2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I wouldn't call Lenka a diminutive, it is in fact somewhat pejorative. Lenochka, Lenok - these can qualify as diminutives. But really the girls will be called Alena (it is pronounced Alyona) and Lena, respectively. Alyona won't be called Lena as it is reserved for Elena.

I love Russian diminutives, almost all first names have them... although I never understood why Sonya stands for Sofya.

There is also Sofa for Sofya (not sofa, that's a couch), but it's more associated with Sofya as a Jewish name for some reason. Tonya for Antonina and Anya for Anna seem obvious, but Tanya for Tatiana less so. Another interesting question is how you get Masha from Maria, Misha from Mikhail, Sasha from Aleksandr(a), Glasha from Glafira, Pasha from Pavel etc. etc. Where do all of the "sh"s come from? And why do some names have no accepted diminutives in spite of being long, like Nikita? Even Russians don't know :scratch3:

And, as i understand, the result is determined by total team score. Shoma to Havi score difference can have bigger impact than russian ladies to japanese.

I didn't know about that... So, Stasya will compete there instead of JGP? Who will participate there?

Unfortunately, the full list of participants is still unknown.
Not the best work of the organizers.
The table will be here (link) but so far it's link-404 (empty) .

Marin Honda can't be "easily" beat, unless she's a fever or broken boot. :angry1:

[Sorry for emoji, I love his passion.]

Well, considering she started the season 20 points behind Zagitova... If Alina skates clean, silver is hers there.

Cmon, the air in Salt Lake City was so thin Marin almost fainted during free skate, while the one in Lombardia must have been full of opioid fumes in judging panel area. ;)

at japanese show both marin and mai, if clean, can be close in scores to alina. but it's not gonna be like that in a real international competitions:roll5:

seems like the air is thin everytime, when marin skates. all of a sudden she had only one clean skate in her life, at 2017 junior worlds, and ironically she was easily beaten there by alina

Best thing is, Japan Open IS international competition. :taunt:

I hope people bombing Marin with flowers, won't forget to 'accidentally' throw some bouquets on judges tables, to let them know who's fans favourite. :points:

On the contrary!

no, it's not. they have international athletets in there, but it's no more an international competition, than SPB Cup with carolina kostner

If he is reading this forum, I want to say he is very good-looking
I've been thinking he sits next to all the baby wonders at K&C just for the picture.

Is Daniil G. reading this forum??
Too much of a coincidence... first we discussed about Polina and he posted a story with her and now after we talked about Anna, picture with her on his Instagram:confused:

You mean he's sitting there for the pics? Not for this is his job?
I'vé started lately to like him. He seems good to the kids and I think he can be the person in Eteri camp to try to keep, as much as possible, each skaters' personality
