Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

So now it seems even Asahi is promoting the rivalry between Yuzuru and Shoma, Matsuoka directly told him that Shoma wants to beat him, Yuzuru answered he knows but he wants to win as well, also he said he knows many young skaters who have higher bv already but if he does all his elements cleanly there is nothing to be afraid of, and he is confident. And and the title on upper-right of the interview wass "the minor score gap between gold and silver medalists." At least Asahi seemed more human than Fuji now them too...

Frankly I am not bothered by this because they have been doing this since forever. They did that between Yuzu and Dai. Once Dai retired, they pushed the rivalry between Yuzu and Machida (the points gap between them was even much lesser at that time). Now that Machida retire they are dying to find another person to match up with Yuzu for the rivalry thing and that's where Shoma came along. As long as Yuzu is still competing, the media will always push a rivalry narrative against someone (or anyone for that matter), but he prevailed regardless time and time again. I think his mindset where he focused more on what he is capable of is a good mindset. It is easy to get distracted with what the others are doing, but as long as his own ideals and goals are clear, and he knows his limits and capabilities, he sets himself in a good path

Guys, could you help me? I need that video of Yuzu and Brian before the Swan Ex at the 2017 worlds...

The dreadful moment when Shoma's score was about to be announced...I actually like him, but he comes nowhere near Yuzu.

His whole FS was dreadful to watch, because I wasn't sure if his mistake on the lutz would be enough for Yuzuru to stay on the first place. I knew that Shoma would get the GOE and PCS, unfortunately. I still can't believe that without the mistake on the lutz he would have surpassed Yuzuru's Seimei WR he set at NHK. :slink:

I wasn't that nervous because I didn't think it was going to be close. Boy was I wrong :slink:

Yeah, it became my favourite place instantly

What would happen to the world if Yuzu had a twin?

You were really cheerful, I remember :) I was very worried and I was not sure that the score wouldn't be 216/217 because I knew the judges wouldn't care about iffy landings and would give out goe like candies...:disapp:

Heyyo I'm back from the dead in time for WTT
Seeing Jason's Twitter and all the press conference shenanigans I hope the competition remains this much fun! I really miss Helsinki's media tho like the snapchat and things I loved it a lot so much Yuzu to see  I will have class tomorrow :sad21: But I told everyone to leave me alone at the time for Yuzu's sp so I hoooope I'm covered?
Anyway anyone knows how to operate the app? Speak not a word japanese. Tho I do think that people would record the cheering clips no?
I sincerely pray for a clean LGC and that all the axels, loops and salchows behave ;)

If you come and check the thread and there are like 80 new pages you will know that 4A or 4Lz came out to play :slink:

Hi there! :luv17:

I wanted to introduce myself here as I've FINALLY gotten around to creating a profile on GS ^-^
This is the thread on which I spend 70% of my GS forum time (heh!)... always failing to catch up with the pace!
I'm a long time skating fan (obvs) since skating as a kid - and yeah I have to admit that Yuzuru is something special. After Helsinki I simply had to sign up somewhere where there was a greater density of Hanyu appreciation going down!! I have so few friends in RL who love FS the way I do.

On another note, if ever there is a need for translation of French or German-Swiss commentary, I'd be glad to help out!

Another another note: I second the love I read for Yuzu's LGC hairstyle.

omg.

Thanks for reading and also for the lovely thread - love reading the conversations on here :')

But still there is a positive thing. Do you know any other skater who wins Worlds with record breaking score and his fans still complain about underscoring :). He is unique.
In this case I actually wish he were a little less unique (or rather treated uniquely) because I think this is part of why many people get so frustrated about the whole score debate. If you complain about Yuzu being underscored and others being overscored at Worlds, people go "oh please, he won, got a new record, the placements are correct, stop whining that he should have won by a bigger margin". The difference between first and second place was only little more than two points. If the judges had gone just a little crazier with Shoma's scores, then he could have won this. Had he won and people then complained about under/overscoring, everybody would go "oh please, you only complain because your favorite didn't win" (the same basically happened after 4CC). And when you bring up an example like Asian Winter Games (where your favorite, who apparently makes you completely blind for any kind of rational thinking, didn't even participate, and where most people seem to agree that the final result was not correct) then you get "oh I didn't know that AWG was such an important competition that the results there actually matter to anyone".
Somebody will always win the competition, but nobody is ever going to win this debate, because no matter what argument you bring, it will always be twisted in a way that the score is fine, it's only your "unique" perception of it that's wrong.

sorry for being a downer :rolleye: long day.
