So sad that thread got closed. That video was more informative to figure skating than most other things posted in the edge  And Yuzuru is the World and Olympic champion, so it's not like he's irrelevant either.

Lol guys I am late to the "party" but I will just say this :

I regularly visited and posted at the Edge. Just so you know, I have read comments from some who think that GS has become too "Hanyucentric" due to the sheer ridiculous amount/number of poster/member/posts that are his fans/uber, whether at FF or at edge forums; and they are annoyed at it. I know they made fun of the speed where hanyu FF is increasing, the amount of posts and his amount of "fangirls". I know many of them think Hanyu got a lot of fans not because of his skating, but because they like his looks and they thought these kind of fans couldn't care less about his skating (and this is what annoys me the most lol). I know his fans are deemed more as "fangirls" rather than "skating fan who knows what they are talking about" and is sometimes looked down upon in GS. But I think if you go away and quit just because of "them", I feel like you are giving them what they want. Before Hanyu blew up after Sochi, there were quite even number of supporters from different skaters but now it is a different case and I saw how it irked some people.

But it is not his fault nor his fans' fault that he got a lot of amount of fans/supporters. But if you feel like GS is too much, there is always other platform. I have learned to ignore nonsense and BS comments about skaters that I like here and some posters at the edge is actually quite neutral and knowledgeable (and I usually will just listen to them).

People can still view the video even if comments are closed.

Don't worry! The record will be broken soon enough; it's your enjoyment of the performance that matters and lasts. :agree:

I think there's a quote from Yuzuru about that—how a legacy consists more of great performances than high scores. One of you must have it handy ;)

Ah thank you for telling me that [emoji8]

As the one who started the thread, I'm sorry for both the unfortunate title, and the ensuing unpleasantness. I'm in favor of the thread being closed as it was just attracting more bickering. I posted...went to bed, and then woke up to see 14 pages mostly petty bickering which saddened me, but there were many positive responses as well. Also, I do not blame Doris for thinking if the thread title changed it would stop the bickering...not a case of double standards, but trying to get the thread back on topic. Golden Skate is not a place where universal praise can be expected for any opinion or topic because it's blessed with membership larger than any other figure skating forum. Fans of all disciplines and all skaters post here and they are as passionate and dedicated to their ideal of figure skating as we Hanyu fans are. In any case, the thread is closed, and I would have taken down my post this morning if it hadn't been.
On a forum as large as this, it's impossible to please everyone, but give and take is necessary to make it work at all.

The point isn't that he is irrelevant or not. The point is every thread about him on the edge now will be sabotaged even if it's about the construction of his programs. They will always find a way to complain:
- why don't you guys make videos for other skaters? Only for Hanyu? Then this means nothing. (Hello darling why don't you make videos for your own favorites? Why would we waste time and energy for skaters we are not fond of?)
- making fun of our hardwork like: you guys have much free time, huh? I pity you guys. (Hello, jealous that your favorites get no passionate fans enough to do such hardwork?)
- the title is wrong!! World records are meaningless!! (Then where were you when your favorites were called as setting new world record?)

I expect one of the admins to say things like: Hanyu's fans are shameful and they don't know how to end while in reality it's the others bashing the name of the thread.

And totally ignore that we didn't start the whole argument about World Records first.

And next time anyone of us might get banned.

That's it. I am tired of this.

Not all of the mods are the same, but the results that pop up in the end are really making me shake my head. I'm sorry for the mods that are genuinely trying their best to keep GS a good place, but really, that 13-pages fire was waiting to happen for a while by now...
(Oh, and regarding people getting banned, I'm high up that list I bet - so if I'm gone tomorrow, at least I can say it happened by making a skating analysis video and trying to defend that on a skating discussion board. That's kind of amazing on it's own :p )

Anyway, I didn't read the majority of the last pages, but I wanted to thank everyone again for the constructive comments on the video - the compliments (yes, I'm that shallow! ) and the ideas to make it better next time. If we do manage to make another project, we'll try to consider the feedback we got as good as possible to make the videos as good as possible :)

Yeah, but there's no way to discuss it, and it will be buried soon.

Well, people on this forum who "won't like it" are unlikely to discuss it logically even if there's a thread. As we can see, people who are the most vocal in the Edge don't exactly represent the GS population, much less everyone who watches figure skating. The video is on a lot of platforms, a lot of which have commenting functions, we can still hope to introduce the video to a wider, more discerning audience and talk about it. Don't lose heart.

It really was such an informative video....hence even more reason for certain people to derail it and kick it into the mud.

Anyone can see that video was a labor of love for Yuzuru and for figure skating. Please don't give a second thought to those who are essentially jealous and spiteful that Yuzuru gets the love and dedication that he gets from his fans. I'm actually quite optimistic that Yuzuru was already seen the video or definitely will. Japanese fans are retweeting it as well and so are FS insiders. :gclap:

And I feel awful now. About everything.

I don't want to talk you out of your feelings. But I work in customer service, so I deal with this kind of unpleasantness every so often, in person (eek)! It doesn't affect me as much as it used to. After a while, I realized that these antagonistic situations aren't my fault, and aren't really changed by how I behave or what I say (even though I respond with basic calmness and courtesy). Things just go pear-shaped a certain percentage of the time, no matter what you do. It sucks, but it does pass. People are dealing (or not) with whatever other issues they have in their lives, and it bleeds over onto you. In a way, it isn't personal. You just happen to be there.

Even I'm in favor of it being closed, but the thing is I was not a fan of posting it in the Edge in the first place, because it was clear that it would go down this way.
That is not against you Specs, as I respect you a lot, but I will repeat again that it wasn't just the WR topic and therefor that title change would not have stopped the bickering in the first place. It is fine if people don't agree with the video and give criticism, and I actually thought we made that clear in the thread as well. But IMO, posts that shoe-horn an intention into this that discredits the video, the analysis, the work and the people who put that work into it is not okay. And since I know people have gotten warnings before for these kind of posts (or less), I will remain that it is a clear double standard. Therefor, I will continue to vote against further videos of that type (if we make them), finding their way to GS. Maybe the FF, but then not-Yuzu videos would be OT here, so...
(And I'm sorry, but I've been on larger forums before, I've been a mod on a big forum before. That is no reason why insulting people is okay)

Honestly though I am genuinely surprised that the video even got "controversy" in the first place. It is really well-made. It doesn't compare Yuzuru to other skaters and it just simply put out what Yuzu did step by step and explain GOE bullets. It is made to appreciate Yuzuru and actually to "educate" people about steps, turns, GOE and other elements. The video did not even bring down anyone or mention other skaters, I am really confused at the strong reaction.

If you put other skaters as comparison it would even be crazier in terms of response lol (like that debatable GOE scores video).

Well, I feel less humiliated by the abuse we got from some people than by the brisk treatment the thread got in the end. I also think there's a clear case of double standards. The sad thing is that so many people didn't get to have their say about our work because of the aggressive attack we were sure we'd get in the end.
I feel hurt now. I hate to think what the others might be feeling. The feeling will pass, I won't leave the thread - I love you, crazy people, and I love coming up with translations and stuff for you, but I feel unwelcome to GS in general.

Wow, so this week started with that Akiko article and now ended with this. What a ride this season is going to be, I'm so glad I've developed some mental fortitude after following Yuzuru for these past years. :drama:

The haters are just jealous their faves don't give them as much fanservice as yuzu does :coffee:
