) compared to him. A japanese TV show calculated it in 2015/16 iirc. The height of his jump (quads) is in the 50-60 cm range (iirc. someone calculated it before), smaller for the triples. It is considered huge even for men's standard though. But imo his jumps look impressively huge because it also travels across the distance + smooth flow out and running edge with great speed.

For example, Yagudin jumps higher than him, or Midori Ito is capable of reaching 65-70 cm in height when doing triple axel (true queen, honestly). BUT Ito's and Yagudin's air position are WILD, thus their rotational speed is not as fast imo. If Yuzuru can increase the height of his jump about 5-10 cm more from the usual height, I'd say that extra 0.5 rotation doesn't look to be too far-fetched. ;)

ETA : Can't comment about his rotational speed this season. To me it looks about the same, unless someone actually calculate it, I really can't say much

I can't wait to see his rendition of H&L at Worlds :luv17:

One thing I find fascinating while watching the old videos, is how his program always get metamorphosed at one point, when he really feel at ease with it and thoroughly gets immersed in it. Suddenly, the same program goes from "very impressive, enjoyable to watch" to "absolutely enthralling". A captivating piece of art.

I think it happened already with LGC at GPF (forget 4Lo). He was particularly enjoying the StSq. Let's see what happens with H&L at Worlds.

Yes LGC at GPF was wonderful, seeing it live must have been quite something with all the people clapping and cheering - we can only be greedy and expect the same thing yes I'm unshamefully paraphrasing the BBCs uncles with a fully clean Lo at Worlds :)
H&L will be fabulous. I know it. I FEEL it.

I wonder, though, how much height Yuzu could manage to have in his 3A and possibly a 4A if he stopped doing all the steps/transitions before it he does. If he only did crossovers into it. Like that huge 3A in Barcelona...

judging by the 3A from the top men and the quad craze, I'm not even surprise if someday quint jump will come out first before 4A

I heard Nathan best jump is 4T, and I ever watched in a Japan TV program that shown Nathan rotated quad faster than Shoma.

so lets make a bet, which is will come out first?

From this you can see that the height of his 3A is 47 cm (approx abt 50 cm, 0.62 s airtime), while the height of his 4T reached 60 cm (0.7 s airtime) and 4S is 53 cm (0.66 s airtime). Say, he needs 0.15-0.17 s for each rotation, He needs an extra 0.08 to 0.09 s for 4A. It is about 10 cm more needed, roughly, indeed. Or he probably could jump it as high as his 4T and it MIGHT be enough.

On the comment of this photo it seems that Yuzuru has some room to add a bit more rotation... I really can't tell, he is too fast :)
But Yuzuru said he thought he should be able to do it, so I guess he will. He did almost everything he said he would do :). the only things lacking yet are 2nd olympic medal and 4A :)

Other topic :

I'm surprised everyone seem to like red on Yuzuru ? Perhaps it's because of the Ghana commercials, but It's definitely not my favourite color on him. Etude's blue is the most beautiful color he's worn in my opinion (and since his autobiography is called "blue flames" he may agree with me :) )

I would like to see Yuzu in red costume, but I don't think he will go for that in competition, at least not next season (because CoC, and didn't Brian wore red in his second Olimpics?- I wouldn't risk it, and I am not a very superstitious person  ). But I love both red and blue so I don't mind all the blue costumes- I love all of them except FTT (If I could get one Yuzu's costume, I would choose FTT and burn it) :slink: . And "Blue flames " sounds more poetic, don't you think?

I don't know much about jumps, but sometimes when I'm watching his practises I have a feeling that he wouldn't have a problem with making his jumps bigger I he'd want to- some of his 3A's at OPs are higher and/or longer than usual or it's just my bad sight?

When they're done in isolation, it's natural they can be longer or higher or bigger, since he probably doesn't do the 357 steps before the jump or isn't as tired.

I am watching junior men FS now and Koshiro Shimada is skating to R&J1. I can't help smiling all the time :) Almost the same music cuts.

4A from Yuzu :).

Since GPF he was talking a lot about 4A. Somehow it makes me think 4A is almost there. And some curious comments from Brian...or it is just my wishful thinking .

It is something I don't understand about FTT costume. Why he used the blue one if he had a much better one

Yes, you're right, but I had one of his 3A's from runthrough of LGC in mind, it looked like he still had air time when he stopped rotating, but maybe it looked different to me because it was fancam and not official recording? Anyway, I love his 3A, it's my favourite jump, and my only dream regarding it is clean landing in Notte Stellata

I don't understand it either. The white one was great IMO, he looked like a real prince in it.

There is a button in the right bottom corner of a message you want to quote. If you put cursor over it says "multi-quote this message". It adds current message as a quote to your next message.

:otopic: Roman Sadovsky is also skating now to R&J1 :laugh2: R&J epidemy at Junior Worlds.

Thank you! Please, have some important Yuzu gif in return X
