Are there non russian teams training in Russia? I just know about W/P and Sara and Kirill. We will see Sara and Kirill next week in Finlandia.

Are there non russian teams training in Russia? I just know about W/P and Sara and Kirill. We will see Sara and Kirill next week in Finlandia.
Well... If you pretend neither of those teams actually CHOSE their training location, you can then claim that the reason they train in Russia is that the Canadian & Spanish Feds FORCED them to go there because they favour Gilles/Poirier & Smart/Diaz, respectively, and want to SABOTAGE WeaPo & Hurtado/Khaliavin!!! Clearly it's all evil politicking and CONSPIRACY!!!!how dare they train in russia ? I guess they will lose levels and wont win a podium.

So will you eat your words when B/S win bronze in the Olympics in February?
They already came 3rd in the FD at worlds last season ( and have a stronger FD this season IMO)
They are also currently No. 1 in the ISU rankings.

Sofia Shevchenko and Igor Eremenko have qualified for the JGPF as the first of probably 4 Russian teams. Congrats! 
They have one of my favorite Free Dances this season, so I`m very happy that they have qualified.
Beside them, Skoptsova/Aleshin and Polishchuk/Vakhnov are probably going to qualify. Then we have an interesting battle between the two Gorshkov teams Konkina/Yakushev and Ushakova/Nekrasov for the last spot. U/N need a silver medal and a total score of 140,64 to get the last spot, unless Khudaiberdieva/Nazarov or the Greens post a huge score in Poland next week.
I hope that U/N will get the last spot, they are so freaking talented
Although, K/Y are also lovely. Russian Junior Nats are going to be heartbreaking, so many talented teams and only 3 spots available. :sad21:

I think in the case of Sara and Kirill the reason was definitely the money. In the case of W/P it was they had not many options, all the other top three coaches have many teams and their direct competence. And Morozov worked many years in USA, he is practically an american coach, why he came back to Russia?
In the unlikely event b/s won an Olympics bronze it's hardly an accomplishment in the history of Russian ice dance with its many golds and many silvers. It should tell them if they had moved to zueva or spiliband or dubreil or krylova in 2014 they may have won gold and upheld the tradition of Russian ice dance.
Success is judged by world medals and other medals not isu rankings. B/s have no world or gpf medals and not even euro title.
I doubt that B/S will win an Olympic bronze... BUT they won the European title in 2013 and bronze at World's the same year and collected some other medals at Europeans. They were not completely without success at Grand Prix - nothing special, not living up to the reputation of their predecessors in Russia, but still ... no reason to maintain they have been without ANY important medals ...

Have the Olympics ended already? Damn, I missed them completely :shame:
And they're still Olympic Champions in the team event. People may like it or not, but team events, relays and other group competitions exist.

Do you think B/S have higher chance to get a bronze at Olympics than all 3 American team? They can if the Americans make mistakes but the chance is quite low. Note that I am not the fan of the Americans but the judges seem to prefer them. Their 3rd team cringe me a lot.

I think they have about equal chances with the Shibs and Chock/Bates. And Hubbel/Donohue never ever scored higher PCS than Bobrova/Soloviev. And yes, I believe that they can win bronze no matter if other teams make mistakes or not. Time will tell, I guess. They need to do their job and skate clean, that's all I ask from them, judges lately appreciate them when they're clean.

Yes. I can’t stand them at all.
At worlds 2017 they were a bit too far behind ... otherwise they would have been lucky, all teams in front of them allowing them to nearly gain that medal. H/D would have been out of reach, but are prone to errors. Could be that the SD will make the difference - the rendition of B/S isn't my cup of tea at all, while I was surprised, in a positive way, by S/K. The FD of B/S didn't turn out as interesting as one should expect with this coreographer (perhaps they sould have opted for Yuri Smekalov, responsible for this wonderful program of Stolbova/Klimov, sadly never skated to its full potential, but it was more of dancing together than some ice dance programs), but it's a good FD for them, athough not one to make up for a greater margin after the OD, I presume.
The SD of H/D isn't convincing for me (at the moment, impression may change during the season)- they're not P/C who can afford to set their own pace and accents in relation to a given theme not fitting their own unique style very well (and talking about that issue in an interview)
I'm afraid there will be not such a great amount of great SD's ... so - perhaps Zhulin is right that it's mostly a matter of levels in that portion of competition (why B/S have issues with THAT and why certain couples shine with great coreography nevertheless .... is a secret yet to be solved :whack: - Eteri Tutberidze is perfect in solving such "secrets" of IJS ... in Russia for LADIES ONLY).
Besides there was no controversary surrounding the team event. I would like to watch B/S winning that bronze medal btw, as they are hard working athletes who had to overcome a lot of difficulties - PERHAPS, without this meldonium case, they could have won a second world bronze with Anna Karenina, they had some momentum after Euros that year.
I fully agree with snow63 - relay medals are not generally considered to be inferior, on the contrary; Ole Einar Bjoerndalen is Olympic champion 8 times, among that 8 medals is a new discipline, the mixed relay, there doesn't seem to be any significant talking about that, let alone his relay titles - same with Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt. It's an Olympic event, an OGM is won.
The problem with that team event is perhaps, that it is completely new and doesn't have the tradition, that OGM is something achieved only by a very small number of skaters before, that it can be that a skater far away from medals in the traditional four disciplines becomes Olympic champion without having had success at worlds, Euros, 4CC or the Grand Prix (that doesn't apply to B/S, obviously). BUT he/she/the couple/pair is the best available in the given discipline in his/her/their country, so I don't see any probleme there).

Maybe the issue with the team competition is, that except for the Olympics, the team event is held separately from the World Championships and therefore automatically gets less attention. Other sports like swimming or biathlon have integrated the team competitions in their World Championships and I`m not 100% sure on this, but at least in swimming there are also relay competitions at Europeans. I don`t know how realistic this is, but maybe integrating the team competition into the regular World Championships would be a good idea. I actually enjoyed the team competition in Sochi a lot and WTT is always a lot of fun to watch, although I prefer the format of the Olympics.
Re B/S chances to win an Olympic medal, well I had doubts before the season started, not because of their ability, but more because I didn`t trust Zhulin to give them programs that would do the job. I think their FD is a great vehicle for them, while the Short Dance still needs work, but honestly until now I haven`t seen a Short Dance yet that really wowed me. It`s really, really difficult with the Latin theme to create cohesive programs. IMO, last year`s rhythm or even next year`s Tango would have been a better choice for the Olympics.
