Kaetlyn Osmond

I never can get enough of Swan Lake so I am happy (I am not so happy about her SP as I can't stand the sound of Summertime - sorry). I think Kaetlyn has everything to make this program truly memorable. I wonder how Alina's version will be looking in comparison, not too good is my guess - no disrespect to Alina but her artistry is just not there yet

I think that it also depends on if Alina's take will be fully 'classical', tutu et all. And she's doing SP to this while Kaetlyn is doing FS, so I won't even notice probably the comparison factor myself, as I will look into each skater and program individually.

Wow, I feel that Kaetlyn will nail her FP :drama: Here's a sneak peak of it. https://www.instagram.com/p/BWardDFBfKs/?taken-by=kaetkiss

Kaetlyn does look in a great shape and it is only July! ...touch wood...
As I am a new here (but a great fan of Kaetlyn) I have a question: I am mesmerised by her jumps and in particular how she can go off axis and get back on in the air, is is a special technique, a 'flaw' in technique or just a mistake she is able to correct?

I think opening her body and legs before landing enables it. Many ladies land their jumps while rotating, and when the axis goes off, different directional forces break their balance. In the case of Kaetlyn's lutz and flip, she stop the rotation in the air then she just has to care about keeping balance. Of course, there is no evidence.

Wow, such a warhorse, but I'm SO excited about this! She has the intensity, musicality and elegance to pull Swan Lake off, I think!

I think you're spot on Rubono. I remember Ryan Bradley from Universal Sports, saying the same thing; that Kaetlyn comes out of all her triple jumps so early, it was like others doing a single jump, resulting in those textbook landings.

Wow, this is really amazing to think about, considering that all of this happens in the span of a split second.

^^^:jaw: Fabulous! Sure hope the rest of it is as amazing as this short clip. The speed and power look awesome!

I saw this 2A3T clip on TSL instagram yesterday reposted and well - Kaetlyn looks solid and means business, that's for sure. There is something special for me in a way Kaetlyn 'attacks' her content - she does it in such energetic manner, with such abandon and freedom feeling in it. And there is always an elegance, maturity and fluidity in her movement, bearing the speed and energy she's skating with. I do think that 'Swan Lake' program will be very 'hers' and not taken so literal, balletic and classical in terms of music interpretation/movement - for me, Mao actually did the best classic interpretation of 'Swan Lake' back in 2012/13 season and I feel that Kaetlyn will capitalize more on the power of music, power/impact of character than on literal remake of it and make it as her own.

That's exactly how I feel about it! I was slightly disappointed with Kaetlyn's choice at first though I love Swan Lake to death (and btw my favourite of all time is Sasha Cohen's) as I felt something more modern would suit Kaetlyn better but now I can't wait to see it!

glad to hear that Tutto:):ghug:

for me personally, this attack, energy, power Kaetlyn is skating with, regardless of program, music, theme are one of her best and most valuable qualities. Those are virtues you have or not, and she has them innate, both considering her technique/content and interpretation/presentation areas. From my personal observations, she never takes music/theme of the program too literal or too abstract - she takes them as they are and make them impactful, powerful, meaningful in her own, charming and elegant way of a mature skater. There's that distinct feel of ease and continuity watching her, not to be confused with consistency, because for me those are different subjects. Kaetlyn's skating, even with falls, represents for me no hesitation, no overembelishing by movement, gestures and creates 'united' image, very cohesive between to what she skates and how she skates. She's very fortunate to have such great team around her and programs so well-constructed and complimentary to her artistic aesthetic and way of expression.

^^^ Thank you NoNameFace and Tutto, for these observations. You both write with such thought and clarity, the many things I have often considered but have not been able to articulate. For me, Kaetlyn demonstrates innate JOY on the ice and this is a precious quality that only a few skaters possess.

I agree with you NoNameFace regarding her amazing Team, and like you Tutto, I cannot wait to see the debut of Black Swan!

likewise, Osmond4gold - great job of being such fierce and dedicated ambassador of Kaetlyn and Canadian skating in general:)

You pointed another great feature of Kaetlyn and her skating - a joy, authentic and unmasked, she's performing with. This authenticity, honesty in joyful performing Kaetlyn presents really affects audience and reception of her programs I feel. And Kaetlyn's joy is nothing of fake, superficial smile plastered on a face 5 seconds before program starts, because choreography says so - there is a natural positivity and enthusiasm radiated from Kaetlyn, not only from her infectious smile, but whole attitude. Her career, story set a positive, inspiring example to follow mostly because she stays so positive, energetic and hungry for life.

And just to add one general remark - for me, it's very easy to write about certain skaters which inspire me and give me a rich food for thought:)

what i have noticed, and of course, i am not the only, is that Kaetlyn is so fit and strong in the off-season. Even last year, when we could see a clear progress, she wasn't as fit over the summer. She didn't have her 3-3 yet until the fall, she didn't have the spring in her jumps nor the attack. Every time she leaks clips, i get super excited !!!! I think her programs will be gorgeous and that she will be able to skate solidly very early on in the season.

I, for one, am excited to see Kaetlyn's interpretation of Black Swan. I'm really excited about this piece for her and feel like she can bring fierceness with the character she is playing on the ice.

Thank you Osmond4gold! But all credit should go to NoNameFace whose eloquence I admire so much :luv17:

I don't know if it was posted before but I found a praise for Kaetlyn from an unexpected source and thought you might like to read it. Elena Buianova, a coach of Elena Radionova & Maria Sotskova (and formerly Adelina's) mentioned her in this interview when talking about competition in the ladies discipline:

http://www.fsrussia.ru/intervyu/2993-elena-buyanova-u-nashikh-sportsmenok-silnyj-kharakter.html

''Osmond is a combination of power, ease & maturity. When our paths cross in practices before the competitions, watching her jumps I seem to experience with her that power, that spring''

thank you so much Tutto for the praise, but as I said many times - all real credits go to inspiring skaters like Kaetlyn and inspiring users whose knowledge, enthusiasm and insightfulness are one of a kind, which goes to you Tutto as well:):ghug:

and Buianova is right - Kaetlyn's powerfulness is very impactful and easy to feel out, even seeing her only in TV
