2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

If y'all don't think Kaetlyn can do fierce, you must've missed her SP last season. More subtly fierce than overt fierceness, but I think she can push that further for the gritty fierceness of Black Swan. No, she's not especially balletic, but she has far better posture than Alina. I don't think Alina has bad posture off-ice, and there's no doubt that she trains ballet, but she keeps her back bent over while skating in order to help generate speed. But I do think Alina will be able to effectively channel the frenzied madness of Black Swan quite well (that sounds like me throwing shade, but it's 100% not, I promise).

But it doesn't really matter because it's already clear that fans will find reasons to justify why their fave's Black Swan is better, no matter what they look like.

OMG, the madness of Black Swan?:palmf: You know, if Alan-Whoever made this film, Black Swan, the music is still all Tchaikovsky, the ballet is still Swan Lake, the story not about some crazy character. Alan made just the arranging of the warhouse, that's why this film wasn't awarded for music. And to call Alina good at performing madness, like in the film, is just not a compliment, that's for sure...I liked Wagner's Swan from about recent programs - I absolutely saw no crazy character there:disapp:

Well, to be fair, it's not like Osmond couldn't hold her own were she competing in Russia. After all, she beat 2 out of 3 of Team Russia team at Worlds - and with mistakes in her FS, at that.

Yeah, I get it, it's nice that she doesn't face the same pressure - but that could be a bad thing too... having stiff competition domestically drives you to be better and more prepared internationally and appreciative of every international assignment.
Oh, don't start here. She won with mistakes not because of her being superior with mistakes, but because almost everybody made mistakes. We didn't see her clean skating vs clean Anna., so don't put it like this, her medalling with mistakes over someone from Russia as an arguement. But, yeah, she is very strong.

2017-18 State of RUSSIAN Ladies skating

sooooooooooo
looks like Stasya and her coach decided that 2 JGP is better than 1 GP. :scratch2:

Actually, you did Samkrut, in your Post #571, stating that Osmond does not have to "earn a spot". By the way, they all have to earn their spot!

OK, may be it was an overkill but realistically who can have 3 Canadian spots but Osmond, Daleman, and Chartrand? I can say the same about Medvedeva: she does not have to earn a spot - it is presumably given.

What I did not start here is comparing who is a better skater, Osmond or someone from the Russian squad. It is not only fruitless - it brings the unnecessary tension. We have competition threads for that.

So, Elena Radionova has anounced her music, I'm very happy with her choice, latin music suits her, but it seems the program is going to have a fast part when the step sequence begins, I really want to see her program! I wouldn't count Radionova out of the Olympics list, I think this year she is going to give competition in Russia. What do you think?

And like every other nation, Canada has national championships that will determine our three selections, nothing is ever presumably given. As an example, over the last 3 years, we have had 3 different champions crowned, and currently other senior ladies and a crop of juniors, are anxious to take their next steps. For some on here to bemoan Canadian women and say that Kaetlyn or Gabby do not have to rightfully earn their spot, is short-sited and a misnomer.

Now back to the state of Russian Ladies Skating.

Black swan by Tchaikovsky is mad? Since when???????

The most liked comment under recent "Sports.ru" article about Osmond sums it up quite nicely:
hmm i decided not to see her prog that early but funny comment
(nothing could top GG Fire bird in lulz for me :dev3:)
I do like Kaetlyn (despite being scared by her fans:laugh:)
Her SP last season is 1 of my faves so I hoped 1 of this year's programms can be as flirty & breezy as that one/

As for Swan Lake its a matter of preference. I adored Stasya's onefrom last season but remember how many haters that programm had.
She already had awesome speed & power then & I cant imagine how she improved judging by comments from test skates!!:yahoo:

not a fan of Alina at all but I sure hope that she can improve & surprise me :hopelessness:

offtop:cool:
but this season of GoT has some spectacular music btw! can't help but think what music Polina could have added to her programm!! Especially that 'Rains of Castamere' military march rendition from the attack on Highgarden scene!!!

I'm talking about the parts of the music that are very fast, dynamic, and yes, frenzied, though maybe madness was the wrong word.

Who did? The Russian media?
Also, does this mean they're criticizing both GG's Firebird and Kaetlyn 's Swan? (I have to admit I'm not a fan of her Firebird)
No, just some fan wrote a sassy comment "Osmond is as much of a swan as Gold is a firebird".

Osmond got 218.13. Which is higher than any score Anna posted last season, or ever. Even combining Anna's personal best SP + LP equates to 217.57.
