Ugh please help tomorrow's the last day of school and there are no lessons so I should be over the moon but here I am more depressed than ever

He's doubting his abilities? Oh my god.

B.Esp wasn't so negative. But they did change from "finest skater ever" to "finest skater of the last few years"

I don't want to hear what they have to say about the others, though.

He always blames to himself, like usual. It is very frustrating to be trapped by the same issue over and over again, and I wont be surprised if judges and the fed feel the same way. It is his decision to not make any changes, then he's gonna take responsibility for that. Let's face the truth, the room for him to make mistakes is nearly non-existing right now, even when he goes clean.

Yeah, he's not benefitting from consistency bonuses anymore.

It's ridiculous how they hold him up to such a high standard compared to the others. (And I keep thinking... Maybe they're going to get the WR away from him? Ugh why are they being so exigent with him?!)
Still, no matter what, to me he is the best. Scores don't always show that. (In general, not just skating!)

I'M BACK.

I'm glad that I didn't just check the ISU results and actually read the discription of the program he did at the competition thread while at the bus, placements give a completely different impression of what actually happened.

Anyway, the expected conclusion at this point would be that Javier is obviously the most likely to win the World Title HOWEVER, Men's FS nowadays 90% of the times gives you the unexpected. A 10 points gap in a time where a men's free skate program can score above 200 points, giving that the difference between medal colors and a win can be less than half a point, means that if he still ends up out of the podium, which I find unlikely actually but that's me, he has only himself to blame as it is in any other close competition. So I don't get the gloom. I wonder if he was in 2nd and around 10 points down from first, ex. like Javier after the SP at Worlds 2016, the response would be different. ;)

Making up for it, of course, is still not an easy task, since all of them have chances of going nearly clean, and ultimately score above 200.

The starting order is again a pain but that's life and you have to deal with it.

Gold is always my optimal result for him obviously but above all I just want a great H&L, really. The judges could invalidate his steps, forget to score all his triples/quads, put him in 24th, and I wouldn't care. k i'm exaggerating but you get the deal

TL;DR We Shall Believe.

Also, I just want to laugh at the people shocked that Javier pulled together after an underwhelming season. I mean, really? Who didn't see that coming has selective memory. I'm recalling the discussion that happened about this here. :laugh2:

Anyway, Patrick's program remains my only full glory at this event till now, since I'm not really a Shoma uber. We also shall believe in Boyangman.

Would post this at the competition thread but I'm in no condition to watch everything now so this ended up too Yuzuru centric. He is an exception. LOL

Historically he was always better at skating the long; I could recall he said sometimes he felt even more tired to skate the short when he was really nervous. Let's say what's going to happen in the free this time.

Evgenia Medvedeva is consistent. None of the men are consistent. Patrick, Javi and Shoma make plenty of errors regularly. Boyang and Nathan don't have everything under control either. The "Yuzu is more inconsistent than others" myth is a perception problem.

I have just got back from arena and I am all empty, despite mistake I felt the performance was the best this season, i can't help but still mourn about that combo, why you have to be that stubborn Yuzu, and yep I also feel that JSF backs up shoma more now because Yuzu is having pretty inconsistent season. Whatever happens I'll keep supporting him, sadly he never gets as much love from judges as others now 😑

Ahh :ghug: I hope you guys there managed somehow! He was still great, even with that dratted combo!

Well lets be honest here. JSF is not backing Yuzuru, they're full on pushing Shoma. There's not much to be done about that. Even the location of the Worlds and all the European judges, they're just another issue that is exacerbated by lack of Fed help.
But, but! They can all just toddle off! The fed, JSF, everyone. It's bad now, it'll be worse next season.

Fingers crossed he can skate cleanly on Sat because it'll be a nice boost for him, mentally and in general, for next season. But primarily, mentally. He should never doubt himself, never. I get so angry, for him. Gah. So I hope that focused, fierce samurai he has within himself comes out to play on Saturday and shows everyone why he is who he is. I don't care if he wins with that. I just care that he shows what he obviously needs to show, which is his full abilities, in order to feel at peace.

And I don't want to say what else I'm thinking because really, not pretty

I feel sad reading that. Like they're giving up on him... He should know that at least we will never give up on him...

And it's a perception problem that leaks into the judging. In what world would Javi's 3A be a +3 and Yuzuru's not? Somehow the expectation is always that Yuzuru should perform, whereas Javi comes in as an underdog each year and the judges are absolutely delighted and over the moon for his "perfection". The concept of "clean" as applied to Yuzuru is also different from other people's "clean". One of the Japanese headlines from his practice this morning was "Couldn't land a single 4Lo... worrying adjustment". Oh yeah? Except the ones that he did land?

So, generally speaking, JSF, Fuji, Japanese media, ... not that kind. It's why I appreciate the likes of Nobu and Shuzo-san

It doesn't make sense that JSF will stop backing him. When Yuzuru was Shoma age he was already Olympic Champion, and this season the one who got better results when they competed together is Yuzuru...
Now I'm thinking about him being disappointed and saying this "I have a lack of abilities:palmf:" kind of things. This time he really needs Tracy and Brian attention, they have to show him that nothing is lost yet.

I feel very angry for him. Is there any other skater now who is this loved and this worthy of adoration? Even with all this politiking business and dubious judging and what not. I know to him it may sound like making excuses, but honestly scores are scores and performance is performance. This is a judged sport, scores - they can be manipulated, bought, or sold. But what you leave in the minds of your audience, it's the real thing. I hope he doesn't doubt himself, put out that fighting spirit, and slap a few (a lot) of faces.

edit: avatar change to combat negative energy of willfully blind individuals and groups.

They said they learned about last years experience. I'm sure he will get the support he needs right now.

^^
Hydro, yes, I am sure they will. Brian would still be torn between the two of them though so it's great luck Tracy is here. Yes, she has Dylan and Liubov but luckily, they've just finished for the championships so good for Yuzuru.

Yes, well. He's not the Heir Apparent, now is he? He's never been. And this is hardly the only thing they did or do :gaah:
Ticks me off so badly.

Phew, it's been a long day and I urge anyone who hasn't dared to rewatch the performance to go and rewatch it now. Honestly, I think that it's the best performance of LGC this entire season even if there was a big flaw. Everything else was beautiful and flawless. He really put in a lot of effort to engage the crowd throughout the entire performance and given that connecting with the crowd was one of his goals with this program the start of the season, I can safely say that he has achieved it spectacularly. It must have been amazing to be in that audience and those of you who watched it live are so lucky!

About scoring, I think it was fair and the placements was only due to the others outperforming their usual standard and Yuzuru not doing his best. It was a costly mistake pointswise and nothing can be done about that. Everyone has upped their game so there is no margin for error. Also, I hope that he realises what the deduction was for now and doesn't make the same mistake in the free. It's a stupid change to reduce the time for the first skater just for TV but it is what it is and he learnt something here.

Right now I'm just hoping that he doesn't overtrain in the next few practices and really trust himself and what he's done to prepare. There is no room for doubts and that is really one of his biggest weaknesses right now. He has done so much physically to catch up after the injury that it's all just mental now and I hope being in the chasing position will fire him up the right way after sleeping off the disappointment from today!

As I said, being present today I could only feel positive, but the thought did flit across my mind that JSF has switched to backing Shoma.

There are some reassuring precedents. WC 2012 and 2014 were clutch performances when his back was to the wall. I may feel sick with the intensity of the situation on Saturday.

That is my biggest fear. I don't want what happened to Gracie Gold to happen to Hanyu! But I can see the JSF supporting Shoma more if Shoma makes the podium and Hanyu doesn't.

Actually it makes lots of sense for JSF to back Shoma more. Yuzu has been talking about retirement after 2018 ever since Sochi, and likely he wont stay in the sport for too long anyways. JSF needs another leading role in men's filed to compete with the rest, and what they have learnt is to back your skaters in the early phase so it will be more easily accepted by the world as idealy skaters will grow up to match up with the scores; by then, all will be forgiven.

 Guys, when I am not panicked and not mad you guys expect Yuzuru to do well in LP. I think Nathan will do well LP too btw.

Yuzuru will win WC. Take my words for that.

For some reason I feel the same . He does well in the FS when he's behind on the SP. Fights for absolutely everything. The question is...4 quads or 5?? What kind of YOLO quad will we see if he does one???

I will happily stop following figure skating and the horrible judging when yuzu decides to leave, but the one thing I will never give up on is yuzu, is when he goes through those bad moments that he needs the most support, and I know he will do amazing in the free program:luv17:

When Yuzu decides it's time, I'm sure a lot of people are going to go with him and leave this joke of a sport
