Yeah, it sounds serious. At this point I can't help thinking she'll end up like Yukina Ota.
If that happens her doctor(s) and coach(es) are to blame. Yes, she's already 18 years old but they're responsible for her health, she probably can't grasp what she's risking.

Her own parents are doctors and she said she wanted to become a doctor herself (which is why it wouldn't be a surprise if next season will be her last season) so I hope that they can decide what's best for her at the moment.
If that's the case I don't really understand why they tampered with her toeloop technique in the first place. It's not that something like that can be fixed in a couple of weeks, this takes months/years and the results are often questionable as we all know. I guess she probably suffered pain before she tried to change it and that that made everything worse. But if she doesn't want to have (or thinks that she can't have) a long competitive career the risk of a permanent hip injury is probably worth taking. And now that you mention it - I remember that I read that her parents are doctors. At least they should know what she's risking.

As we in the gymnastics world might say, JSF is 1 news release away from fixing Marin's age and sending her to Worlds 
In all seriousness, I would really hate for Satoko to miss an Olympics injuring herself trying to get 3 spots for Japan. I'm sure she and her team will make the decision that's right for her, whether that means dropping out of Worlds or not. Obviously, her delightful skating will be missed but her health is of the utmost priority.
Who knows, maybe Worlds will be a 4 Continents repeat and Mai Mihara will pull out a surprise victory

They didn't try to fix it right now, she's been trying to fix it for years. It's just that she always had a tendency to overtrain. Since she started feeling pain before the GPF, she shouldn't have competed at GPF and Nationals but what's done is done.

AFAIK, 1) Rika Hongo and 2) Kanako Murakami.
Sadly, neither of them is likely to place high enough to help Japan keep 3 spots, especially poor Rika, who is injured.
Let this be a lesson to JSF, though TBH I don't know who else they could have selected. None of the second tier ladies have performed consistently well this season. I guess they didn't expect Mao, Rika, and Wakaba to suffer injuries (and consequently underperform) in the same season.

Has Satoko ever done a loop combo? Obviously she shouldn't stress herself out more and her team knows best, but I wonder if 2A / 3Lo+3Lo / 3Lz would be less taxing on the left hip for the SP, and maybe reverting to 3Lz+2T+2Lo / 2A+3T / 2A+3T in the FS is less taxing.
In less depressing news, Marin, Yuna, and Kaori seem to be doing pretty well at Junior Worlds! I'm rooting for Marin to win, but Yuna Shiraiwa was 3rd in the FS at Nationals. Was anyone else worried about her glove when watching the SP?

yes, sacrifice to Mao, she is injured too, and ask her it just 1 week before?:disapp:. Mao earned the spots for Japan for many years, it is about time that other girls to do that job.
By the way, which is the limit date for Satoko withdraw and to get a replacement?

but I don't know if she can do a 3Lo-3Lo.
I'd love for Kaori Sakamoto to go to Senior Worlds if Satoko does withdraw. I love her powerful skating and getting senior exposure would be great for an Olympic team bid next year.
Is that even an option though?

Not officially. Hongo and Murakami are the official substitutes but an injured Satoko would still do better than both of them. I would love for JSF to send Kaori in Satoko's place; it would be a win-win situation all around. But I'm afraid that's not what JSF is thinking, they want someone who can deal with pressure. And the pressure is huge.
If I were JSF, I would send a limping Satoko to World, too. If she can manage just 5 triples, they will at least keep her in top 6.

The feds would but if Satoko is not fully recovered by the time for Worlds, her injury could be aggravated, so her start for the next season also can be strongly affected. I'm worried.
