Daisuke talks about Yuzu 3-18 on Merenge no Kimochi (Meringue feeling? :o)
0:00-0:50

rough translations, maybe incorrect XD
0:10 - He's happy about this passing on to next generation (Hanyu), but when he was still competing, Yuzu was making progress in leaps and it shook/worried him.
0:38 - (Host: Even from perspective of pro skater, Hanyu is amazing?) In terms of technique, no one can win against him. Quality is high, jump quality is great, good at spins.
0:44 - You get the feeling he has mastery over this space, he has such powers.

Thank you for saying that, Dai. I feel the same way. In terms of overall technique, I think currently noone can beat him.

P.S : I love how they just randomly mentioned Yuzuru in different shows. There is almost a video every day where a show mentioned him. Relevant much.

That with him barely registering his presence on any media. :) Quite an achievement!

Because they work him into everything, even the mention about squid ink curry bread :laugh2: It's sold around Hanyu service area in Saitama ---> Hosts: Hanyu (feathers) = white imagery = Hanyu Yuzuru too = why black ?

I always get the feeling that Dai is not really a fan of Yuzu's style nor spirit. He respects him and praises his technique, but it is always said without enthusiasm (for instance he said that H&L felt a bit empty because of all the quads, I think)
And I've got the feeling that Yuzuru was never a fan of Dai either - of course he respects him but I guess Dai is not a good enough technician for him ?
It is completely understandable, they're very different skaters, different styles, opposite personalities, and you can tell that they have a very different idea of what a "perfect skate" would be. But it's just a bit disappointing for me because I love them both and would like them to be BFFs :)

Please help, I've tried to join the Yuzuru Hanyu International Facebook group twice and been rejected both times. Have I done something wrong?

I was rejected too, I guess it was because my facebook account is not really active ?

Though Yuzu does say he loved Johnny Weir's skating so I don't think it's all about being a "technician" for him. How many quads did Johnny ever do in competition? I feel like maybe one and it was two footed. I also wonder if the backlash Yuzu received for winning against Dai has something to do with it for him. Of course that wasn't from Dai, but from his anti-yuzu supporters. I'd love it if more fans were like us. I adore Dai and his contribution to the sport (though I'm more invested in Yuzu). He was the only podium spot place I was pleased about in 2010, lol.

This sort of reminds me about Sasha Cohen and Michelle Kwan. Nowadays they are asked about one another. It is very clear they weren't friends and probably never will be, but they try to word things cordially

At the Olympics or the Worlds?

You mean this one? https://www.facebook.com/groups/1610393525875114/
I don't even know they will reject someone who wants to join the group, I just clicked the "join" button and joined it.:scratch2:

Yes that's the one I wanted to join. When I clicked join it pended for ages and eventually I got rejected so I tried again but was rejected again.

It should be an error or sth. I've got accepted immediately. And admins are nice people.

Yes maybe. I would love to join the group though.

I was rejected too, I guess it was because my facebook account is not really active ?

Yes I rarely post things but mainly use it for private group chats so maybe that's why

I think he's not someone who talk about others passionately a la Oda. He talked about other more junior skaters like Shoma or Marin in a similar tone and manner, imo. It is very hard for someone like him to admit that the juniors (re:Hanyu) are better than him and that he was indeed feeling threatened/worried. But he did anyway and I respect him for that. Yuzu was never close to Dai to begin with, due to huge age gap and perhaps personality differences. I actually get the impression that Yuzuru was ever that close with any skater from Japan, outside shows or competitions. Maybe Oda? But he was not really a part of Chukyo gang or a Kansai gang too, so it's understandable.

Wasn't he close to Kanako?

^ I believe a few admins are members on this forum so if anyone is having trouble there, just post it here. :)

I wouldn't say they were close, more like they were comfortable around each other because they've been competing on the same level for so long. He probably gets along the best with Oda and Mura in TJ.

I have to say though I have a sorta unhealthy gossipy interest in how and what these two were and are feeling towards each other, I won't risk any conjectures. Things must have been pretty intense back then when they were fighting for No.1 spot in their team. No matter what they felt, they did behave admirably well towards each other.
They really don't have to be best friends. Respect will do. :)

Oh ok, isn't he also close to Ryuju? (But does he count as TJ? I don't think so)
