2025-26 Japanese Women's Figure Skating

I really enjoyed Jackie's interview with Wakaba! He is a good interviewer. She is such a lovely skater, and I will really miss her.

On the 24th, the Japan Skating Federation announced the roster of skaters selected to compete in the Asian Open Trophy (August 1–5, Jakarta), which included Kazuki Tomono (Daiichi Juken Group) in the men’s division and Rinka Watanabe (Sanwa Kensou, Hosei University) and Rion Sumiyoshi (Oriental Bio) in the women’s division.

It looks JFS updated national team list (strengthened athletes who get fed's funding).

Saki Miyake, Rino Matsuike were moved to Group A (from Group B), Mako Yamashita and Rion Sumiyohi were added to Group A (they weren't on the list before). That's probably a consequence of grand prix assigments.

For juniors, Rena Uezono and Kaoruko Wada were added to Group B.
I wonder if it's related to junior grand prix assigments.
Anyway, great news for all of them.

So Japan is currently using less than half of their men’s spots and underutilising their women’s spots as well. :( The article doesn’t make it sound like they’re gonna add people aside from second assignment for those who already have one if they do well. :(

I hope it gets expanded, but I’m not holding my breath looking at the Fed’s previous decisions.

So, when is the 2026–27 Japanese women's figure skating thread going to be made? It's already July.

I just created one. But the content needs to be updated. I decided to create one, as Jul 2~4 will be the Special Training Camp for Sr. skaters (Single), and we will be getting some more updates about the new programs (please move over to the other thread for more discussion!)
