Elena Radionova

Yes, it's from an article in a Russian journal "The World of Figure Skating" with pictures of pretty much all the senior Russian ladies/pair ladies and ice dance women. Here's the page with Lena: :luv17:

If I had to guess, I think that photo is from Lena's photoshoot that she did a couple months ago. I still *REALLY* want to see those photos!! :drama:

Lena posted a super cute photo of her parents!!

You can really see her resemblance to her mom here!
...but her dad's sweet smile also reminds me of Lena. :)

Lena was at the Twizzle skating shop sometime recently (today?):

Can you spot 3 Lena's in the photo?

But if she's getting equipment there...does that mean she's not being sponsored by Riedell anymore?
I guess we'll see if she ends up going to Minnesota again or not...

That is one thing I have been wondering regarding Lena switching coaches... I remember two years ago, Inna Goncharenko talked about how Lena's parents had to pay for her choreographers and specialists (like a skating skills coach), and how Lena couldn't afford to work with big-name choreographers:

Since Lena didn't go to Euros and Worlds and didn't do too well this season, maybe she doesn't have as much prize money as she did last year. And maybe THAT'S why Lena wanted to go to Buyanova's group, because if you're in that group, apparently all your specialists and choreographers are paid for (you don't have to pay yourself)... :scratch2:

I don't know, perhaps we'll never know why Lena decided to leave...

All I know is I will DEFINITELY miss seeing these two together!

Lena is still featured on Riedell's website so she probably still has a sponsorship deal with them. She could have had other equipment needs that took her to Twizzle.

As for her decision to change coaches, we probably will never know why and honestly I am ok with that. I will miss seeing her and Inna together and really am not looking for to Elena and Elena B kiss n cry moments since Elena B just bugs the heck out of me. However, if Elena B can make things happen for my girl I am willing to suck it up.

winky97, you took the words right out of my mouth! I totally agree!

Here's a photo of Lena and Sergei with a fan at CSKA. I'm not sure when it's from..

Did anyone see Lena's IG story yesterday? She posted a short clip of her taking a epic fall while practicing some steps with Shae-Lynn... :laugh2:
It didn't seem like her program music was playing (unfortunately!), but the steps looked kind of...dramatic? Keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out to be an AMAZING program! :agree:

Yay! So happy we'll get to see Porgy and Bess again :) Definitely one of my favourite shorts ever and it suits Lena so much!

Good choice, it indeed suits her well, I hope she will find better dress though because this program deserves better one. She always looks better in her EXs and it annoys me, she better have great styling for Olympics season :drama:

I loved the SP this year, and I loved both dresses, although I couldn't say why the FP dress suits the program. I couldn't have said I liked the FP all that much. I am glad she is keeping her SP, I am sure she will have a new dress, that part is fun and easy compared to a new SP. I am quite a bit more hopeful for her Olympic season than I was a month ago.

Hey everyone! I am going back to lurking now.

Hi Chrome77! Congrats on your first post! Don't just lurk; please post long and often!

I agree with you; I did not like Lena's "Turandot" at all, even though I looove "Nessun Dorma." And Lena's dress was gorgeous. It even made it onto the runway...??? Or maybe Lena was inspired by this dress?

Can anyone please summarize what she said? There was a short summary on sports.ru...Apparently she said she's pleased with the transition to the new coach, and that she's going on vacation (her IG story today showed that she's in the Maldives--lucky!!). And that she communicates with Yulia.

She also said she's not getting married anytime soon...? LOL!

Well, my other post was getting kind of long, so I'll put this in a new post.

Here's a translation of Elena Buyanova's recent interview:
http://fs-gossips.com/elena-buyanova-in-sport-everything-is-fleeting/

I have to say, that after reading this interview and the one with Averbukh, I am more confused than ever about what's going on with Lena.

First, I was really surprised that Lena asked Averbukh to choreograph a program for her. (I'm guessing it would have been the SP.) I thought Averbukh made it pretty clear even at the end of the 2016 season that he would only choreograph for Medvedeva. So to me, it sounds like Lena & Buyanova decided to reuse Porgy & Bess because she didn't have another option. Personally, I like "Porgy & Bess," but I don't love it, and I had been hoping she would get something even better. Who knows though? Maybe it will be good for her to have a program she's 100% comfortable with.

Second, I was really surprised about how Buyanova goes on and on about how great Masha is, how smart and hard-working she is, and how she has a strong character. And in contrast, all she says about Lena is that she knows Lena's strengths and weaknesses, and that Lena "does not have an easy character."

If that is the case--if Masha is just wonderful, and Lena has problems, then why did she agree to take Lena at all? She surely could have said no, like she did to Anna Pogorilaya.

Of course, she might be trying to assign blame in advance--so that if things don't work out later, she can always say "I said from the beginning that Elena has problems and is difficult."

And I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in the fall. If Lena starts performing well and Masha not so much, I would not be surprised at all if Buyanova changes her tune and starts singing Lena's praises. :rolleye:

I guess no matter what, in order to make that Olympic team, Lena can't just rely on having a powerful coach. She's got to land those jumps fully-rotated, every single time, and that's the ONLY way she'll have a chance.

So I hope Lena has a nice, relaxing vacation, and comes back ready to train harder than ever! :agree: GOO LENA!! :hap10:

I think you are overanalysing it. It is true that the last season Elena struggled with puberty. Saying that, her struggles were much more subtle than the struggles of Sotnikova, Tuktamysheva and Lipnitskaya's struggles with their puberty a few years ago. Unlike them , Radionova still landed her jumps, although they looked somewhat messy. To me it says that she has a really strong will, and that she really wants to land it, no matter how off balance the jump is while in the air. When Lipnitskaya struggled with jumps, she started popping them. Radionova still lands them, even though the landing is a bit messy. That shows a huge amount of determination not to give up last second. In comparison, Sotskova is a very elegant skater. She is everything that Radionova is not (tidy clean skating), but then again she does not have Radionova's determination to land the jumps. Come on, was it two or three falls at the Europeans? That was pretty bad! She also does not have the expression Radionova has. No will to sell the program. Sotskova does not express to audience, Radionova does. As they are so different from each other, it will boild down to what the judges' preferences are. Those who value elegance will go for Sotskova. The others, who prefer expression and determination to land the jumps will go for Radionova.

Batsuchan, I was also a bit disappointed by Buyanova's interview. But after thinking about it some more, I guess I can understand her loyalty might lie more with Sotskova since she has been with her longer. Also, I was thinking about all the rumors that Buyanova was trying to poach Elena from a couple years ago. It could be that she wanted to dispel the rumors so she was purposely lukewarm about Elena. But yeah, I wish all she said about the subject was "Elena and Maria are both wonderful skaters, with very different qualities and I think practicing in the same rink will improve them both." If she had just said that, I think I would have felt better about Elena's situation. But regardless, I agree with hanca and I think we all know that Elena is a fighter, and that quality will serve her well.

I am kind of sad she isn't getting a new SP, and I honestly would have liked to see Averbukh choreograph for her because interestingly, I think his programs for Elena are actually much better than his programs for Evgenia. But whatever, clearly Averbukh has his own agenda to push, so maybe it's best he's not working with Lena.

Seruleane, I agree with you 100%. I have really loved Averbukh's programs for Lena (and much more than his programs for Evgenia).
It is still kind of early though. It's possible that Lena could still get a new SP. (For reference, she didn't do her SP with Shae-Lynn until late June last year.) I'm still curious to see what Peter Tchernyshev could create for her...

Like you, I would have felt better if Buyanova's comments sounded more balanced. @hanca, I agree with what you said about Lena and Masha's strengths and weaknesses. But I still thought it was strange that Buyanova only mentioned Masha's strengths. It does sound like Masha is her #1 priority, and maybe that is fair, because like Seruleane said, Masha has been with Buyanova longer.

But that is why I'm puzzled. If Lena left Goncharenko because she felt like she wasn't getting enough attention (with Kovtun and Voronov also in her group), then it doesn't seem like being in Buyanova's group is better, since Masha is there. And if she left because she thought Buyanova could give her a politicking boost, then still, it seems like Buyanova prefers Masha...but who knows? Maybe I'm over-analyzing like hanca said...

Well, I have to admit that being in Buyanova's group has its perks...

Buyanova and Sokolovsky's groups are going to be training in Italy starting on June 11:
http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20170525/1120975233.html

That's going to be a lot nicer location than Novogorske! :agree:
Sasha Samarin, Masha, and Ivan Righini (among others) will all be there, and it sounds like Sokolovsky thinks it will be a good sparring opportunity for all of them...
