* Greatest of all time :) but yeah it's a pretty terrible acronym.

So long hair and happy coach is Yamada or Higuchi? That's a shame he won't keep his long though. Such a great program

That's Higuchi....thanks for the clarification. GOAT indeed...haha. Idk about his long, I just assume they won't use it for another season. I love LOCO now and I'm going to miss it, but I want to see something new in the Olympic season. We just discussed this in another thread, but I also believe it's kind of lazy to repeatedly use the same program. And I think the judges like different things too!

video about Shoma and Yuzu includes interviews, the hug, Shoma watching Yuzuru's performance and scores while warming up (which makes him 100% more scary), 4Lz attempts (with a massive change of edge but honest tries tbh) etc etc https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5h1xuc_yuzuru-shoma_sport

Hi, im on the way to my home. Still I feel like im in a dream!
I want to share some information and reports with you tomorrow!

Btw, today I saw daisuke and shoma at the airport. They walked freely! I said to shoma just congratulations, but leave daisuke so as not to bother him. They talked together with kikuchi san and ms. Kobashi of jsf!

Oh! Lucky you to see Dai and Shomita. I was keeping my eyes open in hopes of seeing skaters. I saw some Italian skaters but couldn't remember who they were!...Sad that it's all over. I bought my tickets in June so have been thinking about this for a long time!...Hope you had a safe trip. From hotel to my house almost 19 hours, so I am SO glad to be home. Can't wait to see your photos and read your thoughts!

I've taken a bit of a break from most of GS the last few months due to my health (finally recovering!) and wanting to just watch FS without reading all the carping, but I have read this thread regularly and I've enjoyed Worlds enormously!

Shoma was amazing. I've just written a long post about how much I loved him and his performances in the FS thread. I am so proud of him and I hope he can have a bit of a break to refresh because he has worked sooooo hard this season. Silver medalist, Shoma Uno! Wow! What an achievement!

The fact that he medaled at every comp he entered this season is really remarkable.

So glad to see you back The Grand Sophy. Hope you are feeling better now. Can't wait to read your FS post...It is truly amazing that our Shomita medaled at every competition. If I counted correctly, since Lombardia he won 9 medals--5 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze. Some of them were winning ugly, but nevertheless were wins...Can't wait to see what he has in store for us next year!

Hope you had a pleasant flight back home! Take your time to recover - we can wait for your reports until you've come back to reality. ;)

Aaaah, thank you for this tidbit, hamaguri! Dai might've been happy to know he's still being recognized, if you had greeted him. :)

Honestly I hope that the hype around Shoma will never reach Yuzuru's level, so that he can live a normal life and walk around without being stalked.

There's certainly going to be an increased public interest in the freshly crowned world silver medalist, but for some reason I don't think Yuzu's popularity will be replicated by anyone soon. I guess it was such a unique combination of circumstances and factors, that played into the hype. Well, and if it happens, Shoma has a great supporting team to shelter him from harm hopefully.

I don't think he will keep them. Fluffy (Mihoko Higuchi, his stylish coach, usually travels with him to the competitions) usually chooses and choreographs Shoma's program, I guess with help from Yamada (his coach from home). Shoma's still at a stage where he trusts , and does what they tell him to do, program-wise. I hope they will choose something funky, like his SP from last season and one more classical program.

Don't think he's going to keep his programs either, especially now that he's one of the big players, even if the decisions still largely lie with his coaching team. I'm sure they'll start brainstorming soon. I'd be thrilled, if he tried another different style - sth. weirdly unique (like "Legends"), which helps him stand out even more.

Several great moments in there, thx for sharing the link! How was he so unfazed by watching Yuzu and seeing his massive score come up? These boys are riling each other up so much with the quad attempts - it's scary. Also, the first time I've watched his Worlds exhibition (yes, I'm lagging behind :rolleye:) and I'm blown away. His flight over the ice is almost unreal here. Guess, his SS are among the very best of the field indeed (maybe even 2nd to Patrick's).

Just dropping by for now to ask if there is interest in Dutch commentary translations (Eurosport and Dutch public telly) ? I still have a few days of vacation left, I can try and fit it in there somewhere. ;-)

I'm interested too, Winnie!

You've inspired me to translate the German Eurosport commentary for Shoma's FS by Sigi Heinrich and Hendrik Schamberger. ;) Here we go:

[when Shoma took to the ice]

S(igi): Shoma Uno, he hasn't joined the 300 club yet either. He'd have to surpass his former achievements as well.

[thankfully they stayed silent throughout the skate]

[after the skate]

S: A small Japanese as a big tango artist, Shoma Uno. And the quad fascination continues, dear audience. 120 points for technical elements, quad loop, quad flip, quad toeloop (on its own and) in combination and what satisfies the desires of the heart even more: everything was there - a great program brought onto the ice wonderfully.

H(endrik): He even gave away points with the fall on the Lutz and still achieved 120. Welcome to the club. He's going to join the 300 range next.

S: And Japan is setting the rhythm in men's figure skating right now. When we saw him for the first time a few years ago, we had a hunch that he'd become/grow up to be one to reckon with, but the pace with which this happens nowadays is what amazes all of us. You'd think it's still going to take a couple of years. (But) nope, it's happening at a moment's notice, not overnight, but from one day to the day after tomorrow. The boldness and the carefreeness - the carefreness, which at least seems to be present outwardly with Shoma Uno - is of course intensly fascinating as well.

120 TES...

H: Yes, awesome.

S: And with a mistake. The direction in which this is headed is impalpable indeed.

But everyone knows what's going to happen next year in Pyeongchang, dear spectators, at the Olympic Games you're going to be able to witness this development live and exclusively on Eurosport. All the guys know that the writing is on the wall. None of the aces is going to bring a meagre (little) quad jump [he used a minimization here "Sprünglein" - idk how to translate this]. Nope, the whole range [of quad jumps] has to be brought to the table.

[When Higuchi-sensei and Shoma bowed to the audience in the K & C]

No, not you. We're bowing to you, dears! That's the way to look at it.

19 years old, Shoma Uno. And now the ranking is going to be stirred up/whirled around. Hanyu stays ahead, Uno in 2nd. 214 points, my goodness, he has never achieved 200 points in a FS and which PCS does he need? ... 94 and he had 104,86 points in the SP. Insane! 319 points.

H: Now we have the situation, that the first two skaters are in a score-range, which Fernandez has never reached so far. Incredible pressure.

S: If he [Javi] ever had to overcome an extremely difficult situation, then it's the case here in Helsinki. Now that Hanyu and little Uno are ahead with 321 and 319 points. Uno almost even beat Hanyu. Just imagine that.

By the way, I'd be a very happy camper, if someone could translate any noteworthy bits of the FujiTV commentary. *puppyeyes* :)

Of course, that would be great Winnie! I hope you had a great time and thank you for always being fair and supporting Shoma as well as Yuzuru!
Ah, you're welcome! I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a team Japan fan. I love them all to bits. But Yuzu and Shoma are just dreamy. If I had more time, I'd hang out in this topic more, but I have like a gazillion hobbies outside of watching figure skating, and there's that pesky thing called work and real life, so... :-( But I can do some translations now, yay for extended vacation.

That is so cute.

I'm interested too, Winnie!
Sure thing! You'll forgive me if I go through the Yuzu ones first, but I'll check back with you all (not in the least because I haven't had a chance yet to find me some really gorgeous photos and videos of Shoma from this event, and I Need Them In My Life).

Sigi Heinrich, Hendrik Schamberger and Petra Bindl are big Shoma supporters, repeatedly compared him to Daisuke Takahashi, called him 'artist on ice' and predicted future World Champion titles and Olympic Gold for him. Feels good. (I still haven't forgiven them for calling Mao 'artificial' a few years ago, though...)

Ah, thanks, Arriba. I had an operation and am really much, much better now, thank you.

So glad you had such a good time! What an amazing comp you witnessed! That is what I find even more satisfying. It wasn't just a war of attrition with Shoma one of the few left almost standing. It was a genuinely amazing competition with so many brilliant performances and he WON that silver.

I love this! BTW, they are asked about their beautiful skins. Yuzu was asked that you are doing any facial pack and yuzu said no. Shoma also said he is scolded about it, but he doesnt! They make all the ladies feel envy them. lol

Lol. Bless him, he doesn't even use chap stick let alone face packs!

The fact he gives out gifts to the volunteeers hand made by his Aunt is so sweet. What a lovely family!

Become the goat? What does that mean? I don't want Shoma to turn into a goat! :(

I don't think he will keep them. I went to the small medal ceremony, the question was about if they had any music or program which they wanted to do next season. He replied right away he had nothing. Lol. He said as always he would just do what Mihoko-sensei or so would choose.

I could imagine they will get some more input from the outside this year, at least choreographically. I don't believe that Shoma will leave Japan, like Yuzuru did, but I think that there might be some changes for the Olympic season.

I think so. This season, he has two programs of EX by other than mihoko-sensei. This shows they are considering other coreographers in Olympic season. This season's EX was trial of that.
