Nathan Chen

In the WTT Exhibition Gala thread, I didn't see Nathan's name on the order of the performances. Does anybody know why?
I guess for singles only one man and lady for the top three teams except for Japan.

I'm assuming he's sitting it out to let his ankles rest. He'd almost certainly be invited after finishing 2nd overall for the men. He was even honored at the banquet for finishing in the top 3.

Japanese twitter fans going wild over Nathan wearing glasses. Not the goofy ones from yesterday, mind you, but normal everyday glasses.

I love Japanese fans.

well i can understand the love because nathan looked mighty fine in those glasses!

they really suit his face!

I have to say that was my favourite Nathan sp performance this year. It didnt matter that it was a flip combo instead of the lutz ( i think he does flip better anyway), but everything was bang on. All season I've enjoyed his sp (lp not so much) so to see him relaxed and paying more attention to detail made it even better. Well done to him.
I agree! I thought this performance flowed beautifully. The footwork sequence really "sang". Loved it.

Love this photo of Shoma having dinner with the Americans. Wonder how that happened and what was the conversation like?! :scratch3:

According to the text, Kento Kajita (a former skater) says that, "For a number of reasons, this somehow happened. We were able to speak English." Japanese fans want to know what Shoma and Nathan spoke about since they are both known to be on the shy side.

A curious thing indeed, since we know Shoma's English is pretty much non-existent and I would suspect Nathan's Japanese is the same. Wonderful to see them all so relaxed looking and having some fun. I sometimes forget that Nathan and Shoma have known each other for a long time, since they came up together as Juniors...Congratulations to all on a great season.

I think the implication is that Kento is the one who could speak English and that he served as interpreter. LOL Although from what I understand most Japanese can understand lots of written English but have problems stringing together sentences verbally.

I re-watched Nathan's long program at WTT many times, and although the jumps were not as good as at GPF, somehow I enjoyed the performance very much.
There were the free spirit, the presence, and the fluidity about it. The choreography of the first half part is empty, because he had just come back from a long
recovery, hence the stamina was a big issue. Now that he has no big issue to keep him away from ice, I am looking forward to next season since a healthy Nathan
would do a lot more both technically and artistically.

Well Nathan now has a very short period to rest his ankles before he begins Stars On Ice on May 4. I wonder if Jeff Buttle will be choreographing a solo routine for him? Might be able to use it as next season's exhibition program.

Jeff will be busy with Canadian Stars on Ice, beginning on April 28.

But I would expect the solo programs for SOI to have been mostly choreographed long ago. At least I would hope that skaters have more than 1 week to learn a new program.
