2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

It's mind-boggling how fast Shcherbakova rotates those jumps. :eeking: Hope she does not overtrain.

BTW. It's Shcherbakova, not Sherbakova. I don't know why people on this board started calling her like that recently :scratch2:

I hope so too. she isn't even eligible yet but she does jumps no lady in senior field can do in competition.

I think it's because Western media and publications spell Evgeni's surname Plushenko despite letter Щ and now they are doing the same with Anna's surname :x

Well, yes, Shcherbakova would be more accurate since her family names starts with "Щ". I, personally, always replace both "Ш" and "Щ" with "Sh" in my everyday life. Probably that is why...

Well Russian Cyryllic - transliteration to English could be tricky to be fair. Pronunciation even more for those who don't know Russian language. We call one famous skater Plushenko (Плю́щенко )- but in Polish he's called / transliterated to "Pluszczenko'' according to our ortography, Russian pronunciation differs quite much from how Poles read ''Pluszczenko'' too. In fact "щ" stands for /ɕɕ/ doubled consonant which In Poland could be literally translated as ‘‘śś’’ – as we have specific letter ‘ś’ for the same phonem. But we rather stick to Pluszczenko ;)

I would argue, it should be Scherbakova like auf Deutsch.

Her official goldenskate page lists her under ''Shcherbakova'', either way "English" versions always butcher spelling of Russian surnames (also Polish if they don't use diacritics).

Well even commentators butcher Russian names and we have mutants like "Medvedva" or "Kolyda"

Looks like the next cycle will bring quads and 3As in numbers. And if someone wins 2022 with just 7 triples and 3-3s it will be a bitter Lysacek-Plushenko style argument after that.

Oh you guys... :laugh2: After these two shocking video you found what to discuss - pronouncing of skaters names. C'mon! :)

I agree. We saw Tyrsunbaeva's quad but I can't remember if there have been any 4-3 combos yet. And will Evgenya try 4S-3T or she is so invincible now that she would not risk it during the OG season and will play it safe?

Anna Sherbakova
4T+3T :eeking:

TAT has been talking at least half a year ago about a girls from Eteri's group who is training a quad. Now we clearly know who it is. I wish we could see Trusova's 3A landed.
It seems that Anna has been having progress in her attempts since I do not believe Tutberidze would let her just post videos online without her permission.

Edit (added later)
Aleksandra Trusova :yahoo:
4S+3T

Watch out. Eteri's new wave is coming!

Now, i am bad at counting rotations... The quads look kinda short to me...
So you expert folks, how rotated is that?

I would like for her "to play it safe"...
but her 3S looks much bigger now... and she is definitely working on her speed and high.

At any rate, we need to wait and see how this goes and the girls will manage to keep those jumps past puberty.
