He always gets lowballed on PCS....sigh.....but still this has been a great season for him.

i mean.. i saw kevin skate at nationals.. he is not the fastest but his choreo is spectacular and caters to his needs perfectly well... he does it brilliantly and he is always in tune with the music. He has improved a lot IMHO and to be in the 70s in PCS at his level is ridiculous...
 
It's great to see Kevin's steady progress. And as much as I am thrilled with our up and coming senior men, I hope he can represent Canada again in the Olympics next year. He's shown he is a clinch competitor.

Given how low he was seeded after having missed entire seasons, and that he's had the challenge of being viewed as a tech skater when the tech level has shot up during his absence, it has been a hard climb to show he's in the game again. The judges are doing him absolutely no favours. He has nothing to regret personally Canada's not getting a third spot for men.

He spoke in his interviews after the SP about how he'd taken the feedback from a less than ideal outing at 4CC into his training, with a focus on SS and eliminating URs. From the protocol on the FS, it looks as though the URs will take more work to eliminate in a stress situation.

And I'm wondering about what opportunities he has to improve his BV. He doesn't do the 3lz in combination, but I'm wondering if he could make it a 4Lz. From what we see from other men, it doesn't seem as great a reach as many thought .... at least for some.

But the great thing to hear is that he's listening to the judges feedback and making the changes needed.

kevin's 3lz was never his best jump.... he was working on the 4loop before... attempted it in competition as well... but i don't know if that is still an option for him with the hip issues.. to add a quad? well he could try the flip? but honestly, his BV is fine. he just needs to skate it well.
 
I thought Kevin did his job today. Too bad together the guys could not pull off the 13 they needed, but it is what it is. Nice to have a good result after all the issues he's had. Kudos, mr. crazy hair.
 
So proud of Kevin - that is the best LP I have ever seen from him. He has improve so much in his whole skating. :yes:

I am gutted for him and Patrick for not getting the 3rd spot for 2018, but I hope they realize that they both did so well here. I think if they stay healthy, they are clearly the top two Canadian men unless Nam and/or Liam get A LOT better.
 
Seeing where Kevin placed, I realized now there's little chance of him being invited to Skate America Because Jason Brown got 7th. I love him also, don't get me wrong, but I seen him skate 3 times. Kevin...none. Either that, or hopefully go to Canada for Canadian Nationals.

But I'm determined to see him skate next season for the reason that it will be his last.

I mean, I can't say it's suprising, I expected it even after Sochi that he would retire after Korea, but it's sounds even more sad when spoken. :cry:

Anyway, really proud of his perfomances at Worlds! Too bad it wasn't enough for Canada to get three spots, but it's nice to see how much Kevin improved even after his boot problems and injuries! To be honest, I thought he would retire in 2015.

I'm not as much as hardcore fan as I used to be and I know Kevin isn't an outstanding skater, but I still like him! Low jumps, weak skating skills, limits in perfoming - I'm aware of all of that, but Kevin still has a special place in my heart, so even though I know he is not one of the best skaters in this quad, it's still great to see him doing great.

Exactly. I know he's doesn't have the best artistry or the best technical skills today. But there's something about him, like you said with you, that makes him special to me. And his determination and perseverance to continue after having hip surgery is very admirable.

After that disaster at 2015 Nationals and finding out he needed to have hip surgery, I kept hoping and praying he would come back and never gave up hope though of course there was a small part of me that worried. But he exceeded what I thought he could do when he came back.

It's even sadder to know how much closer it is now. Like when Sochi happened, I was in my 2nd semester of my freshman(1st) year of college/university. Now I'm in my last semester of undergrad and will graduate with my bachelor's degree in May. And then go to grad school.

I'm so happy he did what he's done so far. And I know the WTT is left, and then one more season.

I wonder, assuming he stays healthy and skates well, what are the chances what Kevin would be selected for the team event at the Olympics.

Do we have any idea what his plans are after skating?
 
His smooth light exquisite skating. His speed and flow out of jumps is breathtaking. Extraordinary skater so musical and wonderful edges
 
Kevin Reynolds appeared in this month's episode of 'What are you doing in Japan?' where interviewers pick 'random' airport arrivals and ask what they are in Japan for. (previously, Jason Brown, Plushenko, and Johnny Weir have been interviewed)
Kevin's Japanese is EXCELLENT. Not entirely without accent, but he speaks fluently, he chooses his words naturally, and speaks without much hesitation. He says he's studying Japanese in University. :points:

I am so happy for him... from host pick last year at SC, with a medal, his first ever GP medal... to all sorts of ups and downs but peaking at worlds when it mattered with a 9th place despite lowballed PCS ... to 2 GP assignments this year and Lake Placid is nice..

you should tell your parents it's time for some TG holidays in LP and that way, everyone is happy... aren't you from the east coast anyways? should be relatively easy for you to go?

I mean it won't be inconvenient. How? 1. At my college/university on the week of Thanksgiving we only have Monday and Tuesday classes so we have Wednesday through Friday off. So I won't have to worry about missing classes beforehand. 2. I THINK Lake Placid is closer to travel to from where I live than say Chicago or Milwaukee (Doesn't hurt that Lake Placid is in the same time zone as me). 3. I won't have to worry about missing classes coming back cause I have no Monday classes for my first semester in grad school.
