Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Notte stellata's biggest appeal imo is how simple, bare and somewhat raw it is, thus we can appreciate Yuzuru's simple stroking and gliding that we would likely not see in a competitive program with quads and 3A + numerous transitions. Put in a busy lvl4 stsq and it perhaps might not work. But anastasia gubanova's le cygne program is capable of doing all the elements + skating beautifully using that music so it is not like it is completely impossible to do, though it is a tall order for both Yuzu and the choreographer since we have seen it in its original form.

I'd say, choreographing FS is a bit harder, since it has more elements with only very little time added compared to SP. So I get the why fix it if it is not broke approach his team might choose to do. Brian said that it would be difficult for Yuzuru to work with choreographer other than those two due to how particular he is about the steps and his own vision of the jumps, the elements and the programs. More veteran choreographer probably have their own vision and interpretation of a program and maybe they like to be in charge more than the skater when it comes to realizing it.

Yes, that. From my own reading of things, Jeff has more control and vision in programs he choreographs than Shae-lynn. Yuzuru definitely said this somewhere (and I don't remember where) about PW, how Jeff as a choreographer likes his skaters to be true to his interpretation but then after seeing some of Yuzuru's own movements, said he wanted it to become Yuzuru's program. Essentially Shae-lynn was collaborative enough and gave enough space for SEIMEI to take shape and be very true to Yuzuru's vision. I think it's the same for H&L. It's a gentle program that maximizes Yuzuru's interpretation and vision.

Well, if he breaks his SP record in Helsinki, he won't keep LGC. If he doesn't, he may keep it. I guess?

If he did breaks his SP record, who knows if he keeps LGC for next season and change the layout with 4Lz .. 4Lo comb and 3A.. Is it possible?

Yeah, preferably in the second half, all of them. Aren't we greedy - we haven't seen him jump that 4Lz yet!

Another translation - just because it took me so long to track this down, so I won't risk losing it once again. We spoke of young Romeo and... here it is! The wiser and older young Romeo of WC 2014 gala. His encore is cut off and I couldn't find it first - but gladiolusc was kind enough to track that down too! Thank you!!! :thank:.

Part 1.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIO0X6LRH88

So now it’s Yuzuru Hanyu’s turn. His free program, Romeo and Juliet.

- A quad at the gala?! (the commentator mistook Yuzu’s 3Lz for a quad! In fact, both of them did)
- Well, if they come as easy as triples, why not jump them?
- Again – 3A3T at the gala!

- That was a stunning skate – he skated his free (competitive) program with the same spirit.
- He seems to have got really angry about something! I think he was mad at himself. He seemed less exciteable all these years, but now it seems as if he got to be an adult or grew older…
- Or he grew both older and turned into an adult...
- Well, he might have become an adult without growing older, or he might have grown older without turning into an adult yet… But he was pretty tense while skating this. It’s as if he’d been trying to prove a point. Perhaps, to himself in the first place that he shouldn’t relax now and fight right till the end. Well-done, he was great, he’s a stunning skater in every respect.

Part 2.

- The audience want him back on the ice, of course.
- Yes, he’s a super-talent. He’s 19. He won the Junior World Championship in 2010. He was… how old was he then?.. then he was 15. He won a Bronze medal at the world championship, but this year was his absolute best – he won grand Prix Final, the Olympic Games and World Championship. So a fragment of his SP, Parisian Walkways. Music by Gary Moore.

- That was the ending worth a true champion! He looks tired, of course, he does! This has been an extremely difficult season. He thanks the audience and he thanks the ice.
- And now he’s calling the other skaters onto the ice to join him! The finale!

I did a reverse search, here's part 2 ;) Go, go, Fay! :D
Thanks for the translation! What interesting musings by these two commentators XD I just read something where the journalist referred to him as peter pan ^|^

Lol, what's that site about anyway? It seems to be a mish mash of many things, based on the picture links.

It seems a place where some people (most probably, accredited journalists and photographers) exchange their personal opinions about anything. The last two pages contain qiute a lot about the Olympics and the worlds. :) It feels like reading something personal, really.

This picture's just wicked!

If he gets the 4Lz competition ready for next season I doubt he is going to put it in the short, it is too big of a risk. He has said that the reason he is putting the 4Lo in sp this year (which is pretty early since it is his first season with the jump) is because he wants to get it ready for next season, so to get milage. I also don't think he needs it in the sp, the BV difference is not that big and it is better to go for higher GOE.

Edit: 4Lo combo maybe, depends if he has been practicing it. From what I've heard I think edge-combos are considered more difficult generally than toe-jump combos...

Wow, never seen that one before! And I've seen a lot of PW photos...

He looks really good in that blue with his hair and skin tone. I love that costume, one of my favourites.

Yep. But I think Jeff is more accommodating to Yuzuru than, say, someone like Lori or Dwilson would be. From Yuzuru and DW interview I get that impression, at least (he changed Chopin's choreo like more than 3 times for Yuzu maybe lol). For Seimei and HnL, Yuzu chose the music, but for PW and LGC, it was not chosen by him. I think Chopin was chosen by Jeff too, Yuzu just said he wanted to skate to Chopin and Jeff picked the piece? I think LGC story was similar, that he wanted to try something but it was Jeff who picked the music?

Jeff actually fits Yuzu because he is a technician as well, I remember if it was not DW, it was Brian who said this in an interview. In a sense, he understands that programs need to rake up points and not just for the sake or "artistry", but at the same time he does not want to sacrifice artistry for points. Backloading 2 jumps in SP at PW was the testament of how well he understand and utilize CoP imo.

And another picture of Yuzu making up evil plan of world domination...

His cuteness is his deadliest weapon!

So with that I go to bed and hope to feature him in my dreams. The closest I ever got to was dreaming about sitting in an arena waiting for his performance. Of course, I woke up earlier than it happened - just of sheer excitement. Tried falling asleep again - but no, apparently, I was only sold one ticket for one dream at a time. :bed:

Really? I think I dream about him every day. Actually last night I dreamt about Shoma. Don't ask me why....

well, well, well, some people are lucky! I only get very silly dreams with lots of cats. :)
Once i had a pretty intense dream and when i woke up my mom told me i kept hugging (more like crushing) Pooh and i was crying. IIRC i was dreaming that i got to meet him and i could hug him and i had to let go :sad4:
When I see pictures like this I always wonder: how the heck don't they fall down? Look at how inclined they are!
Physics?
