Yulia Lipnitskaya

There's nothing secret she's working on. The only thing her silence tells is is she's more focused now on her recuperation from her injuries and potentially, working on new programs for the upcoming season. Maybe she just got tired of being in the public eye. I feel like if she was going to quit (which I'm not against), she would have announced it already. But until she does the test skate, I don't think we'll have an answer. It's not like she's secretly developing some killer weapon like a quad or something.

Unless something terrible happens to the rest of the team, I really don't think we'll see Yulia at the Olympics this year. But, I think if she can return to Sochi form, she at least has a shot for the reserve team. It doesn't matter to me. Just let us see her skate again (and maybe some bew programs as well).

She never liked being in the public eye anyway.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again now - as far as I'm concerned, until she herself announces her retirement, she hasn't retired.

It must be tiring to be in the public eye and considering the reactions she got because she wasn't thin anymore I think it was for the best to keep away and focused on recovering and not in what the public was/is thinking of her.

I think the same thing, she hasn't said she's retiring so anything we say it's either speculation or rumours. I'll wait until SHE confirms or denies it.

new interview with eva magazine, it's quite short and she talks mostly about her new apartment:

it really does seem like she'll be retiring from the sport soon.

"I need to study and devote time to developing myself as a person, to look for some directions in which I will be comfortable besides sports."

Yes, it does sound like that. This is devastating but I hope for the best for her. It seems that she won't fully detach herself from skating though, so maybe she will still do ice shows? I hope so. Ugh I can't help that I feel sad, but I wish her the best.

Edit : Welcome, stormskyress, post often!:)

thank you for the welcome! i've been a long-time lurker and hopefully i'll be able to post often.

if she does retire, i hope she does ice shows. it would be such a shame to see her career end this way.

I don't think I've ever seen this.

Interesting camera angle because it's almost at ice level so we get a different look at her skating and wow...they really changed up the choreography from here until she made it to the JWC. This seems a bit disjointed but...its vintage Julia and let's face it.....baby Julia is very fun to watch!!

Thanks, Sam! I've watched both SP and FS, and it's incredible how fast Julechka was on the ice  And no hesitation on the jumps!

If only she has just o n e m o r e s e a s o n, but whatever makes her happy and healthy is top priority in my mind. I just hope she doesn't completely disappear tho, or get off the ice forever.

I was certain that she was not going to be back this season. I thought she just hadn't announced her retirement (and wouldn't until after the test skates) so that she wouldn't lose sponsors, but I'm not that sure anymore! Sure, it's a stretch, but yesterday she liked a bunch of photos on instagram of her skating, one of them even said something along the lines of "We know you're trying, that you're working hard". I don't know, it could be nothing but I'm hoping she's giving it one last chance

Could someone give an accurate translation of this post? It was a question from her ask.fm
Как это мало одной любви? Разве это не важно? Да есть сборная, есть ОИ, ЧМ, но на этом же все не заканчивается)) можно выступать и на различных шоу, разных ЛП и так далее... Мы везде тебе будем рады)) Вероника Светлова

To which she replied "Я не хочу шоу и разные ЛП"

From google translator it seems like she's saying she wouldn't do shows? I'm not trusting it though...

You are right, she doesn't.

How, love only is not enough? Is it not important? Yes, there are national team, OG, WC, but it does not end there)) You can perform at different shows, different Ice Ages (TV show) and so on ... We will be glad to see you everywhere)) Veronika Svetlova

I do not want shows and different IAs.

A huge part of Julia's appeal is her lack of interest in being in the spotlight. Before the Olympics she was so low key and then during the media storm she never really understood the hype about her and just butted heads with the reporters or rolled her eyes at her fame. What we love so dearly about her and what she represents is also what may one day lead her away from public attention. It's alright....she made a huge mark on the sport and inspires many to this day. I can speak from experience that she inspired me to make myself a better and stronger person.

I will support her in retirement or if she continues. I pray she continues but....well...I'm not hopeful. She's competed heavily on the top levels since she was 10. We can't really ask much more.

For anyone itching for some Julia skating maybe check this out. Here is one of the first videos I ever edited (sorry I didn't understand high resolution fully yet). Of course I chose Julia as my subject and if I'm not mistaken it was called Julia5000 because it was my 5000th post at GS so I wanted to dedicate it to her. Lol...I'm so nerdy like that :p
