This was probably not a surprise, but still sad. I'm hoping that he can still return to Nationals. With no competition assignments, he'll have to compete at a regionals/sectionals. Josh would be in the Southwestern regional, which is Oct. 11-15.

The definite nail would be if we don't see him at sectionals (I think USFS can still provide byes through regional pretty easily). The Midwestern Sectionals is scheduled for Nov. 14-18. NHK, however, is Nov. 10-12 (which would have given him a bye through sectionals).

I think being on the ISP grants a bye to sectionals.

No it's not!! Joshua is one of the few skaters that I have seen live on more than one occasion. He was brilliant as a Junior and spectacular as a Senior. I have left him off my prediction lists because I really don't know what to expect from him. I wish him the best and I am really looking forward to seeing him again at Nationals.

I love his skating so much! It's just beyond heartbreaking to have dealt with his retirement, then get excited for the comeback, only for it to really seem like maybe the comeback won't really happen.

I know I'm being overly pessimistic and negative and whiny. He's my favorite men's skater. The discipline has felt a little empty without him in it. I'm just a sad fan.
 
Dave lease has said Joshua has not been in the rink since June... he's not always credible but that sounds worrying.

I'm very worried about Joshua. He's always been very private about his training but, I remember seeing a quick clip of him jumping and then he disappeared again. I wonder if he has injured himself and for him to withdraw from the NHK, makes me believe that what Dave is saying might be true.

Who knows if/when he is recovered and returns to skating. He and Christy/Damon stay in the same radio silence even when he was in 100% training mode.

Not really. They probably waited until the last moment that they definitely knew that he wouldn't have enough time to get ready for an event like NHK Trophy.

It is worth mentioning that there is the time that a decision is MADE, and then the time a decision is ANNOUNCED. I wouldn't assume that the announcement reflects a decision just made, but rather reflects more a deadline for announcing it. The presence of skaters not originally given Grand Prix assignments at US Champs Camp was a hint.

Very disappointed all the same. Gorgeous skater.
 
Why would ISU wait to announce it? The replacement skater needs to be notified as quickly as possible.

I don't know why they wait. But the evidence suggests that they do sometimes notify athletes well before making an official announcement. It certainly looks like Cain & Le Duc (and USFSA) knew they were getting the replacement spot on the GP well before it was announced. It is very likely why C&LD were invited to Champs Camp. (Usually athletes that are chosen late off the replacement list do not receive an invitation to Champs Camp).
 
Could those of you who want to discuss ISU rules regarding withdrawal and replacement of skaters from competition - as opposed to US men - please start another thread. Thanks.
 
Alexei Krasnozhon is certainly having a good season on the Junior GP. He just Won the SP at the Croatia Cup and has a 4 point lead going into the Free. Good luck!!
 
Welcome to the 80+ club, Alexei! :cheer:

Alexei is the fourth U.S. man to score an 80+ international SP score this season, along with Max Aaron, Jason Brown and Nathan Chen (who is also a member of the 90+ club atm). (Grant is so close!!!)

I was very impressed with his skate today.

ETA: And Alexander Johnson smashed his PB to join the 80+ club with an 82.55 at Nebelhorn Trophy and is in second place after the SP. We might have a new dark horse....

I'm so happy for Alexander Johnson at Nebelhorn!!! :yay: He's been on my list for a long time as a possible contender here in the US. :cheer:
