Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I remember when I saw yuzu gpf sp in 2015, I was at work, very lucky my boss wasn't at the office but my friend she works right next to me and I just watched in livestream yuzu perfomance anyway, my friend was very curious so she stayed watching with me, and as soon as yuzu started doing his program my friend said ohhh he's so pretty!, he skates so beautiful, are all of them (figure skaters) this charming (in spanish she said simpático )?!, and she kept repeating how pretty and beautiful he looked even after he finished his program, I was really surprised because she has never seen figure skating before, she didn't know this sport existed before, never i would imagine she would like it , she told me I had good taste (because yuzu is so pretty! X), she wanted to watch more skating videos but unfortunately my boss arrived , for someone who never watched figure skating I'm happy she was able to appreciate yuzu

Once I saved a gif and named it "4T" then I realised it was a salchow.. It should be otherwise as mcq said, that his pick is so light that it is not even visible, but this time I hallucinated that he picked his toe. It's embarrassing, but if I don't see the steps before he jumps then to me, it is easier to confuse, also because he goes into his jumps so fast....

Am I the only one who associate Yuzu's jumps with colours?

To me:
3A = red
4T = grey
4Lo = dark green
4S = royal blue
3F = yellow
3Lz = purple

Oh wow I thought I was the only one with the colors. But for me I only have it for three jumps.
3A- royal blue
4Lo- green
4S- yellow

About Notte Stellatta, I was talking with another Yuzuru's fan on Twitter then we talked about how we became Yuzu's fans. I found myself couldn't remember which his program that really got me liking him, because I remembered I watched his videos after gpf16 but the love hadn't been there yet.

So, I checked my YT to see which video of him I liked first, apparently I seemed to get hooked by Notte Stelatta. Looking back now, I think what got me is his grace and his hands. So, if he end next season with Notte Stelatta too, it will come a full circle for me

I'm so perfectionist with my gifs so I usually spend like 2 hours with photoshop just for making one

Hi Hi.. I am a new fan too. I'd never been a part of any fandom before (well, at least not this level). never joined or read any online forums before. I found people in this forum are very respectful to each other and we share our love for Yuzuru. That's the reason for me to start talking (posting). I don't have any friend who shares my interest in figure skating around either. no surprise really, there's no ice rink in my super-hot country and figure skating is not known as a sport.

but here I am, know the names of all the jumps (can differentiate a few now), different elements of figure skating, remember the skating season timetable by heart, seen almost all of Yuzu's competitions (Junior ones included), read all interviews that I could find, watched him skate live and back-tracked this crazy enormous forum within six months. Now aiming to join YFAC before World.

Another quiet Saturday? The trouble with me is that I work on Saturdays, so it's just another day for me. I come home and I usually look for a bit of nonsense to take my mind away from what I've been doing before.

I just watched the new Spirit of the Athlete with Yuzu. There is a subbed version here by Yuzu Fairy and you can find the other parts on her account.

Did anyone else find Brian a bit naive here? In part 4, he said Yuzu shouldn't spend too much time looking back at the younger skaters who do all different kinds of quads to chase him but move forward with the bigger picture in mind. I don't think that's very smart especially because of how judges are currently scoring PCS and GOE.

Skate Canada - Étude in D sharp minor. The short program of his breakout season, a turbulent program associated with the strong emotions of the Earthquake. A pivotal competitive program.
Trophée Éric Bompard - Notre-Dame de Paris. A French musical skated in France. The first long program after his coaching change and move halfway across the world to a country whose language he didn't even speak. Could be seen as his first steps into a new stage in his career.
Fukuoka Grand Prix Final - Story. A song about never giving up, you're never alone, skated for a home audience who can understand the lyrics. The only truly new exhibition of the season for the first of his triple crown.
Japan Nationals - Hana ni nare. Live, cry, stumble, grow, become a flower that stands up in the wind.
Sochi Olympics - White Legend. A Japanese take on a Russian classic, presented on the grandest stage of them all. A program that brackets his career around the 2011 Earthquake because it was created before (2010-2011 season SP) but skated as an Exhibition after as well (2011 Nationals, 2012 Worlds).
World Championships - Romeo + Juliet. A last send-off to the beloved program and performance that propelled his career into stardom. An introspection into himself regarding his own maturing as a skater, performer, and person. Romeo has become a man.

Thank you for this lovely take on his exhibition timeline. On White Legend, I must say this is one of my favorite programs and one of my favorite costumes of his. In Tschaikovsky's original Swan Lake, this is the beginning of Act 1, Scene 2 where Rothbart makes his entrance. Ikuko Kawai takes this music and makes it softer, more melancholy and haunting. With the half-black/half-white costume and Yuzu expressing an image of wanting to fly, my rather romanticised interpretation of this program has always been Yuzu as a young Rothbart wanting to break free from his fate of being evil (fly from the darkness into the light).

On the costume, I didn't know this but the designer of this costume is Mu who also did his Etude and R&J 1 costumes. These are three of my favorite costumes of his (if not my favorite three).

Welcome! Things can get a bit heated during competitions, but we rarely fight each other. We might occasionally growl and bite, though.

He is right in a sense. There is no point in upgrading tech like including 4Lz if he barely master his 4Lo and is struggling with 4S3T. The younger ones has nothing to lose. They HAVE to do all the difficult jumps to compete with the veterans, otherwise they don't have a chance. if they land it they might beat a less-than-clean veterans, if they don't they'll be off the podium. Simple.

It is a different scenario for Yuzuru, if he falls all over the place due to trying several quads, it will hurt his reputation and his PCS (as it already did in the early season). The bigger picture for Yuzuru here is to skate clean with good GOE quality. He can spend his time worrying about doing different type of quads, but it meant zero if he barely skate clean with his current layout. He scored higher with 3 quads in the FS than anything he delivered this season afterall. BUT in order to upgrade his layout, he needs to suffer a bit and splat once in a while. He is recovering from a lisfranc injury+majorly revamping his tech, there is still a limit of how much he can bite and he can chew, imo. So I understand the perspective of both of them.

wow.. really? I became Yuzu's fan last Sept. so this will be my first Worlds. I was still lurking during GPF and was trying to stay alive during 4CC. so... I haven't really participated in the forum discussion during competition yet.

Just think, in a week's time we'll be wondering if the skaters have left for Helsinki yet... and people will look and see at what time of day flights leave from Toronto to get there and wonder which one he's on, lol!!!

It was wild. So many blaming and frustration and uncertainties and anger and depression lol.

It was actually the first time I de-lurk and post too, because everybody is either gloomy or angry I was slightly depressed and sad back then too, but not because of his losing, but because he was injured. There are so many uncertainties, we don't know his exact condition and there was BARELY any news from him wiht many conspiracy theories and speculation, it was such a difficult time.

I was really sad, because I don't know if he would be able to skate again, or at least if he would be able to jump and skate to the same level as he did in the recent GPF that just passed. :sad21: We were even thinking if he would skip the season to fully recover, or GP series at least. So many worst case scenario playing in our head. The first time I saw him again was that FaOI video and I swear it was so emotional. The moment we saw the first video in instagram where he was stroking, we were so delighted and in euphoria.

Actually looking back, how he did this season is light years better than I imagined. Though I lamented a lot about the combo-that-must-not-be-named, I think considering his injury and how long he has been off-ice, he did really stellar! I seriously don't know if he will skate again after I heard about his injury news, so I think right now as long as he is relatively healthy, I would be more than glad. :sad4: We can't really take how important his health is for granted.

True and well said. There's no point in adding tech if you can't execute it with a high probability of success.
