What is with these adds showing up in my posts?????? Is this going to happen all the time?

If you go into The Edge, there is a pink banner at the top with a message that explains the situation.

Thanks I hardly go into the edge and did not see the thread. I noticed that you have gone Purple, Shoma's favorite color!

I paid the $40, so I wonder if that's why I'm purple? :laugh2: I didn't change my color. It IS a good color tho.

Now you seem to be back to blue but you have a badge of honour or something? The admins clearly enjoy playing around.

Anyway, today's the big day. Cheer extra loud for our dear Shomajesty, Arriba-dear! Btw, there are japanese fans who are sharing your photos on Instagram, in case you didn't know.

Edit: Noo...my avatar and costum title is gone. :( I don't like the badge and the changes to the forum. Probably really high time to leave until the season starts again. :slink:

Help, what's going on? Everytime I take a peek in here something has changed! Seems I'm not worthy of a medal or honour badge yet with less than 500 posts. Can we "earn" this honour by donating? (Like purchasing a doctorate?)

Oh no, where's my deadly gorgeous Yoshitsune avatar?

Anyway, I second demarinis' and MaiKatze's words! Enjoy yourself at the shows, Arriba! It's a privilege to see a world-class skater like Shoma at such a small event. If you can find the time and feel like sharing, I'd love to hear about it afterwards! :)

Edit: Avatars are back! Good grief, this feels like a weird trip (though I've never done heavy drugs in my life!) :dbana:

Arriba, I'm going to the show as well! Do you know if there are any meet and greet opportunities with Shoma before or after the show?

anyways... https://fyshomauno.tumblr.com/post/161364776475/shoma-was-impersonated-in-a-japanese-show-x in complement to Nafetaks picture, Shoma was impersonated on TV!

 It kinda worked until the guy turned his head and it became apparent that he's considerably older than Sho! And not as lean... :scard8:

Many thanks to Cantilover, who translated the latest interview in Quadruple Extra!

Hey sorry to ask this OT question but do some of you who haven't paid have access to the archives?? for how long do you have to be a member before you have access to them? (I am not a member for a very long time so i don't think i have access but idk where the archives are).

There's a thread in the feedback section where you could ask. :)

I'm going to the show as well!

Have fun!!! :yay:

I think only the supporters (paying members) have access to the archive now, while all members could access the archive before. The archived forums are invisible for me. I had one window open the other night from an archived thread and now I don't have permission anymore to view that thread....perhaps people who've been around for over 10 years are in anyway? Idk.

Have fun Skatefan15! And cheer on our Shoma! :hap10:

Hooray! So happy you're going to the show. I am really hoping Shoma will be in the lobby before and/or afterwards and that it will be possible to get a few pictures. I haven't heard of a specific meet and greet thing. The lobby is very small though, so if he's there, you'll know it! It will be SO fun to see him up close. We are in for a treat! Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing that here synesthesia. It's probably my favourite interview of Shoma. For some reason it deeply moved me. He's a mature, smart and intelligent young man. He is harsh on himself and reflective of his past performances. I hope he won't worry too much in the future. Tough, if you dedicate your whole life to figure skating and call that sport 'all you have'. It's probably needed to get to the top, I admire that, but could never see myself in that position. I'm glad that Toyota supports him now, so that he won't have to worry so much in the future.

great great interview and a real dive into his reflexions and personality.
To be honest it made me a bit sad how harsh he was to himself. Being humble and able to see his flows and areas of improvement is great but he seems to be completely unable to acknowledge some of his strenghts and some things he is actually you know... amazing at. Then again, you don't become a champion by throwing flowers at yourself and being complacent but yeah, i feel for him.

Also honestly those questions about Hanyu are tiring. Does everything ever has to be about Hanyu?

TTM and MaiKatze, thank you for your kind words about my posts. I don't think there is anything too special about them -- what IS special and remarkable is our subject matter! Shoma is one of a kind and is such a talent! Everyone else here is so good about posting different links to things that are SO interesting, so I really appreciate that. You are all like detectives! I'm too lazy to do all that so appreciate your posts so much. For me, the best thing about this thread is that it celebrates Shoma without ever having to tear down other skaters. In fact, when other skaters are mentioned, it is in a very positive, respectful manner. I appreciate that so much.

--Daphenaxa, you asked about Shoma's English. Well, I was just happy to hear his voice. When I discovered that I hadn't put the battery in my camera, we all started laughing, and even Shoma went "Ohhh!". He didn't laugh his goofy laugh, it was just the normal laugh! I tried to explain that I had a t-shirt for him that says Nessun Dorma on it, and he didn't understand a word of what I was saying til I got to the words Nessun Dorma. We'll see if he ever wears it. I was called his number 1 fan, and I could tell he understood the word "fan", but I'm sure the rest was a mystery. People really like him and it's very frustrating to not be able to communicate with him...He said at least one (or two?) other words, but I honestly can't remember. His "thank you" pronunciation is getting better and better! :clapper:
--TTM, you asked "is he real?" Yes! He is real! And I have NO idea how or why it happened and what the context was, but for some reason I patted him on the head. :hpull: OMG, that hair! I think I was so mesmerized I have no recollection of why I did that! Yes, he had a little bit of hair wax on.
--Synesthesia, I would love to know if he got the beautiful tie I sent him. He has to be so busy and receive so many gifts that it would be a miracle if he ever wears it. It's really very beautiful, and it would look great with one of those classy black suits he wears. Regarding the Turandot debut, hard to know what he'll do. And I haven't heard anything yet about the debut. Last year he debuted Loco in June and if I remember right, he saved the SP for debut at THE ICE in Nagoya. I think he wanted to do something special in Nagoya. But now this year he's already debuted the short. I would think he would want to debut the long in order to get some "mileage" on it. He's been so busy though. Sheesh, he is a hard worker! I would assume they are still hard at work on both choreographies.
--Shoma demonstrated how to do the 3A twice, and I wish I had a picture of the look on people's faces. The height and ice coverage were unbelievable. He makes everything look so easy, and it is astonishingly difficult!
--I talked to someone who was at Coupe de Printemps in Luxembourg, and he was followed around (relentlessly) by 3 Japanese camera men the entire time. I'm trying to remember if they were filming some special on him or something at that time?
--Coach Fluffy apparently speaks excellent English. (That crafty gal, I don't think I've ever heard her speaking English?)
--Shoma has good taste. He likes hamburgers from Portillo's, one of the Chicago area's best fast food places. www.portillos.com It's my favorite. The one in my town is so crowded at noon that they have police directing the traffic in and out!

Finally, I will be posting less if I see any training sessions. I forget that rinks are private places, unlike attending competition practices which are open to the public. The Winter Prince deserves to have his privacy protected. I'm sure that if there is a way to do it, people who are not his fans will find a way to twist my words (as many already have!) and use my comments against him. So, I will refrain from saying much. However, I am fully committed to attending as many competitions as I can (Sk Can and probably Worlds) and look forward to sharing lots of information about him then. Shoma Fans Unite!

Thank you so much for these detailled reports. I think the bolded part is for the best, you know my opinion on the topic.

As Shoma gets more popular I would hardly be surprised if this is the last time his fans will be able to see him like that. With bigger popularity comes a price and that means less privacy. I'm so happy that you were treated kindly - not only by Shoma but also all the kind people who work at Glacier. This shouldn't be taken for granted. Enjoy these precious moments and keep them to yourself, no need to share them with the public. You totally deserve that.

Edit: Just checked out the site of Portillo's...Mmmh..I'm hungry now for a nice burger. Also want a piece of that Lemon Cake! :)

Loved the mustache on that guy who was supposed to be Shoma. No, that was a dead giveaway!

That cantilover translation was great. It really gave a lot of insight into the Winter Prince!

Thank you so much for the link, synesthesia!! This made my day. His answers here are so mature, I felt so proud of him. I'm not really worried that he doesn't know his worth or that he "only has skating" at this time. Modesty is a common East Asian trait. He knows he's among the top men figure skaters, but he doesn't want to be content and rest on his laurels. He knows he's not perfect and wants to keep on getting better and better. That's very admirable.

I also felt initially that his view may be a little narrow in being focused only on figure skating at this time, but on further reflection, I feel he'll be fine. He mentioned that his ideal self will never be something he achieves because it'll keep changing. I believe this ideal will eventually evolve to include aspects of life beyond figure skating, as he matures and broadens his horizon. He's only 19, which is an age where most people don't have a very concrete plan of what their life will be like in 10-20 years (and even if they did, life usually brings something completely different anyway). He's living in the present while he's able to skate competitively. The future will take care of itself. (Plus, the more competitions he wins, the more money he'll make from the prizes and endorsements, so he'll be set financially for any future plans.)

Thank you so much to everyone for sharing your resources! (Is that the proper word? Lol.) Thank you also to Arriba for your enthusiastic updates! They're a treat to read/view. I completely understand and appreciate your desire to respect Shoma's privacy. I didn't know people previously twisted your words to take a shot at him, but it's unfortunately unsurprising at this point. Let's just take it as an indication of his increasing prominence in the figure skating world.

May you all have a lovely time at the show!

if you're going and if its allowed, please, please, please gift him a lip balm because i have nightmares about how chapped shoma's lips are i genuinely pray and wish for them to get better

Funny you would mention that! A few posts back, I mentioned how he needs Chapstick and Beano. He bites his lips as a nervous habit, so not sure even the Chapstick would help...I notice when I go to competitions how dry my skin and lips and nose feel!

Maybe it has something to do with the ice? Dry air?

So...did you go back in time?
