I'm trying to be a bit optimistic and putting things into perspective: though I would very much also like a hug after today...

- After his 4cc free skate he learnt that he probably can pull of a 5quad long, I remember him commenting on it and mental confidence is important for the future.
- He might need the 4S+3T, he started doing it because of his injury right? And I remember reading that he took quite awhile to start practicing 4T again, so doing the 4S combo seems to have been important for not risking his body. Getting milage on it can be very important going forward. Yes it is really frustrating I feel you all, but it is good that he is being careful with his body.
- Better make mistakes now than next season right? Of course the best would be that he never made mistakes and obviously it is no guarantee that he is going to do better next year just because he is not doing great now, but no one at the kind of level that he is skating at can be perfect/close-to-perfect all the time. He himself said about the 4L to Brian that he rather make the mistakes now.
- He still has the highest free skate and short program scores ever and the best free skating score for this season (second in short I think?), which I think does reveal how great he has actually been skating
- Yuzuru started properly training 2 months behind everyone else and he is still skating this great
- Despite the mistake he skated fantastic, he is in great shape so hopefully that bodes well for Saturday
- He is practicing the 4Lz and 4A seemingly, going by reports, doing fairly well on them. We will almost definitely see 4Lz next season, and with that it will be difficult to out-BV him

Sorry for long post :palmf:, just wanted to externalise a bit. I'm just very impressed with him. He came off a horrible injury, started training late, made his programs more difficult (without perhaps due reward at times...I mean he works so hard for the GOE and PCS while others do not seem to need to, judges be strange) and he has still been doing amazing stuff on the ice :)

How many practice sessions he will have before LP? 2 or 3? Tomorrow practice will be?

There are 3 practices, all in the PR. Tomorrow at 13.15 and 17.40 Helsinki time and on Saturday at 9.10 (these are the last group practice times).

I totally agree. Troubles now are better than troubles next season.
I just started smiling thinking at how this H&L will be. He has great motivation. He will be at most determined. Nothing to lose. Everything to gain.
I think Yuzu will be amazing:cheer:
(And if not, everything will be fine anyway. )
GO YUZU!!!!!!! :hap85:

:ghug:
I wish, oh how I wish!

If the problem was only mental, I'd definitely agree. But I'm not sure how easy it is to change his program to do a 4T3T where his 4S3T is and how that'd match the music, which is another big issue of him failing that combo there.

If I were Yuzu, I will not water down, because it will be psychologically fatal.
E.g.
If tech is watered down and I win, I will question my current path of pursuing higher tech difficulty and ask myself if what I am doing is right and whether my previous path of pursuing higher tech is wrong and my credibility (to others) and faith (in myself) in advocating the pushing of frontiers will be cast in doubt. I will also result in a 'backlash' because I just said that I watering is not my style.

If tech is watered down and I don't win, I'll have regrets because I can't even handle the watered down one. Also, my pride as one of the skaters on the frontiers of the sport will come back to break me psychologically. Also, where do I go on from this point? I have sacrificed my previous path for this, yet I still can't win. Lots of turmoil.

If I don't water and I win, best thing.

If I don't water and I don't win. Meh abt not winning, but I have fresh issues to continue working on. I have motivation. My pride is a bit bruised by the loss, but I did my best to deliver my ideal skate.

Although four of my five favourite skaters did great, somehow I cannot rejoice yet
And in a sense, he did great, that program was so awesome !
Figure skating is a tough sport :(

thanks for this post. It's very easy to forget how much work is put into those programs and that he's far from having a disastrous season. It gets really dramatic when he doesn't get the results everyone expects but he is doing well. Of course this competition is more important since next season we'll have Olympics, but nothing is ever decided.

Ok, I finally rewatched the SP a couple of times. I feel like the 3A should've gotten a higher GOE. But on the upside, the Pooh rain always kills me

And those 30 seconds........................... :sad21:
Like the judges finally had an excuse, they waited so long for, to bring him down.:dev2:

He won't change it. It's who he is.

Honestly ... at this point ... why isn't Kikuchi-san voodoing his protege's legs the way he is everyone else? What is this shoddy work?? He is slacking! *taps foot*

What can one say? Unlike some people who have cushions the size of buffalos, he has to be basically foot perfect all the time. And you know, Olympic pre-season, all kinds of shenanigans. :dev2: But he wants to keep challenging it, he knows he's that good and what can one do but believe in him. :drama:

Interview after the SP. Of course he's kuyashii and wants a perfect FS... (You enjoyed it? Really?)
Also, that "maa, ano..."after they ask him what performance he wants to give (?) In the FS, he sounded like he was going to break down and cry...

This is so heartbreaking... I can't help thinking about how he had nightmares of silver medals for a months after Boston. No. What would it be like for him now... No. No. Someone please stop my mind from thinking. But is there anyone who could stop him from thinking? I hope Tracy and Brian know what would help...

Sometimes it's true that not caring too much about winning is the key to win. But with Yuzu, you just can't help but admire his incomparable courage to care so much, to show it all to the world, to leave himself with no turning back. That might not be the smartest strategy toward competitions, but is what makes him an inspiration and a legend.

I'm being so blue here. But there is still Hope & Legacy, in many senses. Sleep well, Yuzu, and skate to make yourself smile.

Well that didn't work out, but he's a fighter. No doubt he'll work on doing his best for the FS! If he wins we'll rejoice, if not we'll deal with it and move on. He needs all the support he can get, and we'll cheer for him as always.
Go Yuzu! :cheer:

:sad21::sad21: I just came home from work and I'm heartbroken. It really makes me sad watching him so disappointed with himself.
About the program, he almost got that combo:cry: And he sold it like fire, I loved it. He added some choreographic touches that were :luv17: And the spins were faster than ever.
I'm not okay with his GOE, that 4Lo and 3A deserved +3 but judges:palmf:
I'm sure that this will motivate him even more and we'll see a beautiful H&L, he has nothing to lose. Cheer up Yuzu, you're still the best for me.

I don't mind mistakes now if it means he will do well Olympic season, but I'm worried about whether his PCS will take a hit or not if he doesn't podium here
