Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

For Seimei I do believe that, but still - we don't know what would've happened if he had the same success with Hope & Legacy that he had with Seimei. I like the combination of Chopin and Seimei, but I think Let's go crazy & Seimei would've been more daring.

I think we'd have seen repeat LGC and Seimei or new SP and Seimei if he hadn't had the issues he had with LGC last season. He's bringing back Chopin so he stops having the 'I'm bad at SP' feeling he was experiencing by WTT.

I don't want to see Let's Go Crazy at the Olympic. That purple pants hurt my eyes. And I am sure most audience will call it a horrible costume.
Lucky it's Chopin this time.

Wait, some of you actually believe there won't be a 4Lz come the start of the season?

Gosh, you'd think you're meeting Yuzuru for the first time or something.

Hahaha, I was quite fond of the White costume.
Chopin I feel will still be a blend of white and blue. Great colors. :agree:

err...he may practice with it I think. But I am also doubtful of it's addition to SEIMEI. Yuzuru is the type to push the envelope but he is at the same time wise. Yuzuru could still achieve massive scores without it. But if there's a 4lz, it's also great, otherwise he can experiment with it at WTT or next season or something.

Won't he get new costumes for both programs?

We just have different perceptions of him and his game plan, that's all. *shrug*

It's not like either of us actually knows him and his innermost thoughts and plans. We'll see soon enough about the 4Lz, though (or the absence of it).

Is he playing mind games or what? I keep thinking that the final layout will be the actual, but well... it doesn't make much sense practicing the 4lz in the Olympic season if he doesn't plan to bring it.:drama:

I think he will bring 4lz by AC already, if not by second half of season for sure, maybe Nationals.
He is saying "I am able to jump the lz and at practice I've been doing it well, but I'm not considering it right now."

"The tinterpretation" of the quote might be "I'll make sure I can handle second half quads well and when I do I will add lutz" ( my assumption )

So basically your perception of him is that the person who has pushed the sport for years and has had a certain philosophy throughout, has suddenly decided that he is going to leave his destiny in the hands of other people, right in the Olympics season? Because that is what that boils down to.
But all right.

I think Hanyu will do 4lz. He put two 3A in the open practice, and he didn't bother practicing 3lz. One might think Hanyu needs to practice 3A more than 3lz? Well... 3A is the jump he can do in his sleep. Isn't it funny he doesn't practice 3lz at all?

hello Seimei 2.0, i would be lying if i say i am not upset even little bit but i am at peace with his decision, as others said repeating a program doesnt make it any less awesome, and as long as he doesnt give judges a reason i dont see his scores being affected by repeating, sure i wish he repeated only one programs but surely there will be "fresh" moments as well, go for the gold Yuzu!!:yahoo:

about 4Lz, i feel like he wont include it since he keeps mentioning "skating clean all the time" and "staying injury free" and putting it middle of the season is even riskier but you never know when it comes to Yuzuru

@Ender I think he wants you to believe he's practicing his 4lz to stabilize his 3Lz, thus praciticing 3Lz right now is unnecessary

In all seriousness though, in my perception Yuzu is smart and knows CoP. He knows doing 5 quads with 3 different ones barely gives him additional BV, potentially less GOE given he has to take out one 3A (which is his money jump), but it's a lot riskier. More work & risk for basically no reward? Yeeeeeeaaaahhh..... no. Without 4Lz, it would stay at 4 quads. I admire his straight face through talking about that 1x 3A layout though. Respect

I forgot about that gem, that was probably one of the best things to have ever come out of his mouth  He is such a fabulous troll, hope he plays poker.

On the other note, I noticed he seems to focus on emphasizing his edges in movement and the flow of his blade more, it was obvious in the flow out of his jump. His arm position during jumping seems to change a bit as well, it's more wider now. But he seems solid overall. Can't wait to see what happen in AC just month away.

Agreed! It's obvious from the cmparison. https://youtu.be/z8etKm2ylgs
He's made much more progress than i thought. I'm so happy.

Repetetion is normal and I havent the doubt of scoring so far. What's important is FS is his strong decision. It's best he feels comfortable with the program! I feel gratitude that he had already had 2 briliant programs in the past towards Olympics! Go yuzu!.

The sanspo article above

Hanyu, who announced his programs for the Pyeongchang Olympic season, responded to questions from the press with a sunny expression.

–––– Both the SP and the FP are repeats from the past. Were there any doubts regarding your choices?
“I may have been a little hesitant with the SP, but for the FP, I’ve thought to use it before last season started.”

–––– About bringing 4Lz into your program(s)…
“I’m able to jump [4Lz] and practice is going fairly well, but I’m not considering it for now. I’ll [first] settle everything nicely with the current layout.”

–––– Both SP and FP were programs with which you got the world’s highest scores. [Do you feel that] you must go beyond that?
“I don’t feel too much pressure. [The programs] are extremely pleasant to skate to. Jumps, spins, steps––it is a program where I can skate like myself with all of these elements, and not have to think about unnecessary things.

–––– What is necessary in order to defend an Olympic victor
“The most important thing is to skate cleanly. If I am able to do that, the results will come. I want to power up.”
