And the twizzles were already eliminated from ice dance?

Eliminated or not S&K finished in exactly the same place in the dance pecking order at the 2016 Worlds as S&B did in 2017. S&K were ninth, without V&M or B&S in the competition & with Coomes & Buckland. S&B were tenth with V&M and B&S in the competition & without Coomes & Buckland. New season. New programs. Europeans are in Russia. Wait & see.

You must do them well! It should be the foundation of any team. If you don't have good twizzles you may as well not be an ice dancer anymore. So when a team is being formed the very first thing tested should be twizzle coordination. I would even say ice dance coaches could be renamed twizzle coordinators.

Nonsense. You have no idea how this works, do you? Or you're trolling.

You can't argue against twizzles having an extreme and overwhelming importance.

You can't argue with Katsalapov's bronze Olympic medal.

And I didn't say they're unimportant. Read better.

She also insisted on the 'modern rock waltz', flowers in her hair in 'Frida' FD, Najarro choreography for Frida. It's only from the latest. Nothing of this really worked.

Yeah, right.

Ruslan and their coaches agreed to do that modern rock waltz, so it wasn`t just Elena making this decision. Besides, Najarro worked very well for them for their Carmen Short Dance, so it is understandable that they thought he is the right person to choreograph Frida for them. I agree, that a lot of mistakes were made in this partnership, which prevented them to really breakthrough, but this is all in the past now. They are done and hopefully Elena and her coaches learned from their past mistakes.

Anyway, last week the test skates for the Junior Ice Dancers were held. https://www.instagram.com/mihail_sharov/

I`m really looking forward to the JGP. I expect S/S, S/A and P/V to be in contention for a Junior World medal, although it`s going to be tough to beat Carreira/Ponomarenko.

That's when he did twizzles well. So if he did twizzles competently all the time he would be world champ and euro champ
And gpf medalist instead of having a broken career now.

She said it was her idea, all of them said it, and I believe she can be quite persistent. But I don't blame her, it was pure coaches' mistake. You don't let your students teach you how things work. That was one of the reasons Elena and Nikita parted ways with Zhulin. But he had 'Birds', so... I really hope all of them have learned from this.

Is it confirmed that Ilinykh/Shibnev will participate at test skates, by the way?

You actually only prove my point. There's much more in ice dance than just twizzles. And Nikita has it, and many others who have twizzles don't :confused2:

It was confirmed in this article that they will skate at test skates http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20170802/1123680880.html

There is also already a short video of them skating together https://rutube.ru/video/48208e0741c68c5a890edde2aaa1a7fd/

Except, if you screw up the twizzles, you are out of the competition! You can't lose 4 or 5 points on the twizzles and remain competitive.
So how can you depend on a team where in 1 comp out of 5 on average, he screws up the twizzles and loses 4 or 5 points and is out of the running?
10th in Europeans for a Russian top team is just embarrassing.

I don't see how Zhulin will fix the twizzles when everyone else has failed.
It appears that Zhulin is putting all his energies into S/K, and that will impact B/S negatively.
I also fear for the Zhulin team programs after last season.

So for these reasons, I am backing S/B as Russia's No. 1 team, CoR will be very telling.

However, S/B for me, are only the younger version of B/S, good and reliable, but nothing special.

Wow you stay classy. And people wonder why we have to come defending anyone that isn't Elena...:rolleye:

So, now not only Katia and Alexandra that are bad dancers, Dmitri is too? And is Anton strong, capable, elegant and have good technique, yet he never accomplished nothing of anything?

Let's reach a bit less, please. At least give Anton and her some time before the fandom do the work of embarrassing them before they even skate. Let's not make the same mistakes that have been done for Elena and Ruslan in the past.

You talk as though you don't already know this to be a fact. But more importantly many ice dancers from Russia don't dance, they just do synchronized skating very powerfully. Let's not have to have this conversation again, really? That's one of the main differences between them and the rest of the world now. But this is my opinion and I am entitled to it. Thank you :)

Next thing, I haven't seen I/S skate so I cannot comment. So if you read between the lines carefully, you'd realize that my comment was a hypothetical. Now as I've mentioned before, when you weren't reading, I/S will not be a factor this year. Too much has been invested in B/S, S/K and S/B over these last four seasons. They are the focus this season. I/S's responsibility this year is to become an ice dance couple. So please don't go putting words in my mouth. They have only been together for little over a month, why are we having hysterics over them? Why aren't we instead hearing rumours of the great programs of those couples who have been together for 17, 10 and 4 years? Let's get real here. :)

People his twizzles were just adequate, Lena's with the exception of EC were golden, so they gave him a pass. Go back and watch,

I wonder if we'll see Popova/Mozgov at test skates?

I don't need to read between the lines when you're almost shouting your very pointed comments. You said what you said, own it at least. No need to backtrack now. Any man is going to become the next best thing for Elena as long as she skates. Ruslan was suddenly better than Nikita when they started sktaing together, and now Anton is being regarded as such. I said it once, I'll say it again. Stop reaching. Let them skate. You just compared Anton to Alexandra and Dmitri, whose careers speak for themselves. They don't need hyping at all, they've shown results - still not what we'd want from the Russian ID, but better than anyone else. It is what it is.

Twizzles are an element of the programs, imagine seeing a team constantly messing up their step sequences, their lifts or their spins.
When Maia and Alex aborted their twizzles in the 2012 World Cup they lost all points of the element, the same for Zach this year, and Evan B. lost a bunch of points as well. When Kaitlin H. fell on their lift in Finlandia they lost all the points, when Lorraine Macnamara ruined her step seq (jr. worlds 2017) they were severely penalized. No team aspiring to medals can afford to ruin their elements at every competition. Plus S/K are not so extraordinary in the other areas, their lifts have severe problems, they got level 1 and 2 in their step seq in European 2017, artistically they are nothing special and their programs are always forgettable and now they are back in Russia from where we have not seen very memorable programs lately, especially from Zhulin teams. If at least they could correct their twizzles, they could disguise the rest of their deficiencies, whatever they do on the ice, a judge may try to convince us that they can achieve a step seq level 4, but how could they try to convince us that they are doing good twizzles, there is nothing to disguise, errors are too obvious in that element .

 The things we reveal in the things we say. Wowza. Adios, ciao, hasta la vista, nos vemos!! It has been interesting.:rolleye:

Well, Chock & Bates blew their twizzles at Nepela, Rostelecom, and Worlds last year. That's 3 of 8 competitions and doesn't count their fall at the GPF or the miss on the double twizzle at WTT. Anyone think they do not have a chance of making the Olympic team? (They could sure make the Russian one, IMO).

If you really do a number on the sequence, it's a big miss and it has happened to Nikita during some mighty important competitions. More often, though, S&K have a smaller deduction as has happened to a plethora of athletes in the sport. Hence, Sinitsina & Katsalapov are not the current favorites to make the team.

But they have a chance. They finished in the exact same place in the World dance pecking order at the 2016 Worlds as Stepanova & Bukin did last season. S&K were 9th without B&S or V&M in the lineup, but with Coomes & Buckland present. S&B were 10th with B&S and V&M in the lineup, but without Coomes & Buckland present. Personally, I think S&B are on their way up. But S&K have a chance. They are what I would call a wildcard.
