Haha. I am considered " self employed" so I am taking the day off. My coworkers do not know it yet, nor will I confess the real reason, but I will somehow develop some illness...hehe. Nice to see my priorities are in order, eh? lol.

They're just trying to make it dramatic. There was a lot of good stuff in it and it's generally easy for me to ignore the over dramatization of Brian vs Yuzuru.

Does the boy need any dramatization... :palmf: He's already so extra.
It does look like they're occasionally short of clips and resorting to photos though.

3Am for me:hap57:
I think i am going to ask for a day off

At the laptop? I hijacked the big tv in the living room, good thing my computer is light enough and i can carry it with no problem. I had my whole family watching Yuzu and cheering for him  My grandma is the reason why i started watching figure skating, since she likes it, but she never watched men's until now  she said that Yuzu is a very pretty boy and he skates beautifully :)

Do u keep calm watching him with your whole family?

Well, for comparison, Yuzuru rotates faster than Boyang but he actually jumps smaller (in height) compared to him. A japanese TV show calculated it in 2015/16 iirc. The height of his jump (quads) is in the 50-60 cm range (iirc. someone calculated it before), smaller for the triples. It is considered huge even for men's standard though. But imo his jumps look impressively huge because it also travels across the distance + smooth flow out and running edge with great speed.

For example, Yagudin jumps higher than him, or Midori Ito is capable of reaching 65-70 cm in height when doing triple axel (true queen, honestly). BUT Ito's and Yagudin's air position are WILD, thus their rotational speed is not as fast imo. If Yuzuru can increase the height of his jump about 5-10 cm more from the usual height, I'd say that extra 0.5 rotation doesn't look to be too far-fetched. ;)

ETA : Can't comment about his rotational speed this season. To me it looks about the same, unless someone actually calculate it, I really can't say much
You know, that's a perfect way to put it. Of course there were people that preferred Yags to Plush artistically, but I never liked watching Yags jump as much. He could do them, but when it came to jumping I preferred watching Plushenko because his just looked a lot smoother and faster. His 4/3/2 was poetry in motion. I saw him do it on tv one time and I was forever invested in mens skating. I used to only like the ladies. Now I'm way more invested in mens than any other discipline.

Someone on my twitter posted 'Don't skate to this, Yuzu put a curse on it" :laugh2: RJ and POTO are now cursed by Yuzu and should never be touched.

eta: I feel bad gor Junhwan, I thought he could take bronze.... but Vincent did amazing and I'm very proud of him

R&J was cursed with Sasha Cohen, lol. Difference is, Sasha fell twice and lost the gold. Yuzu still won it (to my surprise and delight).

I am sick now unfortunately (second time this year which is odd and annoying). Took off Tuesday, went to work Wednesday and everybody treated me like a had the plague (but I am the only one there to do my job), and now I'm off again today. I'd just rather have this now than when I leave for Helsinki in 10 days.

Yes clearly they weren't very inspired, and probably thought they absolutely had to make an episode about Yuzu before worlds, but couldn't get fresh material...

But in any case, I love hearing Yuzu talk with subtitles. It's not the same than transcription. You've got the tone, the rythm, the faces that go with the words. And that's unique <3

Aww, awful to be sick.... but take it now, in Helsinki you have to do some serious work cheering!! The problem with my plan for taking the day off during World's is that I"m always told that when you fib about something, then that something will come true... so I hesitate to say sick because it'll actually happen... and working with my clients means a high probability of catching illnesses...

Any TV has to create drama out of thin air to sell stuff. So they exaggerate what they have.
I have to say that the visuals for that SoA-2 looked.. secondary. I wonder why they bothered. :)

Lol not at all, my family was very amused because i was shouting at the screen, jumping up and down, crushing my Pooh tsum tsum and groaning every now and then while saying "I WANT HIM TO SKATE NOOOOW I MISS HIIIIM" :laugh2:

I know, I know... just being grumpy :curse: Yuzu thinks so deeply about figure skating, has such a unique mindset, is so interesting as a person in general, I just find it a lost opportunity. Yuzu silo-ing himself away and ninja-ing from place to place probably doesn't help them either. On the other hand, we have a bunch of awesome fan service clips (that funny NHK practice dramatic thumbs up, HD koi dance, death glare to the skies or in Meoima's words, merely an annoyed kitten glare...)!

Figure skating is drama! They take that drama and sprinkle extra drama sugar on it. 😆

I love Yuzuru drama! The extraness makes him so fun to follow. I live for figure skating drama, which pretty much explains why my favorites are the ones with dramatic careers.

Yes, I am more of a Yagudin fan but I have to admit in terms of jumping quality Plush is better, arguably spins too, but Yags has the better transition and SS imo. Yagudin is the first skater I watch and know, so he will always be special to me (His straight line footwork sequence still make my jaw drops to this day). While Yuzuru is the first skater I am an actual uber fan of, so he is even more special. Yags jumps are known for his height, not landing quality etc, it is too labored and wild with very rough landing imo, in CoP he would get 0 to -1, maybe. But well, he is a legend for other aspects of his skating, great performers  While Yuzuru, in my 15(?)ish year watching skating, he is the most gifted, complete, all-around skater I have ever seen. Technical aside, his skating gave me goosebumps and moved me, I would never forget the day I watch NHK seimei. :sad21: It is almost a religious experience.

P.S The Canadian curse is stronger than the Sasha Cohen curse possibly. I think they fell at about the same time of the music too? Iirc?

I watch figure skating with my family often, when Yuzu was on at 4CC I just kept my eyes glued to the screen with a constant stream of commentary... "you want to pay attention to him, he's the best." "Pay attention family &friends." "4Loop, get it!" "Yes, yes yes!!!!!" "This is the scary part!" "Noooooooooooo double sal!" "DidYOUJUSTSEETHAT3A3T" "um he just won the free skate, no one can top that!!!!!!" "HisMusicIsSoWonderful!" "I LOVE JAPAN!" "I love Yuzu and Shoma and Nathan, can they all be on the podium!" "Yay they all made the podium!" "Yuzu is most definitely going to win worlds now!!!!" "That was next level, Yuzu is mad, Yuzu is mad he's going to kill it at worlds!" "What a competition." "That horrid 4S3T, he's going to murder it!"

It was not a calm weekend. I was invested in all the top 3 skaters in the men's event. I don't actually know how I got in so deep, I have kinda watched mens here and there but this year I just love all of them! I want a 6 person podium with Yuzu at the top!

well, those unseen moments are the only reason why I watch this. :)
Hey, work week is over, I can goof about a bit! Not that I've got nothing to do, but... not tomorrow!

oh god.. it's only 12 days away to World!!! oh no... I am renovating my house and I want my room to be ready before world so that I could watch the competition on live stream alone peacefully with chocolate and wine. seems like it's impossible. sigh.. why...

I feel the same way about Plush (though I do have more of an appreciation for Yags now, but back then the rivalry made it hard and I picked a side  At least it worked out pretty well for both of them in the long run). He was a first so he'll always have a special place, lol. I think Plush had some good spin positions (with the exception of the scratch spin and sit spin) and he had a really nice camel, but he was also quite flexible too which helped. I think his spins were weak when it came to speed and especially maintaining speed. But now Yuzu has surpassed him for me. I can definitely say that. He may have arguably surpassed Sasha too. I can't decide yet, lol. In the meantime I call him my "new Sasha" for anybody that knows me and how much I ubered Sasha back in the day.

Would you believe I never watched Sasha's Oly free program? Too painful, especially when it was clear that they wanted to give it to her and in hindsight her skate at US Nats that year would have been enough! I remember sitting in my dorm in college watching the results update (no streaming back then of course) and when I saw she fell to second that was it for me (not that I don't like Arakawa but she did end up winning the titles I wanted for Sasha in both Worlds and Olys). I only know that she fell on the first two passes.

haha When I watched 4CC, it was on my laptop with earphones, in the livingroom... My husband took pictures of me without me noticing because I looked so serious, silent and stressed it made him laugh (while I'm usually very cheery). I think I was sending glares to everyone who could potentially disturb me from my religious watching :)

For Worlds, I'm taking a day off for the SP, and I intend to thoroughly enjoy the fact that I'll be alone in my bubble
For the free I might allow some company though, because it's on a saturday. But they better behave because I won't be easilly amused ;)

I'm the kind of person who invites everyone to watch with me, but I have ground rules about who can have opinions. (One of my guests went off on Gracie's skating and I shut them down so fast, it was Skate America 2015 where she did well). I also demand people pay attention to my favorites.

I like to have people around but they don't always like to be around. It's definitely a mix of me shutting peopme up and me going crazy about what is happening. I would also love to take off work but I can't do so. I will be avoiding the threads and watching my recordings of NBCSN each evening.

I have to watch alone. I have to fully concentrate on the skater and if it is Yuzu I want no witnesses to my intense concentration, pleading to higher powers, etc..!!

I usually have to watch around because no one wants to stay awake at those ungodly hours. Last GPFs were a pleasant surprise - but still my family prefers to go to bed really early and Yuzu usually skates late...
