Commentators:
Chen Ying - professional commentator whose expertise is in figure skating and gymnastics - she has been covering Figure Skating World Championships since 2005 (12 years!) and the Olympics since 2006 Turin. She is known for being very supportive of athletes, and has a literary style that, as we will see, becomes particularly inspired by Yuzuru's performances.
Pang Qing- former competitive pairs skater. With partner Tong Jian, she is the 2010 Olympic silver medalist, the 2006 and 2010 World Champion, a five-time Four Continents champion (2002, 2004, 2008, 2009 & 2011) and the 2008 Grand Prix Final Champion.
First up is the Sochi Olympic gold medalist from Japan, Yuzuru Hanyu. He is skating to Hope and Legacy and he plans to land 4 quads in the program.

Chen: It is often said that "striving, achieving, and maintaining success is one harder than the last, wrapping up on a high note being the hardest task of all." With a level of determination evocative of the fervent bloom of cherry blossoms, reigning Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu stands proud and majestic on the international stage time and time again.
Pang: We already felt it—he was the first to skate in this group, and already he has ignited the atmosphere in the arena. Yuzuru Hanyu is truly an athlete of the highest level! After having suffered no small setback in the short program, he gave a magnificent performance in his free skate. We have to say, there was not a single flaw and the program was perfectly complete. Congratulations to him!
Chen: Compared to the other three disciplines, the rise in difficulty along with the implementation of new rules in the men’s discipline has driven athletes to challenge themselves, such challenges unavoidably accompanied by all kinds of risks and uncertainty. Hanyu encountered the risks that came with challenging extreme difficulty in the short program, ending up in fifth place and had to skate first in this group. As we were watching his performance, both Pang and I were clenching our fists (sounding choked up here), and we both had tears in our eyes when he finished. Hanyu inevitably reaches and touches that tenderest place in you.

Pang: In slow motion, a pristine 4S3T! It should be said that Hanyu is especially adept at putting up a good fight in his performances, and the athletic spirit is realized to the utmost extent in him!
Just look at his eyes. No matter the frustration and setback he encounters... If you look at his appearance up close, he comes across as very delicate and pretty, but his mental strength is simply incomparable, a tiger prowls within him! He has withstood pressure in every major competition, and no matter how seemingly desperate—nay, hopeless to anyone else—the situation, he will rise to the occasion and prove himself, once again, at the top of the pack.

Chen: 223.20 points! Only Yuzuru Hanyu can break, time and again, the world record scores in the men’s. His own record scores, and not someone else’s! Is it sweat, or tears, on his face... he deserves everything! He is worthy of all that is beautiful and good, all glory and honor!
Pang: Congratulations! Congratulations to Yuzuru Hanyu, who once again rewrites his own world record.

I hope so, he deserves it more then anyone. I have found this article. Sorry if this was shared before. It seems that after the failed 3A at the EX finale fans were saying on Twitter it was a 4A attempt.

I wonder how much more height he might need to get enough airtime, Kurt Browing expected it should be around 8-10 cm only would do it. But can he? :think:
Lol ok, I didn't expect the korean version to be popular but sounds like it is?I think the song is almost too popular in Korea. There's a high chance you'll hear someone sing it when you step into a karaoke in Korea. It's in my personal Korean karaoke repertoire, too, so it would be funny for me to see Yuzu skate to it.

Judging from the latest interviews I have got the impression that he is not very sure about doing 4A in competitions ever. GPF interview seemed more optimistic regarding 4A. Or maybe he is just careful not to give false hope to his fans. I don't expect 4A anytime soon.

Miki said he saw Yuzuru practicing 4A, but she did not say that he landed them iirc. I also did not really remember Max saying anything about him landing it, just that it looks promising? He said Yuzu attempted 4A with good result, nothing about landing them (or if he actually fully rotate them).
It is a very difficult jump, if it is not difficult, we would have seen someone landed it already, but no one had done so, not even in practice. (Max aaron attempts are UR imo, he rotate after landing on the ice and also he is on a harness)
I think he might feel it may affect his 3A, or just that he realized it was too dangerous after actually practicing them, who knows? Or just that it is olympic season and he is trying to ensure everyone he won't do anything crazy

WaPo has three figure skating articles. Is this the twilight zone? My mom still gets the physical copies of the paper so I was checking them to see if they were printed there, but they weren't. This is better than nothing though.
So I have just calculated if judges didn't hold down GOE in Yuzuru's elements at WC by this http://fisk8-score-calc.herokuapp.com
His TES might have hit 130 had they didn't save the scores for later skaters.
So people saying he could have hit 230 had he skated last isn't too wrong.
But would 230 have been enough to catch Javi? I mean, they gave Javi a +3 for his first jump and with nearly the same content as Seimei I have a feeling they'd have given him Yuzu's free skating record (Though Yuzu would have won it right back if he skated how he did, but Javi probably would have had the overall record).
