2025-26 Japanese Women's Figure Skating

I'd love to see Mako on the big intl stage, I miss watching her skating with proffesional footage. She's so good. I hope she have enough funds and motivation to continue and she'll finally get more opportunities.

Any competition that happens after Worlds doesn’t count for SB and Kawabe’s not among top 24 SB or WS.
Coupe du Printemps happened before Worlds.
Talking about Top 24 SB or WS, Saki Miyake, Rino Matsuike, Mako Yamashita are not there either. So in theory they are all in the same pool for 1 assignment just like Mana.
Their SB are accordingly:
Saki Miyake 196.79
Mana Kawabe 194.95
Rino Matsuike 193.21
Mako Yamashita 183.81

An SB comes from a Grand Prix/Junior Grand Prix, Challenger event or ISU championship. Coupe du Printemps is a Senior B and doesn't count for an SB.

Right... It makes sense.

Although now, I start wondering what was the point of sending Mana and Rinka to Coupe du Printemps

So it did. But it still didn’t count as an SB so my point still stands.

No, they’re not in the same situation because they all have international SBs unlike Kawabe. Miyake, for example, is sitting pretty at 27 and should get two assignments after retired and junior skaters are removed.

Unlike the other skaters on your list, Kawabe has no chance of getting anything other than a host spot because she has no SB and her world standing is too low.

EDIT: Don’t like double posting and I just saw the other posts. Coupe de Printemps still counted for TES minimums (did Kawabe have them before that competition?) and for WS points. Just not SB. Not sure why Watanabe was there, though. It would have made more sense to send another skater that actually needs the points.

The points were useful for Watanabe as well; she only had one non-major event for the standings and wasn’t going to get championship level event points this season either. Senior B win is not huge point-wise (around mid-10s place in a championship level), but nothing to sneeze at.

(Ranking points are 5 slots current and previous two seasons, 1 for championship-level, 2 for GP level and 2 for other events under GP level - challengers or senior Bs).

I am so happy for Kaori!!! 😍

Japanese people are usually very reserved about their personal relationships, so it's hardly surprising that she only mentioned it at the very end of her press conference. She probably doesn't want to say too much about it but also doesn't want to hide it either.

Congratulations again Kaori!:love4:

The Kinoshita Group announced on the 15th that Mao Shimada (17), a four-time World Junior Champion in women’s figure skating, will throw out the first pitch at the Angels-Dodgers game on the 16th (17th Japan time) in Anaheim, California.
