This sport was much more fun when I didn't know **** about scoring :sarcasm:

Lol, sad but true. I met with 2 friends at the weekend who sometimes watch a few FS videos with me, and showed them the top 8 men SPs. I got a lot of  faces, and most attempts at explaining stuff made it worse... when I told them Nathan was around 1 points behind Yuzu is the SP they looked at each other as if a stoned smurf-eating Yeti was talking to them. They then decided the judges suck - and I didn't even say anything about how I think of it :scard8:

But for the positive part about that, my non-FS fan friends reeeeaaaally loved Yuzu (and except for Mika, they went really non-PC on the others :slink: ). It started off with them commenting after around 10 seconds that he looks like he was "floating on the ice" and "completely weightless". One raved on and on about how great his jumps are because they are "scarily high" and "he looks like a whirlwind in the air - the others look kind of sluggish in the air by comparison". After watching all 8 SPs, they said they liked Yuzu best because he was "the only on who had one continuous program and performance, no breaks, while others basically had a 'jumping part', a 'break in between', 'a performance part'." Which led to the discussion of "yes, he basically even performs his jumps" - "so does that make him the best jumper or the best performer?"...*short silence*..."both?" Me: "yes, yes, thank you very much, I take that "
They saw Nathan before him and flat out said Yuzu makes him look like a 'juvenile'. I couldn't help but to poke and said "some FS fans like to think non fans couldn't notice a quality difference between the 2 at all" - cue them looking like Ashley at the Olympics. My deepest apologies to my little Spiderbaby who was up next after Yuzu, because the only thing they managed to say about Boyang was "I think he tries, but that order is so unfortunate". Mental note to self: a.) always show Yuzu last; b.) my friends are ruthless :roll9:

PS: Yes, they did notice the PPoS. They also loved Pooh.

whole post.

Lol this. It actually takes very little effort to make non-FS people like Yuzu because he is that good. I sometimes watch FS competition when my family or friends are around (they know I am a Yuzu uber) but even then they tell me this : "Oh, of course you like him he is visibly better than the others." Then I would go all skating-geek mode at them and talk about entry, transition, GOE bla bla bla and they would just say : "We know nothing of that, but his skating and jumps look easy and effortless. And he is very artistic too." Others that they like (when they did not splat all over) is actually Patrick. While my brother like plushy because of his macho programs :p But all of them agree that Yuzu is very good.

Great post - loved every word you said! Are you going to try the LPs on them too?

Yes indeed. I have yet to find someone who doesn't like him. One of my male friends was once there too and poked fun at us gushing about him - but when everyone went out of the kitchen once I caught him skipping back on the video and re-watching it. I didn't dare disturb him :p But I might have taken a picture
Usually, most of my friends really love Jason too, they just really didn't like his program this time around.

Haha, well, yes I tried... they refused to watch most of them though :drama: they basically asked who did well in the LP and I said "Yuzu, Shoma, Boyang" - so they said "okay, then let's just watch Yuzu". If it makes that better, they watched it twice though  (and the amount of 'aaawwwww!!' during the KnC made me really happy too  )

Edit: something sweet I forgot: they asked me what Yuzu said at the end after his score came up, and I told them it's "I'm not crying". So they went: "Awwww, he should have just allowed himself to cry, he deserved it. It would have also been so cute" - "Sure, because what this guy needs is to look cuter". With a pronunciation like "isn't this more than cute enough?"

And I got a laughing fit about them discussing Yuzus vs Shomas looks and the good old question of "how old please are they?", that ended up with one saying Yuzu looks "distinctively very manly" - I'm not sure I heard that all that often before :laugh2:
(They're comment about Shoma was "you're really cute, but please no bed hair at 15". That's what sparked the age discussion :laugh2: )

I like them! :D
(That kiss and cry no longer feels cute after the pics i saw. Anyone saw my brief avatar change yesterday?)

Yesterday my mom watched ALL performances of LGC because she wanted to tell me of an element that Yuzu does and she liked (turned out she was confusing LGC for PW...)
Seriously guys, she saw every single one  After that i watched World's h&l again and she made me put it on the tv so she could watch too  I might have done some irreversible damage now.
(Coincidentally, i told her that we didn't know if he was going to keep LGC for Oly season and she said "Darling i'm afraid i'm going to have to take you out of the rink on a body bag when he skates in front of you with those pants.")

So your mom knows you well

And no, what about the KnC? Do I want to know? :scard8:

My expression must have betrayed me while rewatching LGC. That or she followed the path of my eyes, because there's no way i would say anything about the PPoS at home!
(depends on what you think about invisible conversations and cropped out of context pics...)

My mom watches and enjoys Yuzu's skating. And she also can tell that watching him do well really makes me happy so I think there's an element to that too. I remember watching 4CC with her (with wine in tow because I couldn't handle it). We saw Yuzu skate and do so well. And then Nate came on after him and even though he won overall my mom could easily see that he lacks the smoothness and sophistication that Yuzu has. She wants Yuzu's free skate from worlds saved to her phone. She loves his hydroblade and ina bauer in particular. And she always loves spread eagles, lol. :luv17:

Tell her she has good taste

My mom and my cousin both watched Yuzu's Worlds skates because of me  My cousin said she almost cried LOL.

ETA: She doesn't know I actually did cry.

I don't mind invisible conversations, but I'm not sure I want to be the one responsible for yet another one...?

I showed Yuzu to my mum and she was very impressed. But she said she liked Javier more because he is more 'manly' and Yuzuru makes her question whether boys are actually boys or not :gaah: one of the things I love most about Yuzu is the fact that he doesn't care about being stereotypically 'masculine' and that he'll do whatever makes the program more beautiful regardless of gender. Plus I think all his costumes are gorgeous

So much this! I'm both blessed and impressed that he skates to what he loves (demonstrating incredible versatility and range at that) despite all the haters whom I'm sure have popped up in numbers over the years. (Not calling your mom a hater, but you bet there are people who would say this stuff to his face:roll5:) I'm impressed and also incredibly blessed to be able to see what he creates, which is absolutely mind-blowingly beautiful.

And to all those people (not on Golden Skate usually, thank god) who want to comment on his sexuality/gender, I'm not sure how wearing lace and sparkles changes your genitalia :confused2::confused::scratch3: As far as I'm concerned, Yuzu looks and acts like a man because he is one.

I guess noblemen in the 16 to 18th centuries were all women, really, since they wore an awful lot of lace and gems. LOL

Gabby daleman used to receive this kind of criticism too (to skate beautifully like a lady! She said she used to be bullied/criticized for being muscular and not have a ladies' body), which is why I am so happy for her that she won medal at this year's worlds. I am glad that the skating world is starting to evolve and appreciate different style that does not conform to gender-stereotype (this is 2017, I mean, come on), and skaters like Yuzuru and Gabby could be on top. :luv17:

I made my ex boyfriend a Yuzu fan. At first he wasn't really into it, but now he's full on uber fan. And what's nice, he doesn't perceive Yuzu as "non-manly" or "feminine" despite Yuzu's cuteness. He thinks Yuzu's skating is like weightless floating in water joined with smooth movements; rhythmical and somewhat strong like river flow

I have learned to refrain from introducing friends and family to things I like because if I am introducing a thing to someone it means that thing is very dear to me and anything less than euphoria about the thing will offend me. LOL
But reading all this I am considering making some friends watch FS with me. I need to convert at least one into a Yuzu uber by the next season... I could use some emotional support for olys. :drama:

I love that he doesn't try to conform to any gender stereotype and just interprets and lets his emotions flow without barriers :)
I have to admit that at first i did feel like he was a bit feminine looking until i started digging a bit more: He does act like a man anyways, and i think that most of those people who bring up the gender/sexuality topic do it because of prejudices towards the sport, not necessarily Yuzu himself.
To me, it doesn't matter at all, what matters is that he gives incredible performances :D and i admire people who are able to convey their emotions with such intensity and honesty :luv17: in his case is even more admirable because he does so while executing technically impressive feats :D
In my opinion, everything else shouldn't be questioned because it's completely irrelevant to what he does :luv17:
