this post is a good complement, I find : http://yuzuruhanyuedits.tumblr.com/post/154791035628/part-i-jump-identification-part-ii-jump
ETA : Ah, sorry, the gifs were included in the first link. I'm still a bit sleepy. Just had my coffee, but the caffeine hasn't kicked yet it seems...![]()
Not that I am complaining, I'll do anything to see the golden boy but I hope I won't oversleep.
I have just realised that the 6.a.m. practice on Thursday is actually at 4.a.m. in my current timezone. I have forgotten that Finland is already GMT+2 hours and on Sunday the daylight saving time begins.
I hope Yuzuru will be in the last group and that would be still early enoughNot that I am complaining, I'll do anything to see the golden boy but I hope I won't oversleep.

Oh wait, DST is indeed coming this weekend. Will we lose or gain 1 hour? I always forget.
Depends on your definition of gaining or losing.
So if it's 4 where you live now, it's going to turn into 5.![]()

I always define losing 1 hour by the amount of sleep I get to have. So I'm losing 1h of sleep.![]()

Damn Boyang gets so highYuzu's 4S is the prettiest~ :luv17:
ETA: Shoma's pre-rotation is quite evident...

That's so interesting. I may pick up the book then if there's translations. It would be a lot of hard work for me to read it myself though gladiolusc is inspiring me to pick up Japanese again with her amazing translations.
I think Gachinski definitely felt the heat from Yuzu's competitiveness even if it may not have been directed at him specifically. I got that sense from his comments when he announced his retirement (translated here).
"For a long time I have been persecuted by injuries, I stopped. But I have to move on, and it’s time to finish my career and go in a new direction. I can say that my decision was easy enough.
And to those guys who now will fight at the Russian Nationals I wish luck and a lot of strength. To sustain what is happening at the international level in figure skating, you need to have steel nerves. Let it be no matter for what is Yuzuru Hanyu doing. This is the only way. – Gachinski said."
That's why I don't think Brian should have kept Nathan's SP score at 4CC from Yuzu. I believe he performs well when there is no place for fear.
EDIT: In hindsight, maybe it's really a blessing in disguise he lost 4CC. I don't think Yuzu is thinking of anything right now except winning lol.
Really no room for imagination. Here you can't help but look. And then feel bad because the pose with the "no, no, no" finger makes you feel like you've been caught staring lol.

this is a good post :3
yuzu likes to tap relatively lightly for toe jumps, compared to other skaters, I think for better flow and to lessen the impression of "Here I come, I'm gonna JUMP!"
I think using Yuzuru as an example to learn to differentiate jump is not really efficient. The way he does his jump sometimes is kind of unique compared to other skaters. His lutz does not really have that looooong setup, he barely slams his toepick on toeloop jumps etc.
I actually find the explanation on the loop jump really wrong and misleading on the GIFs you linked. For Yuzuru, since he is a CCW jumper, he takes off from RBO not LBO. You don't have to bend your left leg to a LBO to do a loop, that's just one of Yuzuru's way of doing it. What makes a loop jump, a loop jump, is that it takes of from RBO and land also on RBO for CCW jumper (or it takes off and land on the same foot, outside edge). If it takes off from different edge and different foot, it can't be a second-jump in a combo.
)Well, like I said, he makes adjustments to his toe jumps. We also had that long discussion a couple days ago about how his toeloop looks somewhat like a Salchow because of how lightly he taps. Then, about the lutz, is the long setup to the lutz really a must? It's maybe characteristic of how a lot of skaters do it. But is it really how everyone else does it except Yuzu?
What I would take from the explanation of the loop jump is what the beginning of the GIF highlights and what Chibura says--the general "X" shape the legs form going into take off--which is still a really good heuristic for recognizing the jump. I see how all the extra mention of the left leg, blah blah, in the GIF could be confusing though.

Of course yuzuruhanyuedits tumblr use Yuzuru as the example because they're a blog about him. So it is inevitable. :luv17: I really love their gif set.I think using Yuzuru as an example to learn to differentiate jump is not really efficient. Since lutz is counter-rotated, for some skater the long setup is necessary. It is just like the axel, most people need long setup too for 3A.
The thing is, the explanation is misleading because it kinds of imply Loop jump take off from LBO (from the gifset) which is completely incorrect. It is not even confusing, it is just.. incorrect? The explanation from Chibura is not wrong since it is said it took off from outside edge, which is true, but the GIF highlight the LBO as the takeoff edge and it's just not what a loop jump actually is? Jump that took off from LBO is actually salchow(of course we are talking abt CCW jumper here). Anna pogorilaya looks like she also crosses her leg before she does her 3Lz. But what differentiate a jump is actually the takeoff edge and whether it is toepick-assisted or not rather than these characteristics that differ from skater to skater

but it doesn't have anything to do with the harder-to-recognize jumps either.Of course yuzuruhanyuedits tumblr use Yuzuru as the example because they're a blog about him. So it is inevitable. :luv17: I really love their gif set.
Anyway, I don't think their explanation in the gif is too bad. They are trying to make it appeal to new fans, and most new fans would not understand what RBO or LBO is. What I like about the gifs is that they have figure image (like the X and the / \) with his body so it is easier for new fans to understand.
Anyway, aside from Axel, Loop is quite easy to recognize regarless of the different technique I think. In a class at our ice rink, most people can tell single Loop and double from the videos and the test by our coach.
It's the Flip, Lutz, Salchow and Toe loop they often mess up.

Loop, salchow and axel is completely different imo. So I think most won't have a hard time distinguishing it. I learned distinguishing F, Lz and T from a friend. She said just pay attention to the toepick foot and the landing foot. If the landing foot is the same as the toepick foot, it is either a Lz or a Flip, if it is different, it is toeloop.I was just editing my postand you beat me to a reply. I concur about the inaccuracy of implying characteristics as definition, but as heuristics I think that X is still useful.
I find my personal heuristics for quickly identifying during competitions, and not really definitional, to be in this order. (forward vs backward)--->(toe vs edge)----> (edge: / \ for salchow and X for loop) (toe... is just toe... flip goes along the curve, lutz goes against)

I notice that this topic comes up every month on my twitter and weibo feeds, which consist mostly of Yuzu fans
So they'll decide to buy something, and then another magazine announcement would come out saying XXX number of Yuzu pages! Yuzu cover! Everyone dies a little. Hehe.

Right now I'm obsessed with photos where he's otherwise super cool, but POOH is in the picture somewhere XD

is there an efficient way to identify jumps. I feel like at the moment I can only accurately tell triple axels (or not)![]()
this is may or may not be a post to increase my post count.

I don't know why, but instead of enjoying the purple pants of sin, all I can think of is wondering how he achieved the no panty line look in that skin tight getup. Serious how?
