I feel like I've missed so much the past 3 days, sorry guys! Life's been so busy. Worlds is 10 days away now I can not wait!
I think time has ceased to have any normal meaning for me this holiday. Am traveling back from Paris to the Netherlands today, then traveling back and forth to Germany on Wednesday and Thursday, and leaving for Helsinki on Friday. Worlds feels like a million years away, but it is a week!
All this talk about Yuzuru skating to other music now makes me wish he would skate to some Kingdom Hearts pieces. Been crying my eyes out at the two concerts. So pretty and a piece like Destati would work really well, I think.
Haha, it is not weird at all actually. Most skaters started really really young and they would not have as diverse and extensive musical knowledge as the veteran choreographers. Young skaters also perhaps like to do a certain style/music choice that they like, but it probably won't suit them. It is better to explore as many style as possible when you are younger. Younger skaters also tend to be less aware about what judges like to see in a competitive program (remember when Brian reminded Elizabet that judges actually dislike too much tano/rippon?).
The most important thing is, imo, it is actually difficult to find musical piece that could be skated to. You need certain rise and fall, highs and lows, with highlight sequence that also needs to fit a certain time period. For example, it is better to skate the Stsq in the highlight part (look at Chopin, PW and LGC for example), but stsq needs about 30~50 s (it is very rare to find someone skate a stsq just for 30s though) it can't be longer or shorter. If you want to fit more elements to the music (like spins and jumps) it would be even more taxing. This is why most popular/contemporary song is not really a good choice to be skated to because they tend to be stagnant and have no build-ups (and also why there are things like warhorse, since they just have the perfect length and highlights to be skated to). The only way to "overcome" this is by doing mashup of several songs but horrible music cuts could really ruin a program. In that sense, I can see why coaches would not be too delighted if skaters (esp younger ones) choose whatever music they like. Besides, there is also ex where you can do whatever you want

I have been just listening to concerto for piano and orchestra No.2 by Rachmaninoff and imagining Yuzuru skating to it. It is well known music and may be considered even a warhorse but still...it has so many beautiful fragments to choose from. I think he likes skating to piano music.

Actually, Yuzu kinda makes me want to know how to edit songs because I'm a movie scores collector and I have a bunch of songs I want him to skate to but most of them needs to be edited since their duration is either too short or too long
I wonder if we can send him CDs too? In case I want to send them one day
