A part of me does find this slightly worrisome because it seems to be a new ritual he has developed when he was saying at the end of the year he needed to get rid of some of those. I'm hoping he doesn't develop too great an attachment to this ritual because during the Olympics Pooh will probably not be there, if it's like Sochi.

He is so weird (in a good way) but yeah I'm agree with you.. How many rituals he does? As I see it was touching the ice when entering or exiting the ice rink, squish Pooh-san before leaving the ice, telling himself a word "dekiru (or something) ", doing sign like a cross at his body.. What else?

He shows his gratitude to the ice by touching it.
The sign of cross is to check his axis.
I noticed also that he often strecthes his back before leaving the boards.

Yep, and he no longer says Dekiru. That seems to have been a new ritual at the GP series that he hasn't repeated.

But his rituals of a long time have always been to shake hands with his coach and push off the board after squatting/stretching, the axis check, the praying motion and the ice touching. Now add the Pooh squeezing to the mix!

The -1 deduction in SP was partly Pooh's fault.

And also the both arms raised thing which I think started at NHK Trophy 2015 SP

As long as these rituals help him to calm down, concentrate and are not harmful pointwise I don't see why he should reduce them.

I am not really worried about these rituals because I know he is aware of them. He will make sure it will not affect him when it really matter.

Though I wonder if the thing with Pooh is a ritual or just an urge. Whenever I see something fluffy I always have the urge to squash it , so maybe he has the same issue with Pooh

I always thought if someone must know what it's like for Yuzuru, it's Mao. She was a young prodigy too with huge expectations on her shoulders. They didn't seem close but like they enjoyed each other's company still.

Also... Did Yuzuru lose fans after Boston? I remember when I first came on goldenskate at the end of 2015, the Yuzuru Hanyu fanfest was always the one at the top all the time, but now it's often down the list by five. I wonder if it's because there are less things to post because people don't talk about him as much, because there isn't much new content about him like shows and stuff, or because less people participate in this thread. It feels weird

People are still depressed after Boston + his injury; and there is barely any news about him until June/July. There is barely anything to talk about aside of frustration and worry over his condition, tbh.

I am new tone this forum, but this thread seems to be well ahead of all the others when it comes to newly added content each day

It's definitely an urge, even in the airport he couldn't help touching a Pooh that a fan was holding to welcome him.

Maybe this summer he will do some ice shows and the ninja mode will be more relaxed. And then maybe we'll be able to have news and videos about him and to discover one of his new programs earlier then last season when he was injured. Let's wait and see ...:agree: The thread surely will move faster!!
We are still the top of Fan fest!

Welcome!

This thread basically functions as the primary English-language Yuzuru Hanyu fansite, and given that he is the most popular skater in the world, whose popularity seems still growing, no wonder that the post count is large. Tumblr and Twitter can't quite replace a discussion forum so this is the place where fans from all over the world gather. As basically a fansite, it allows a wider range of topic and just sillly gushing and conversation than very focused threads about skating itself.

I don't know if he lost fans but it seems to me that this thread post count now is larger than it was before and after boston. This thread seems to be moving faster than ever. The reason why despite the huge post turnout Yuzuru's fanfest often features lower might be because the number of fanfests is growing as well and so there are more chances somebody else is being talked about as well.

I am sure true fans will never abandon him. But after Boston there weren't much news to talk about. I started lurking here at that time, so I remember that some days this thread didn't move at all. But since this season started it is almost impossible to catch up  And more then 4000 pages speak for themselves.

Yes, if this thread has slowed down that noticeably, I wonder how badly off other threads are!

Speaking of fanbase growth. Yuzuru Hanyu International Fan Group on Facebook (YHIFG) had about 4000 members at the beginning of this season and now has about 10000 or more.

Tbh many fans joined because of YOI, but some of them stayed because of Yuzu I guess.

I found Yuzuru through YOI, but after the anime ended I completely peaced out of that particular fandom and came to join the FS one. I found out I prefer the real thing. And Yuzu (among others) was a big reason for me staying.
