Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Translation of the original phrase into English by ImTranslator:"Although the success rate might be 30%" What I get from that: Max just guesses that the success rate could be 30 % not: "is 30 %"
Could some native speaker please clear that for me ? Thanks a lot in advance !

A direct translation from Italian to English by an Italian native translated this as: 'Careful: Yuzuru, in training, can easily land 5 different quadruples. The quadruple he didn't develop is the 4 Flip. He lands the Axel. Maybe with 30% of success rate, but he lands it. 4Axel, I don't know if the concept is clear.'

So we shouldn't take that 30% so seriously. The point is - the success rate isn't high and it's nowhere near popping up in competitions, but he can do it. Which is scary enough on it's own, honestly!

Call me crazy, but if Yuzu thought he needed the 4A to win Olys, I believe he would do it. At least, that's the possibility the mystery and rumors present: that no matter what anyone else does, he could still bring out a secret weapon that would top them.

Exactly !

Thanks, I just wanted to be shure that this English translation was correct, so success rate is around 30 % and even that is a reason to be in awe, I just wonder, if he does this 4 A without harness.
I also ask myself what the other skaters do when Hanyu tries 4A in training...you couldn't keep your eyes from him. Maybe this and for shure 4L was a reason for Javier to do split training (= training in another rink apart from Hanyu), because he couldnt concentrate.

As Kozuka, Sano-san also thought Yuzuru tried 4Lz in LP at ACI

By the way, why always no Boyang in the discussion? :angry2:

Yeah, Boyang deserves respect!
Maybe, in Yuzu's mind, he was so conflicted about doing a triple when he REALLY wanted to do a quad, the feeling transfers to viewers.

I don't think so to be honest  Skaters are all different, and some of the younger ones (Nathan & Shoma) include new jumps very fast after getting them in practice, but Yuzu has never done that. He's practiced all of his quads for years before he seemed to even consider them for competition - and winning aside, I'm sure Yuzu wants to give 2 great skates at the Olympics more than anything else, given how he's still regretful over his 2014 Oly LP. Just throwing in a new behemoth of an element like a 4A makes it so much more risky, and so less likely he'll deliver a clean skate. After he came 5th in the SP in Helsinki this year I speculated with friends about the possibility of a YOLO 4Lz to give himself more chance to move up to gold in the LP - but he didn't. He decided to do what he practiced, planed for and could deliver best as a whole (no messing around with choreo, no missing transitions... - a 4A would lead to these problems too).
And to be honest, I don't think he'll need it? The only skater with a higher BV then him is Nathan, and we will still need to see how he handles his very ambitious layout and how his GOE/PCS develop (I really like his new programs and I think he improved from last season - but he's not on Yuzu's level overall (which would be a ridiculous ask anyway, given how young Nathan is)). Yuzu might need a SP 4Lz too I think, but we know from Max that he's practicing that. So he's prepared on that front.

Also, not seeing the 4A this season has a big fat plus. He will have to stay after this season to get it :luv17:

PS: Count me in in the respect-for-Boyangman club!:dev2: He's a 2 time WC medalist, you'd think that would give people a hint to not underestimate him... :dbana:

Exactly! It's also admirable that Yuzuru does not forget the respect for Boyang, Kozuka praised Boyang in the recent article, too. It's the media puzzled me, not the skaters :slink:

Brian Orser Interview Post-ACI (2017.10.9 AERA Exclusive)

"I always talk about how “the first pancake is not well done.” The right heat, the cooking time, how to coordinate, et cetera––the first competition is for us to learn all these things, to see the good side and the bad side. So it’s rather that we’ve reaped huge rewards." Orser and his baking theories are priceless

" In Yuzuru’s case, it’s necessary for him to be always challenging new things to maintain his interest. New jumps, new ways to jump, difficult positions in the air and so forth become his motivation. This time, we brought down the difficulty in jumps and he wasn’t able to get fired up. So it became a chance to study Yuzuru’s character once again."

really a smart psychological evaluation , I'm happy !

It seems to me it's the first season Borser doesn't complain worldwide about Yuzu's FS layout, what happened ?
