How do you know the severity of the injury is the same? I had a broken arm once. The person in the emergency room next to me had a broken arm as well. However, my arm was only broken in one place, whereas his was broken from the shoulder, and in two places. So we both had the same injury--broken arms. But his was way more severe than mine.

I do know, and so do everyone, that her severity is not nearly as bad as Eric's. She was able to hit her personal best while injured. And repeated it again at national. Eric was a mess here.
Your case and her case are very different. And that has always been my point. How do people know she will not be able to walk and her teammates competing here will be able to walk down the line?
Look, just because her team pulled her out doesn't mean her injury is more severe. Again, it's always the risk tolerance for each person.
You can go back and see different persons deal with injury differently. Some girl wouldn't even skate because she had a toothache, and she didn't even have to do any jump or throw. Some would skate even with broken tibia. Just because the medical team of one girl said she can't compete doesn't mean the severity is worse. People quickly assume that satoko's team pulled her out because she won't be able to walk and I said nonsense to that.

It doesn't matter now, because Japan has 2 spots for the ladies. Next season they will have to perform consistently, even Marin, because they need to send their best. I have a feeling there will only be one Russian on the podium and she might not even win, if the Korean Fed is petty enough.
Let say the following scenarios play out next year
1. Mai. 2. Satoko. 3. Marin 4. Kaori
1. Kaori 2. Satoko. 3. Marin. 4. Mai
1. Kaori 2. Wakaba 3. Marin 4. Mai

Many many more combinations. Guess what? None of the olympians will be Satoko and Wakaba.

Definitely agree. With only two spots, theybreally need to pick their two best skaters who consistently (the key word) deliver under pressure (another important key word here) which is or should be the most important criteria, in my opinion. Having a great talent is not enough (no doubt the selected skaters in the national teams will definitely be talented). They definitely need to show that they do not break down that easily under pressure next season, even though anything unpredictable can still happen in the Olympics, the best that they can do is to play the safest cards that they can (at least in my personal opinion).
Time for some rest before getting back on the ice. All the best for Satoko, Mai, Wakaba, Marin, Rika and there rest of the skaters.

Not trying to be the rain in your parade, but if Marin or Kaori doesn't deliver in their senior competitions, none of the Olympians will be Marin or Kaori too. Anything can happen next season, it's not fixed in stone yet at this point. It might be like what you said or it could be a completely different stories. So far, I have seen Satoko and Mai with the potential, but will I judge that they will go? Not until I see their performances next season. Although I wish Satoko will go, with her track record, but Until next season (likely nationals) , everything still up in the air.

Marin is locked. At the end of the season, with Satoko out injured, considered all the results, Marin is now Japan #1. You can't have Satoko as #1 anymore if she can't even walk. Doesn't matter what she did 2 months ago. Satoko, forgoing her spot on the world team, is now jockeying for #2 position along with mai and kaori.
Wakaba is DOA. She's not in the running anymore.
Mao, legendary Mao, is also out of the running.

Anyway, ah well done Mai. Now how about that skate? She gave it her all and how that paid off. As I said in the comp thread, hopefully she isn't going what if in her head but is fully enjoying her skate and is now happy. Also hopefully there's not too much pressure on her and she continues to evolve naturally. I don't think any kind of 'heavy' music suits her and there are many pieces where she can show how she's advancing without going into any warhorse or heavy land.
Wakaba is going to have a tough time, if she'd been clean, it would have been enough but first year senior and she did well. Overall it was JSF's problem that they didn't plan on it and left it so late. She should continue the work on that 3A, it may prove crucial.
I hope Rika can recover and return to competition. It's a shame about the 2, it is going to be a very tough year and all the ladies will have to do their best on the GP circuit first. The experience Mai and Wakaba got here will count for much, along with of course Satoko and the big question mark of how healthy can Mao get, and more importantly, can she be consistent because the judges have shown this year that without that, they are not going to award her high scores. Plus of course, the newcomers who are going to have to go through the good old rep building, and of course, that will require consistency too plus time. It'll be interesting to see how it all evolves next season.

This World Championship was so horrible for me personally. Japan losing the third spot and Anna bombing - a real nightmare. So it's going to be two....two out of so many good and hopeful ladies. Although she's not my favourite I think Mai has very good chances. She and Satoko, if she's healthy again. Let's see what Marin and Wakaba can do next year. But for me personally it would be horrible to leave Mai at home. She was the only japanese lady who delivered at Worlds, and she was under a lot of pressure in her debut.
A lot of heart break next year. Get your tissues early.
I want to see Marin and Mai at the Olympics now. The others? I don't care too much for them after this season. JSF has a new top 5 finisher moving forward. Satoko, thank you for your service. You can take another year to heal.

Imho. It's too early to say who's "locked" for the Olympics. Instead of flat out saying that Mai, Satoko, Wakaba, and Kaori are fighting over 1 spot, let's consider the possibility of Marin (who seems to be praised as the best thing since sliced bread on this forum) not doing well on her debut Grand Prix and underperforming at Nationals. All 5 of these skaters will be fighting for the two spots. Marin may have a media push but she doesn't have as much experience compared to Satoko, for example.
The point is, we simply don't know what may happen in the coming months. Wakaba could polish her 3A. Satoko might retire. Marin could add loop combos. Even Mao could come back at full strength for all we know. It's wayyyy too early to say that some girls have 0 chance of being on the Olympic team, and that others have 100% chance. We have a whole Grand Prix series to go through and another Nationals, not to mention the many months between then and now.
On Worlds:
Mai did well, her spin levels improved to all level 4 compared to mixed level 3/level 4 at 4CC. With a new program, I think her PCS has potential to rise. Even though she skated in the 2nd group, her PCS is not too far behind Karen or Maria. Her technical score is actually better than both Kaetlyn and Gabby, second only to Evgenia (!!!). With StSq4 and different choreo, she can really be a challenger. If we take her 4CC SP and Worlds FS, we get 204.8: not shabby at all. Her SP is really what lets her down in score: she's 14th best FS but yet to crack 70 points in SP.
Wakaba
If she went clean, she could have pulled it off (65.87 SP + 129 FS (TEB) = 194.87, ahead of Ashley and enough for 5 (Mai) + 7) but the popped 2Lz let her down. I admire her guts in the last minute 2A+3T. Her PCS is actually very close to clean Mai.
Rika is injured so I wasn't expecting much. No edge violation on the 3Lz so good for her.

I have so many feelings and emotions from following the FS yesterday and all I can say is that if JFS gets their s*** together and lobby behind the right skater next year, Japan will definitely have an olympic medallist or champion. The ball is really in JFS's court now.
Just wondering, did you think the wrong skaters were sent this year?

I was initially angry at JFS, but then again, I thought more about it and what other choices do they actually have? I love Mao, but she's injured. Satoko, too, is injured, although I would say if JFS had guaranteed her a spot if Japan could get 3 spot, she would have taken it up. Its unfortunate, really.
Any other year, even with these skaters, they could have probably still qualified but this year, competition was stronger, inflation is higher, and the skaters JFS supports do not align with those the international judges support. To put it more bluntly, they were technically a 3F and a 3Lz away from 3 spots...

No, she wouldn't have. She's not waiting for special treatment, she was practicing for Worlds for "free" until a week before the competition. JSF is notorious for sugarcoating their skaters' real health condition.
