2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

omg, they should send to Yulia.

Why should they? First of all between Alena and Yulia we have over 20 girls with SB scores higher than Yulia's. Besides federations decide about replacement and both American and Japanese feds have ladies who are above Yulia in standings but have 1 assignment or none. I know it might be shocking but there are other talented skaters not only Yulia Lipnitskaya

Come on guys, why do we have to tear down one skater and then build her up by tearing down other skaters? :( What value exactly does that add to the conversation?

It would not be the first time they leave out people with better rankings. And Yulia is popular, people want to see her.

The point is does she want to compete ever again? Will he be ready in form for competition? It seems not.

I think you are just trying to get a rise by saying this but you should also keep in mind that federations don't always choose to bring the highest next ranked skater to their events when skaters WD. They might be intersted in bringing in a larger audience via a popular skater and especially if your top priority skaters aren't necassarily threatened by them. I don't have huge expectations for seeing Julia on the GP but I would certainly welcome it :)

Do we know what is happening with Leonova? Is she injured? Did she really give away her GP assignments? If so, why? She's one of my sentimental favs....

As far as any of the people who like her knows, she is preparing for the season with 2 new programs. She has attended 3 training camps this summer and is looking forward to the new season. Per her interview 2 weeks ago. For people who don't like her, she is withdrawing, reason unknown, source wiki.

Is it possible to have both a correct lutz and a correct flip? SO MANY skaters struggle with one or the other.
No hate on zagitova's technical abilities, but does she really have a real lutz and flip, or does she just benefit from the technical callers turning a blind eye to the favorites? It's hard for me to tell if a flip is incorrect or not.

Yes, Zagitova has correct edges on both lutz and flip

I don't understand what's going on with radionova's scores. People either go one of 2 ways on her: BAD skating skills or ,"she's a miraculously beautiful skater". So why is her PCS so high? It's been, like, 67. Even last year when she was struggling. There are so many people who love her, Tatiana Tarasova included, right? That's why I can't count her out of an Olympic spot. She'll probably fight her way into that third spot.
I'm hoping the coaching change works out. She could be great without the awful step sequences and flailing.

Who thinks radionova's comeback will be strong this season?

Tuktamysheva, Zagitova, Radionova, Konstantinova.

Medvedeva is also working to fix her lutz.
I'd say Evgenia's lutz has been constantly improving over the last three years: in her Junior days it was a clear flutz, last season it has been consistently called clean (even receiving +3s). It's still clearly visible that the edge is not neat and precise (even though the way the entrance hides it is really shrewd): it should still receive a "!" most of the times, but there has been an undeniable improvement.

I liken her to one of those intentionally "ugly" sweaters that get real popular around the holidays. Some people genuinely think they're like the greatest, most festive, beautiful things ever...and others are like, no way in hell I'll even touch that. IMO, that's the state of Radionova's presentation at the moment. She's super hyper and kind of all over the place...but I can see how some people are drawn to that. For me, it's cute and enjoyable for a moment, but gets tiresome after a while. Like when you see a bubbly kid at the park running around and screaming for attention and you're like "aww that's cute..." but 20 minutes later it's like "yeah, don't think I would want one of those anytime soon..." Do I think she's a great technician? No. But her grit and ability to always stay in contention is very admirable. I'm happy she switched coaches tbh (although who she switched to is concerning to say the least) because maybe she will become more refined. I think she would be exquisite when toned down a bit, and more polished technically.

But did she get an edge call at the Grand Prix Final last year? That was a clear wrong edge. Why was it ignored?

Why almost everyone's wrong edges were ignored at worlds this year (in the ladies event)? The only ones who mentioned it were commentators from brits esp.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for fair judging but let's not pretend that Evgenia is the only skater who's not getting her edges called
