Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

What do you think of that piece as inspiration for their FD?

Agnes Obel is one of my favourite singers and 'The curse' is her first song I heard a while ago and got hypnotized by it. Her music embodies some kind of mystery, organic feel and intricacy, very rare to see nowadays I feel; there's always a sense of tension, emotions bubbling under the surface, inside the space she creates with her voice and music - for me, quite similar to what I feel about Gabriella/Guillaume skating, with difference they create that kind of 'state' by their movement, feel of the music. I am not sure if they'd use Agnes' songs in actual program, but without a doubt her music could serve as a great, 'rich' source of artistic inspiration. On a side note - I think that 'The curse' could make a separate program by itself, or combined with 'Riverside' would be also exquisite (both songs below, if anyone's interested).

In general I think that no matter what they would choose as their FD upcoming season, they'll stay true to themselves, the direction, individual path they're pursuing no matter what opinions are. And that's the most important thing for me and one of the most valued in them as a skaters, artists, performers. The great thing about their FDs for me is that those dances grow so much thorough the season, they are always 'dynamic' in their core, never static and constant, for me it's always about making a striking impression which then will linger on my mind for a long time. I'm sure next season will be no exception.

I totally agree with you, that both songs would mesh really well and "riverside" would lift up the mood somehow. I can really see them skating to "the curse" in my mind's eye. "Just so" is also a lovely piece. Do you know it?
I also, like you, think that they are more interested in creating the mood with their skating alone but in an Olympic year I would be happy for them not to "neglect" the awesome combined power of music and dance. It just creates magic on top of magic!

Would anyone know who are the Russian commentators during P/C FD at Words ?
Also, if someone would be kind enough to translate, I can kind of understand the Spanish and the Italian commentators but Russian nothing.

It's Alexander Grishin and Fedor Klimov.

Before FD.
Klimov: ...such close results mean there are many strong pairs, they are near the same level, which is very high so the results lie within 1 point.
Grishin: The plot thickens.
Grishin: PC are in hardest situation at this WC. They are defending their title of the best on the planet however the rivalry now is much stronger than 2 previous seasons.

After FD.
Grishin: They skate as a single whole and the audience is standing up as a single passionate whole from their seats at Hartwall arena. It's no wonder, people weep watching this performance. (He remembered his trip to Vienna: somebody was playing a violin on the street and a woman was sliding the wall and weeping, because the music pierced her heart so much. Alike this performance by PC pierced the audience here.) This is something unspeakable.
Klimov: Yes, and FD is certainly their power. In the past sometimes they would make mistakes in SD and lag behind quite considerably. But then they would come out and show something incredible in FD and in the end rise to the top of the podium.
Grishin: I think it happens because SD has restrictions - patterns, key-points, specific musical rythm. And PC are the real artists, they create, and when those restrictions are removed (in FD) - here it is, flight of imagination, they are restricted only by their own fantasy.
Klimov: Yes, that's what I meant.
(on the repeat we see a glimpse of Shibs FD)
Grishin: Oh let's thank the broadcast director for reminding us that Shibutanis were skating before PC. I insist that Russian broadcasts of FS are the best in the world, and this season I'm assured of it once again.
And the best ice dancers in the world are in this warm-up group. 119 points, is it WR or Tessa and Scott had more this year? We need to look up... No, VM never had such result, it's a new WR!
Klimov: There you go!
Grishin: There you go.

Comentators here are Grishin and Fedor Klimov <3 (who replaced TAT in the final day or two at Worlds). I can't give you an exact translation since I don't understand everything myself but here's what I gathered: your translation

It's Alexander Grishin and Fedor Klimov. Your translation

Thank you very much to the both of you for answering so fast. I did miss TAT and her lyricism especially when Gaby and Guillaume skate, she would have been crying at the end of this FD I'm sure.

Apparently, my brain works even in the middle of the night. I woke up and I was "omg they have to skate on Clair de lune"
Could be a strange choice after the last two modern programs but it could be great with a great arrangement. What do you think about it ?
Enjoy your day :)

:thumbsup:I think they will take a classical music and interpret it in a modern way ....:)
It is true that Clair de lune would suit them very well:luv17:. I had thought of Sarabande (Haendel).

La honte! Can you give my your eyes? Sorry cocotaffy. Anyway thank you.

Mais pas de honte, non, non. Do you really want my eyes because I think it's more my obsessive nature which is responsible for noticing every single detail. And I'm not sure it's a gift to bestow on anyone, it's rather time consuming

Since there's not much going on lately with Gaby and Guillaume, I decided to watch TSL's video about the ice dance competition in Helsinki, had a quick glance into the comments section - btw. not a wise decision, the Youtube comments sections are usually full of crazy ubers who leave nasty comments BUT there was a very pleasant one from someone who's been to the WC in Helsinki and had some interesting observations, and I thought I'd share it with all of you :)

Here's a part of the comment that I thought was interesting:

"Last: in fact I saw them skate one after the other [P/C and V/M] in the FD live at the Hartwall arena and I can tell you, the audience response to the French was incredible. In Germany we have a word, a saying: an angel is passing through the room.....That was what happened. There wasn't a difference in the quality of their performances as you said in your post. There was just a little but evident difference, actually: the French left the audience speechless and some of them in tears after their performance- no joke. I saw people crying..."

(It's nothing we didn't know before, but it never fails to amaze me how impressive and big of an emotional impact Gaby and Guillaume have on the audience, and how lucky the audience members are to experience it. I wish I'll be able to experience it myself one day!)

Btw. If you guys want, I'll repost the whole comment of this poster, he was very complimentary to Gaby and Guillaume, and had some remarks about V/M as well.

Will post my comments about the Worlds in Helsinki next week end but there's one thing I can tell you right now...

Can't wait to hear about your trip and your impressions. Give as many details as you can

On another note, a new very nicely done mash-up from Julie Wie popped up on YT to quench your thirst during this dry patch till their participation in a show sometime in June.

My wish : they skate upon sound of silence by disturbed.
I liked so much vanessa and james on it and I'm sure that PC can do something fantastic with it with in the middle a real silence.
