As I have said 2 days ago, brace yourselves, It will be worse than Daisuke/Machida/Yuzuru pre-post Sochi, because Kansai is nowhere near Nagoya's level in playing dirty. It is Olympics and Nagoya has a contender in men finally, that makes things even more difficult. People with weak hearts , please do not read the articles which will come out whole this year, there will be loads of them trying to undermine Yuzuru and paint him as "inconsistent", "old". Try to stay insensitive as much as it is possible and keep this thread positive, friendly advice

My thoughts exactly.

There is a LOT of articles in the past (and recent) painting him unfavorably, it is just that it is never shared here lol. So just ignore them, it has been like that for years and will just get worse on the olympic year. I am amused though, like the off-season just started not even a week but it has already started

Release the river!!! (Lotr reference)

:laugh2: :laugh2:

Since he is repeating plus adding the crossroll nonsense I give him - SS 2.0 TR 2.0 PE 3.0 1.0 CO 1.0 IN 3.0

I am actually a bit sad that it sounds more and more nitpicky by the days lol.
And people wonder why he preferred to train abroad, stay away from the media, away from his "skating friends" and "teammates" and why it is almost unlikely for him to train in Japan again :coffee:

Why NO ONE from JSF ever said something like Mr. Shoma Uno's toe jumps are not standard?

Those cheated take-offs have gained Mr. Shoma Uno ALOT of points and blatantly robbed Mr. Boyang Jin many times.

And the great Mr. Kozuka Takahiko HAD to mention that Mr. Hanyu's crossroll is not standard.

Anyone give me some base value for crossroll? No. This move gets no point at all in the whole system.

They are just trying to paint Mr. Hanyu as the "weaker old skater" and make Mr. Shoma Uno with all his questionable technique the better younger one.

How disappointing is that, Japanese old veterans are nothing more than playing political games now.

Why he mentioned the crossrolls of all things?
On a lighter note, I am in love with the Seimei's ones, but they are already taken .

Now that you mention it, there's this part I didnt translate because I felt it was a little redundant but Javi reiterated, "he's a very consistent/constant skater, that's the #1 thing i always praise him for". Which is true, since I watched many other interviews/TV appearences and although they weren't long enough to translate, whenever they asked Javi briefly about Yuzu, the first thing he mentions is his consistency.

It is even more valuable coming from a great skater and rival.

Dai have always been complimentary towards Yuzuru

 Er. No.

The one person who is truly complimentary towards Yuzuru and doesn't have a bitter bone in his body is Oda. But then Oda is sunshine and rainbows and unicorns packed into a human body that was then sprayed with glitter just for effect.

This Kansai or Nagoya thing is just saddening. Why do they bother attacking their "best" skater (Nagoya camp, I'm looking at you). Criticism is fine but to constantly put down a skater for some reason is just :dev2: . Or have they been in denial for years of Yuzuru's talent and skill? As for Akiko's comment, I'm gonna agree the program is not emotional but H&L was not meant to be an emotional performance nor is it dramatic. Yuzuru had mentioned it's about nature, while Shae-Lynn, Yuzuru's hope and legacy. It doesn't matter which one because I've seen both in the program. Akiko is entitled to her own opinion but I would loved it if she had suggested examples of music which could draw out Yuzuru's emotional side more that she wished to see (don't know if she did in that article since I can't read Japanese but from the posts, she didn't suggest anything) being a choreographer and all.

But Oda never talk bad about anybody too. Like you said he is rainbow and sunshine
He is always complimentary to everybody even to skaters who skated really bad or is really behind in technique (I am talking lower tier skaters in Japan here). He is like the Ted Barton of Japanese skating.
I remember when media/tv comparing skaters (it was Rika's 3A and Mao iirc) he reprimanded them (the announcer lol) and said "please don't compare the skaters, rika kihira is rika kihira, mao-chan is mao-chan they are both great in their own ways. Please don't do that it is very hard for the skaters." -> something like this not verbatim but you can see how sympathetic he is to skaters competing being one himself back in the days.

Ok so I googled what cross roll is and watched a YouTube video about it bc I'm not familiar with figure skating terms outside those discussed here and well cross rolls were never mentioned in Yuzu's performance commentary videos ever too. And I went 0_0

Well if Yuzu with his amazing skating skills needs to practice this more then he must be talking about another cross rolls ...

No? I'm not expecting everyone to be complimentary towards Yuzuru but I didn't think Dai would also have some "other" things to say. Considering that he loves Shoma who has a rather err... well... :palmf:

Anyways, yes Oda is really nice. And always has a lot of good things to say. :)

He certainly wouldn't have been alone. Some of my favorite commentary:

Terry Gannon: Every time you think he can't do any better, he proves you wrong.
Tara Lipinski: An Olympic Champ skating like a true Olympic Champ. That was incredible. He has it all. He has the technical difficulty. The style of his skating is so unique and beautiful. Excellent Skating skills. Ugh!
Johnny Weir: He's so well rounded in so many ways. The jumps are beautiful. The technique, especially in this free program, he was so solid with his back, through his core. So strong. But what really sets him apart artistically is that he can do everything, from this beautiful melodic piano piece to making Prince work to making metal work. That's how he stays ahead of the rest.
Terry Gannon: Did you see the people in the front rows of the audience? People were actually crying at the end of that performance.
Tara Lipinski: Terry, he's just that good!
Johnny Weir: He's so popular in Japan, many people have flown from Japan to see him. But his emotion sells everything.

And this is from people that have their own horse in the race now.

Wasn't this also the commentary where Tara said, after Yuzu bowed to Brian and Tracy, that they should be the ones bowing to him? As someone who has thought that for years, I was delighted to hear a commentator finally say it. I've watched FS for decades and I believe he's not only the best FS in the world right now but also the best ever in the sport. To paraphrase Kurt Browning, he's genius on ice.

Everytime I hear crossrolls I think of food. Yuzu sucks at cooking, I guess.

DiamondDust, well, see, Shoma is his heir. The rightful heir. And Yuzuru has always been the outsider who wasn't supposed to do any of the things he did. So kicking him is kind of in their program. I am hoping karma hits them once again.

That's what I love about him, isn't he just wonderful? :luv17: He knows the pressures and the games and just goes lol no and skips over the meadow picking flowers that he weaves into flower crowns for people. And when you look closely, the petals still have dew drops on them because it's Oda and he's magical.
Seriously though, I have enormous respect for the man.

He is a skating coach (or director? manager? idk the position lol) for Kansai uni too now. Anyway, I do think the current kansai powerhouse aka mie hamada and yamato tamura has not said "things" about Yuzuru that is "eh?"yet. So far they are nothing but complimentary, (esp yamato, I think? he made several blogpost keep commending/cheering for him and Yuzu invited him for TOI and he seemed to be thankful and really enjoying it). But again they both are "new" and "young". Or maybe they had and I missed things lol. :p

What do they mean when they say he needs to show more emotion any way? After all emotion can be anything joy, happiness, sadness, boredom, anger, fear etc.

For H&L, Yuzuru had a joyful performance in GPF (at least the first half), a show of of determination in 4CC, and perfect calmness at Worlds, and all three emotions worked very well with the music. What more does anyone want, what is the emotion he needs to show that would make everyone happy

One more thing, why is the talk only about H&L and not LGC? That program shows Yuzuru's performer abilities and is something only he could ever do. Yet, everyone is talking about the mistakes in the jumps and ignoring the artistry in the program :scratch2:

Akiko is free to comment like she wants but I still feel disappointed of her because I really liked her:(

anyway when I saw this news of the article I was remembering the time when yuzu won nhk with seimei :luv17: and at the end of ceremony he searched for nobu and gave him his bouquet as gratitude, that was so sweet, I’m very thankful to nobu as well for being a good support for yuzu and focusing in positive comments all the time

and I might be very dramatic and exagerating but now I’m glad that at that moment yuzu didn’t give the bouquet to Akiko so sorry

Oh my, good thing Yuzuru keeps himself motivated to stay on top. :)
