Is my understanding correct that when Eteri had been asked (around 10:35-11:00 min) if she is keeping Medvedeva away from 3-3-3 -(3). She replied, that it is actually the Federation (I guess the Russian) last time strictly forbidden her to do it again?

I thought the state of Russian ladies' skating was great until I watched junior worlds. It's probably just bad luck this year though. I know there are many young skaters up and coming.

I've long been perplexed that none of the top Russian ladies are balletic, despite Russia's long and rich history of being a ballet powerhouse. Med, Pogo, Zagitova, Tukt, etc. all would benefit from taking some ballet classes.

beauty ? posture ? extensions? For me, Evgenia is pretty balletic. Excellent posture, what made her skating look even more effortless and beautiful, good hands and movements.

or.... Have you ever seen Anastasia Gubanova? Watch her GPF FS or SP.

I just can't wait to see my favorite novice Alexandra Trusova on JGP. (i hope she will get spots) This girl is amazing.

Yes ... Medvedeva still looks juniorish in my general impression. It does not translate to component scores though at all but she ticks off the boxes for that to be fair.

Okey. Agree to disagree. Because everything you said I can easily see in Evgenia. And I don't find her skating "juniorish". or... Are you talking about her "juniorish" face? Then its kind of meaningless. What is aesthetically pleasing and beautiful is more subjective opinion than objective fact.

One think I like is how different Russian girls are! Different looks, different styles of skating. Anna, Evgenia, Lena, Liza. Every single one of them is totally different. I like it.

The federation made a risky move imho with that team, but still they have the current JW champion so it's not all that bad.

Polina was injured all season and they decided to trust Valentina Chebotareva (considering what she did with Kolyada) sending Stanislava at JW, but there were better skater than her at Junior Nationals.

I'm quite sure they have had ballet classes - even Kovtun and Radionova have. But taking a few ballet classes doesn't make everyone a ballerina and not everybody aspires to look like one. And maybe they just don't have the time for more with all the other training they do. Most of them are at the rink from early morning to late evening already. I don't think every non-Russian skater looks like a ballerina either, so I don't know why you assume the Russian girls all should.

This is why I love Maria. She's not especially fierce or powerfully interpretative, but I love how she moves.

The Japanese girls on a whole are very refined and polished skaters, do not having time is not an excuse. You would think that given skating has a high artistic element to it, the Russian skating schools would borrow from Russia's famed ballet schools. Heck, most dancers, regardless of style, study ballet foundations.

No one said anything about Med's face. Med's movements are often times sloppy, loose, and rushed, and betray a lack of body awareness. Just look at her twirls and the way she holds her arms in them. Any amateur ballerina would display much more control and extension in their arms during twirls. Or look at moves where she lifts her legs. The body isn't centered during such moves and she's contorted at a strange angle.

Lines, extension, carriage, posture are objective things.

That is not the case, the selection of the junior team got very political. The PCS was manipulated in favor of Polina and Stanislava - both were beaten in TES by more than two ladies. The rest of the field had their PCS kept down in favor of Polina in particular. The second highest score in ladies junior figure skating still belongs to Anastasia Gubanova, two Juniors are doing all of their jumps Rippon style and so on. The only limitation in Russia is who gets selected for the team - political choices or those that are skating well at the moment. If there was a Junior Euros then they would have been able to remove a few from the team before Worlds.

I found her skating very polish, emotional, finesse, every movement is elegant and graceful. Pretty balletical for me.

It would not be Figure Skating if we were not arguing at all and everyone perceived skating in the same way & appreciated it in similar measure As far as ''Balletic polish & finesse'' we consider I'd place her much below skaters like Mao, Carolina or Satoko, in fact class below these three.


As for Medvedeva, she's polished in all-around matters but I'd not call her the most polished skater.
