It's so bad how in 2017 with modern ijs ice dance bobrova can stand on two feet and be doing nothing several times. That is total failure and must be thrown out. It's the worst way of what seems to be project good posture which is the major complaint about her. They must throw out all standing still. It looks awful.

Last season Zhulin said in a interview how impressed he was about V/M skating so much on two feet, and it was true. Though V/M have other qualities of which B/S lack, so convenient for B/S to try copy the weakness of one team and not their strengths.

The non-Zhulin teams have the best choreo Russian ice dance has had in a long time.

P/M, Z/G and even I/S have programs that marry the best of the old dramatic style of Russian ice dance with the demands of IJS. We have waited for this for years, but unfortunately these aren't the teams with the best skating skills or the backing of the Federation, so I guess we won't see any of it past December.

I love how these quotes marry each other so well. Can we talk about two years ago when Frida happened? And how it was lauded as the best thing that happened to Russian ID in years? How much it matters to have so-called good programs when they don't really pan out? When the skaters, as you put it well, don't have the skating skills to match?

Let's not doom these teams before they even start their season. You can see the improvement in all of them, yes, but we'll have to wait until the competition comes to see how they'll fare. (I'll add that Kustarova really steped up this year, after seasons of poor packaging)

Also, it's impossible not to see how Zhulin went all Montreal on B/S's FD, but I can't see how this won't become a standard program for them. Alas, either doing high drama, contemporary trash or anything in the middle they'll never be enough for some people, so YMMV.

Maybe v/m can get away with skating on two feet in zhulins head but no way can b/s have a program where she stands still on two feet! It's hard to call this the worst program of their careers after the birds disaster but it's very close as bobrova stands completely still several times. Bad decision. It's also a bad program because people need explanation she's blind. If you need to explain anything it's horrible. That era of ice dance is dead!

It seemed pretty obvious to me even from the low quality video I watched today.

yes, I think it is pretty obvious. It is not something so complex like ¨ experiencing clinical death¨. My problem with them, is that Ekaterina is having again terrible posture and yes, especially all the skating on two feet :disapp:

Quite frankly I've never seen what the fuss about these two has been about. And this free isn't going to make me change my mind.

The lifts are ATROCIOUS. Every single one of them. They look both half-hearted and belabored. The first position in the dance spin should be called "Momentum Killer" -- and they never recover that momentum for the next positions.

I can't remember a single bit of that choreography. Seriously. Not one bit. And I just watched it 10 minutes ago.

Just a mess.

I love watching Bettina Popova with whoever her partner is. She gives 110% to every routine and is a passionate ice dancer to watch.

One poster from FSU mentioned that there was apparently an injury. I guess those aren`t their full lifts or just placeholders.

Well that's good because I felt exhausted watching them, not from an excess of emotion, but because, well, belabored to the nth degree.

S/B's short dance has a least a little polish to it, but Latin is not their forte. She still skates like a Barbie doll, and it still looks like Bukin is dragging her around at points. The beginning is actually nicely crisp, but that's also the problem for most of the rest of the dance. The required pattern. Oy. It should be like fingertips on slick skin: smooth and flowing and sensual and sexy. That...wasn't. Let's just leave it at that. You can't get much flow IF YOU DON'T BEND YOUR KNEES.

A really good Latin dance should leave an audience member fanning him/herself. That didn't generate much in the way of heat, now did it?

I'm getting very tired of this generalization. More importantly, the dancers need to move like it's Latin dance. I've seen a whole lot of teams trying to generate heat this season, and frankly they are generally just blending together. It typically just comes off looking false. (Go Anna & Luca! I have faith). But this is not the only way to perform a Latin program. S&B have a youthful, entertaining style. Which is better for them. While I agree that the program lost it's grip on me after the first section, at least I remember the first section which is more than I can say for most of the teams we have seen thus far. I agree that something must be done to improve the middle section, but I don't care if they generate heat. Entertain us! It's something they do very well. I think there's potential here.

you know its a sad state when the current russian juniors have better programs and choreograhies than the current seniors. I think its time to adapt that Stepanova / Bukin are not the hopes that Tat seems to hype. Hopefully this is a transition phase only and soon will get better like the 2007-2010 years when the russian ladies were weak.

Even if a person gets it immediately she is doing very cliche blindness and why portray blind at all? Why not just do ice dancer? All North Americans play ice dancer!

I actually like the programs of juniors more (S/S, S/E, K/Y) than those.

and may I say they are more cop friendly too !

# Shpilevaya / Smirnov - refined, nice skating skills (only fix the levels)
# Konkina / Yakushev - fast, agile, technical (just don rush things) maybe Stepanova can learn from Konkina on how to skate fast and bend legs, height is not an issue !!
# Shevchenko / Eremenko - very italian type of skating should I say and kind of non russian traditional skaters.
# Polischuk / Vakhnov - the lady partner is better than senior Loboda in skating skills.

How could they be at worlds and do this? They see what wins gold and medals and places in the top 5. How can they do no transitions and have so much two foot skating? And why are there twizzle so slow? This is a the problem in representing Russia. You do things the Russian way. That doesn't win anything! They all need to face facts and start copying North Americans. Abolish influence of tarasova zhulin kustarova. They could learn a lot from hubble and Donahue and carerra ponomarenko and etc

I think 1 quadrennial should be enough to progress but I don't see any from them and have become stagnant, Stepanova is at her max I think
and height is not an issue. Konkina who is the same build as Stepanova can bend her legs and skate fast !! its a technique issue

see Konkina's knee bends, https://youtu.be/G5EDpp0w5yA?t=257

B/S is on a spiritual journey to bore at least me out of my mind. S/K's programs are fine but Nikita is skating too well for Sinitsina to catch up. Katastrophe awaits. Might as well let Popova/Mozgov have a go for a PR campaign of true Russian style OTT drama since no one is going to challenge for a medal anyway.
