(Hi, I guess I should introduce myself - I'm a longtime fan of figure skating, and have been a lurker on this page for 2 years now... finally decided to make an account. Nice to meet you all!)

Emzie is right - that FS Polish commentary isn't really that interesting, except for a comment at the beginning which I found hilarious - "Yuzuru Hanyu is making the sign of the cross in the Orthodox tradition". Please forgive them  Otherwise they are naming jumps and calling every second element "smooth as butter", they also say that they are witnessing a WR.

Here is a summary of the TVP Sport gala commentary, which I thing is more interesting. The video can be found here

Before the performance:

Babiarz: [Talks about other records during Worlds] Among the soloists we had the ingenious performance of Yuzuru Hanyu. His score... an unbelievable score of 223 points. Yesterday he succeeded in performing a program which was actually close to perfection. He didn't, however, get a 10 in components. Actually, why was that? They [the judges] could've easily given him a 10 in any of the components. [after a beat of silence] Oh, I know why. He was skating first in the last group. Had he skated later on, he would've gotten 10s for sure.

After the performance:

Sobczyński: Similarly to Carolina Kostner, he danced in the moonlight and under the stars. [he specifically used the word "danced"]. He is the great poet of figure skating.

Babiarz: He owns all the world records, the Olympic title, the World title again, which actually slipped from his grasp twice. He lost to his colleague, Fernandez, the last two times and wasn't in a great position before the free skate here, trailing 11 points behind Fernandez. But he executed everything perfectly and managed to achieve uncanny concentration.

Then they summarize his results this season, make a comment about the 1-2 Japanese podium and call his 4Lo his "signature element".

I particularly enjoyed the fact that they compared the Swan to dancing and appreciated the lyrical quality of Yuzuru's skating in general.

Thanks so much for the translation and welcome!! :thank:
What a great first post :)

Suddenly I feel sorry for YuzusHydroblade  sorry not sorry

At this rate we should send her some holy water in compensation!

My dears, anyone up for translating Estonian, Finnish, Latvian, Norweigian, Polish, Swedish and Swiss commentary for WC LP?

CBC French isn't translated yet, but Altie's doing that when she has a spot of free time if I remember right? Absolutely no pressure if that wasn't the case!!!! <3 <3 <3 I love you forever for all your wonderful french translations already.

I can't really help with these - but if anyone would be interested I could translate czech commentaries from worlds 2013-2016 since I don't see them in the spread sheet - though I am not sure if anyone would be interested (and I didn't even see some of them but I don't think they would even be that interesting - so it depends if anyone would want to see them^^)

any thoughts on the reporters/papers that are generally not yuzu-friendly, so we can be aware?

Actually, Nikkan is not always unfriendly to Yuzu. There have been many good articles by them especially when Kengo Abe was writing figure skating articles. The writer who wrote the article about The Ice is 高場 泉穂 (I don’t know how to pronounce his/her name.) Articles by this person sometimes (not always) distorts what Yuzu said or did negatively, or includes incorrect information, so as I wrote in the earlier post I get cautious when I find this name.

Hirono Aoshima is a freelancer who edited Aoi Honoo 1, but she is known for writing her personal assumptions, hopes, preferences as facts whether to praise or criticize a skater, and she has been criticizing Yuzu for years. I was surprised to find her name in an interview released after Boston last spring, but the interview itself wasn’t bad. I think she is probably good at editing interviews, but not so professional when she put her own thoughts into words. Lately she writes mainly on Webronza (a web magazine.) Her essays are paid contents, so rarely mentioned or shared on SNS.

I can’t think of any news paper which is particularly unfriendly to Yuzu, but I avoid gossip magazines like Josei Jishin (女性自身), Shukan Josei (週間女性), Josei Seven (女性セブン), Friday (フライデー) etc. Josei Seven fabricated a story about him and his ex-classmate in 2016. Josei Jishin and Shukan Josei have wrote overly negative articles regarding his injury, rule change, people around him based on information from “people familiar with the matter.” Magazines in this category write whatever they want to attract people’s interest, so I don’t even click to open their articles on internet not wanting them to think their Yuzu-related article attracts interests.

I love Kahoku Shinpo (河北新報, local newspaper of Sendai) for being always supportive of Yuzu.

Hello everyone:),

I got a parcel today from Finland and have to tell you about my Friday in Helsinki, between the short and the free. If those who were there remember, it was rainy and unfriendly in the morning, and I went sightseeing with a heavy heart.
I went to the arabia and iittala museum and shop, earthenware and glassware, I wanted to go there for some years now.

Ok, so I went, not happy, looked around, well...and saw some simple drinking glasses of iittala - in the exact colours of yuzuru´s costume of Hope and Legacy!

I bought two of each of the colours and felt a little happier and thought: well, even if catastrophe happens and he will miss even the podium, i will watch a performance like a dream and it will be beautiful.

Well, you know what happenend.

I transported my glasses safely to Germany and I missed the dark blue ones. So I went crazy and ordered them from Amazon and today they came! :)

Now I think they are a special kind of memory, my 14 drinking glasses I don´t need - and will be afraid to use in fear of breaking one!

Crazy greetings, happy,

raebia

Totally interested! The Czech commentaries for Worlds 2017 were quite amazing :D so I'd love to see them for the other Worlds as well :)
They're only not on the spreadsheet because no one knew where those sources were, or sometimes I'm slow on things. Please feel free to update the spreadsheet, it's open edit! We aim to collect all of them >:D

How lovely. I bet these glasses can't break; they are charmed!

Thanks for your take. Much appreciated :ghug: And yes, I love Kahoku Shinpo, and I'm loving all the ads that Sendai Broadcast made for Yuzu :luv17: Sendai is such a supportive hometown for zuzu.

I'll keep my Russian translations coming too, when I have more time...

Thank you, that's very interesting. I've seen only negative articles from Nikkan so far. How is Kengo Abe written in Japanese? I will try to find and read his/her opinion on Yuzu.

I actually don't think they are anywhere on youtube or any other site like that but on czech news site archive - until I can find a better way (how to download them - as they are older so I can't find them at the moment) I will screen capture it with my pc and upload it somewhere and once I will have time I will add subs ^^

Suddenly I feel sorry for YuzusHydroblade  sorry not sorry

So freaking perfect >< I think you should feel sorry (not really sorry) for more people xD
